A Christmas Story: How one person, one new neighbor can make a difference on a street
Last January new neighbors moved in across the street from me. They had a fine Italian name just like mine, so I was sure they would be good neighbors. I was told that they were Master Chefs, and this was also excellent news just in case I needed any help with getting something together in my kitchen or wanted to verify any Italian recipes I had. I live and work in a really small city--especially considering that the town is located in Orange County in Southern California. There are approximately 1900 lots (most of them 1/2 acre) and just over 6,000 people in the idyllic city of Villa Park, CA, commonly referred to as Orange County's Hidden Jewel. Villa Park was incorporated in 1962, and at least for the last 30 years or more, Santa comes to spread good cheer to the OC's smallest city. This week's meeting began with an invocation by Bill Baker, who brought us to attention using the Boy Scout symbol of 2 fingers held high. Jay Applebaum led the Pledge of Allegiance and Bryan Nash led us through the Rotary Four Way Test. With our Fall Fundraiser being two weeks away we sang Roll Out The Barrel just to get in the proper mood.

In Supervisor Bill Campbell's report he says that Villa Park will get some street improvements!
Lemon Street Recreation Trail and Bike Trail Improvements Project Update- The City of Villa Park was awarded $182,700 in Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds from OCTA for the improvement of the Lemon Street Recreation and Bike Trail. The funds were to be expended by June 30th of this year. The City was not able to expend the funds by that date due to delays in securing the California Department of Transportation's approval of the project. Sales in Villa Park are UP. More sales already in 2009 than in all of 2008!
As of October 2, 2009, there have been a total of 50 properties that are under contract or have sold in Villa Park in 2009-already 2 more than all of last year.
Of the 50 properties, 36 have already closed. For these 36 properties, the Average sales price is ($1,013,483/3583 sq. ft.) $282.86 per sq. ft.

On Saturday, May 10th, the Villa Park Instrumental Music Program held its 6th annual car and bike show. Admission is free to lookers and it's a wonderful way to see some fabulous cars, wild bikes, and eat breakfast or lunch at the event. This year there were 130 entrants who paid of fee of between $30. and $35.00 to exhibit and show their cars or bikes. When is an auction not an auction?
Auction: The definition of an Auction from the American Heritage Dictionary is: A public sale in which property or items of merchandise are sold to the highest bidder. Recently all of us in California have been seeing notices of Auction of Property-sometimes just a few houses or parcels of land and sometimes thousands of houses. Because of the economic climate of our times, most of us when we read, hear, go to an auction, think we are going to get a "deal", a "bargain" or something under market value.
