While I feel that the tax credit did some good for the slumping Real estate market, I also feel it may have done more damage then good. Think about it, we ended up in this mess because of government intervention. The call for 57% national homeownership ended up loosening the lending guidelines to allow more buyers that were probably 3-5 years away from being ready to purchase to buy a home with stated income, 100% 80/20 loans, and many more sub-prime options.
