Mortgage Company Employees Give A MORTGAGE FREE Home to a Wounded Warrior! - 08/31/12 02:09 PM
I am in the mortgage business which means that me and my team help individuals obtain financing to purchase a home. The majority of our clients are military clients and our mission statement is to "....make a difference in the lives of the people who are making a difference". This past week-end, we had the opportunity to get boots on the ground to put that mission statement into practice and to truly make a difference in the life of one wounded warrior. But this time, NOT with mortgage financing! I had the honor of participating in an event where the employees

Fridays With The Farmer's Wife: Do What You Love and Love What You Do - 08/31/12 07:54 AM
In the book, "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek, the author's goal is simple: “To help build a world in which the vast majority of people go home everyday feeling fulfilled by their work”. Imagine this for a moment: You love what you do every day. Harvey McKay says, "Find something you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life". Because your work is your calling - it is what you were created to do. You would do the work you do for free if you had to because you love it that much.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Life: It Takes a Warrior Mindset - 08/22/12 04:13 PM
Change your Mind, Change Your Life: It Takes a Warrior Mindset Maybe you are like me and there has been a point in your life when you became painfully aware of the need for change. It might have been when the doctor advised you that if you didn’t lose weight, eat healthier and/or begin an exercise program, your chances of living a long and healthy life would be slim to none. Or maybe it was when you received a call from the bank that your loan was denied, you discover your credit score had plummeted

The Power of a Mentor - Pass it On - 08/21/12 12:11 PM
Men·tor 1.a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. 2.an influential senior sponsor or supporter. In my life, I have been blessed with dozens of mentors. I have had spiritual mentors and business mentors. Some have mentored me through one-on-one teaching or coaching. Others I never met personally but they mentored me through the words they penned in the hundreds of books I have read. One of my passions is teaching what others have taught me. In fact, it seems to me that the lessons would be wasted if I didn't pass them on to someone else. When

Fridays With The Farmer's Wife: Making Hay While The Sun is Shining - 08/17/12 09:21 AM
Most people have heard the old saying that you have to "... make hay while the sun is shining...". And the truth is, you do. Where does this saying come from? Hay can only be cut and rolled into bales when it is dry. If the hay is wet, it can rot and possibly spontaneously combust. A dry sunny day is perfect for haying. It means you should do something while you have the opportunity, because later on, the opportunity may no longer be there for you. Do the job before things change and make

Providing Consistent Client Care with a 67 Point Checklist - 08/13/12 08:31 PM
For several years, my team has adherred to a 67 point checklist for the care of our clients. We began developing this list as a way to establish consistency throughout all six of my branch locations in central and North Louisiana, as well as a branch in Florida. The checklist detailed every action to be taken by every member of the team from the moment the client calls or walks into our office through closing of the loan, and followed by a client for life marketing program. This checklist took me over six months to develop and it still remains

"Try Not! Do. Or Do Not. There is No Try." Going for the Gold with a Social Media Coach - 08/12/12 08:23 PM
"Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try." If you set goals for 2012, you might be examining those goals right now and thinking that they will be impossible at this point in the year to achieve. The huge goal I set for 2012 was to build a social media platform. As the year progressed, I realized I was no farther along than when I set the goal on January 1. I needed HELP - a coach or mentor - an expert. I was determined that I would do more than just "try" to

U.S. Army World Class Athletes Participate in 2012 London Olympics - 08/12/12 04:59 PM
When a world class athlete joins the United States Army, their dreams of becoming an Olympian do not have to die with their enlistment. They are encouraged to compete and are even provided the opportunity to continue in the highest levels of competition through the U.S. Army World-Class Athlete Program and the Army Marksmanship Unit. This year, the Army sent eleven soldiers to compete in the 2012 Olympics in London: The Army's World Class Athlete Program has seven training sites scattered across the nation, including Fort Carson. The headquarters are at Fort Carson partly because of its

Friday With The Farmer's Wife: A Fishing Pond and a Social Media Platform - Both Need Experts to Build - 08/10/12 11:23 AM
The Farmer wanted to build a bigger pond on the property where we live. The pond in existence was approximately one-half acre and needed some major renovation. Instead of just repairing the current pond, he decided to start completely over and build something much bigger and much better. He has a vision of a huge three acre pond stocked with fish with a long pier extending into the water for the grandchildren to fish from. This would mean that the current pond be drained and dredged before construction of the new pond was started. The Farmer never considered doing the work

Perfecting Your Kick: Lessons from an Olympic Champion - 08/02/12 02:29 PM
Michael Phelps is now the most decorated Olympian of all time by winning his 19th Olympic medal. For many years, his name has been highly recognizable by all Americans and he has inspired and captivated us with his performances in the water. However, there was a little publicized incident a few years ago which could have forever altered Michael Phelps' place in Olympic history. In October of 2007, Phelps broke his wrist and for several weeks he could only use a kickboard to train for the 2008 Olympics. Because of this injury to his wrist, he could
