You Would Think Sales People Would Learn! - 11/20/10 08:56 PM
This past week I was in Raleigh for a few days helping my sons get ready for Cameron Village's Holiday Kick Off Thursday night. The event complete with Santa Claus (which is too early for my tastes) was held as a nighttime activity and the entire complex was jam packed! Everyone worked late to be sure Tin Roof Teas was clean and ready to open Friday morning. My oldest son put me to work labeling inventory while his dad assembled one of the cooling cases for their new shipment of exotic truffles. I decided to stroll down to one of the

Hope Taylor & Company...Local Business Needs Your Support - 11/16/10 11:28 PM
One of goals in the activerain community is to focus on Localisms! Please, Please this holiday season support your local shops. I had a few minutes today on the way back from the bank and I decided to drop in one of my very favorite boutiques Hope Taylor & Company in Ocean Drive. Linda started this business several years ago and every year it has grown in popularity. One factor that made it so successful was the uniqueness of her inventory. She always carried a great selection of Brighton and Vera Bradley which I bought for the young women in our family as

TeaGschwendner in Raleigh Becomes The New Tin Roof Teas! - 11/14/10 09:35 PM
Same staff...same location...same TeaGschwendner teas plus a variety of new high quality tea companies, expanded accessory lines, and gourmet chocolates have been added as well as other tea related items. Tin Roof Teas is located in Cameron Village, one of the oldest shopping centers in North Carolina, just up from Bailey's Fine Jewelry store. Where else can one buy a nice gift for less than $10 that not only tastes good but is good for the recipient? Choose from teas like Green Coconut, Black Mango, Earl Grey Cream, or Marzipan. This is the largest tea shop in the Carolinas with over 250 teas in

I Won! I Won! I Won!!!! - 11/13/10 01:48 PM
Why all the excitement? First, let me say, I have won something maybe 5 times in my lifetime and they were piddly (you have to be Southern) but today, I was listening to the Kim Komando radio show. I try to listen every Saturday because you can pick up some really good technology tips. I have been looking for an easy to build personal website so I decided to call in and ask her for a recommendation. As an accepted caller, she gave me a year's subscription to Lynda.com which is a site full of tutorial for every conceivable electronic program

Holy Moly!!! Could the Recession Be over in Myrtle Beach???? - 11/12/10 10:58 PM
Don't know about the housing but...today, I was tired of working so I thought I would take the afternoon off to go shopping in Myrtle Beach, SC. After all, it was Friday and except for golfers' families, I figured I would have Tanger Outlet to myself...I had been saving some coupons. I used the 31 loop so I could access 22 and drop straight down into the shopping center. Imagine my shock, when I crested the bridge and saw all that traffic!!!! For Pete's sake, doesn't anyone work anymore. I rode around the outlet a few times before spotting a parking

Am I the Only One Who Hates Granite Countertops? - 11/11/10 11:27 PM
Now, I know granite is very popular and status homes have to have granite for resale; however, I do not like kitchens with granite countertops. I like other solid surface countertops, just not granite. A few years ago, I rented a home with black granite countertops while my home was being remodeled. After every activity at the sink, I was constantly drying and polishing. Water around the faucets would cause a haze that was very unsightly. Splatters from the stove required cleaning and polishing, again. Wipe off the counters at night, get up the next morning...you could see smudges you hadn't

Sunset Beach Bridge Is Finally Open!!! - 11/11/10 11:09 PM
I was assigned floor duty this afternoon, and I had to sit downstairs in the main entry because our administrative assistant left early. Starting around 2:30 calls started coming in from other agents and clients excitedly telling us that the bridge was finally open. A few weeks, a grand opening was held and later locals and visitors were allowed to walk over the bridge but drivers had to wait for a paint contractor to paint the lanes. It was scheduled for next week but obviously, the contractor completed the task early...no more long, hot summer waits for the bridge to open. Those

Sellers Are as Frustrated with Agents as They Are with Buyers! - 11/10/10 10:22 PM
Today, I received a very angry email from a client. She was not angry with me but she was furious with the five agents she contacted about listing her property. For personal reasons, I am not renewing her listing. I have had the properties listed for quite awhile and just before it expired, I explained my situation to her...no problem. I suggested a few agents; she called them plus a few others. Two agents never called her back; one told her she had to drop the price to match the other old houses in the community, and one gave her a
