active rain: Active Rain or Active Listings? - 05/17/12 11:16 AM
Just sitting here in this continuing ed...I'm in the back row, trying to get caught up on life...and trying to get caught up on Active Rain. My internet has major issues, but should be back within the next week at home. But in affect, it's shut me down for 4 weeks now.
While scrolling the blog roll, I've done this 4 times so far....every post is a listing. Is this all about listings? Or is there a pertinent time for people to send their listings out to cyberspace. I have never seen so many listings EVER, in my 4+ years here … (4 comments)

Active Rain, Active Rain, Active Rain..... For the longest time I was stuck in the 80's...thinking that I would never get to 90, much less 100. But here it is, today, May, 16th, 2012 and I just received my 106th referral directly from the Rain. What makes this one so speical is the woman who called me.

So...just recently, I wrote a post about being shut down about 3 weeks ago from a lightning strike. I bitched.... I whined.... I moaned, but finally Comcast came out and got me restored.....and my internet back up. Or so I thought.
Things don't go perfect for us all when it comes to the internet. My router and modem didn't talk and communicate with each other. I called my I.T. guy. I called other folks...and blah, blah, blah....nothing
Long story short....

I have been waiting for what seems like forever to hit that stupid 100 referral mark off of Active Rain. I mean...
I'VE WAITED, but TODAY I GOT MY 101rst REFERRAL!!!! Here's the deal...I was just writing this post over the weekend, when today, I received a phone call from a borrower who called my office and called me asking about buying a home. OK....freakin me out a bit. Just logged on to Active Rain and it popped up almost as fast as a Google Search. I had just posted my comment on Missy's featured post (does she even need a last name?). As soon as I hit click I was back at the top of the page. I had to scroll down to the bottom to see if it was another blasted error or what.

Not that I care....I'm OK with the new Active Rain.....SO FAR!!!!
I've seen so many comments discussing Active Rain and it's new look and new features. I like some of it, and some of it I do not like. Some of it, I'll just have to figure out. The only thing that I don't really like is having my name roll of the page and some other page things. The rest of the things I'll discover or get used to. So today I see a good post by some realtor east of me. I click on his link and open the blog post. Good catchy title. It appears that it may even be a great blog post. I click on the post and WALLLLAAAA....There it is!
I just decide to leave his post for good. I make note of his name because it's the third time I've been hijacked by him. You see, on his header bar, he intentionally puts the hyperlinks as the exact same color as his banner or bar. That means once I'm on his page,

While doing my business plan, I have looked again at where my income needs to come in 2012. I have made a determination that my business is at the precipice for my income to increase by approximately 74% this year. Almost doubling. Since joining Active Rain, I'm up to 96 referrals off of the Rain!!!!
Active Rain Will Be a Big Part of My Income
However, too often I see great bloggers in Active Rain who have zero success in the real world.

So lately I've been thinking....do you need a photo or a picture in your post to get a feature here in Active Rain? So, as an experiment, over the last few months I've been doing quite a few posts both ways. I've been trying to put my best posts together with and without pictures, cartoons and photos. To that end, I did receive one feature with no pictures, but I did receive 4 features with pictures.
My conclusion? I think it's quality that matters. However, if you really want to capture the eye of the reader and the viewer, I'm thinking … (79 comments)

I'm amazed that we're now well over 210,000 members...or "so called members." Think about it....110,000, represents a pretty big sized city! It's something to be proud of. But I don't want to be like New York, L.A. or Chicago where there are millions of people, but no comraderie. No, I'd rather remain like a Green Bay, where the entire town comes out to see and cheer on the Green Bay Packers.

Blogs and Posts and Comments. They all go hand in hand. What I find to be a great tool for AR users are comments. I've left just under 15000 comments since joining AR. I've received a myriad of comments, well over 16,000 since joining as well. So what makes comments so valuable? Comments are more valuable to active members of active rain for a variety of reasons;
Commenting on other people's posts.
Lots of benefits here folks.

OK....it's official. As of this blog post, I have finally reached 700,000 points. No small feat for me. If I was in love with numbers, I would have quit blogging at 100,000 points. But the fact is that Active Rain has done a lot for me. I have reached this milestone with a lot of other add - ons. Specifically, I have garnered 92 referrals from my 700,000 points. So, today I just got my
Ninety Second Referral!!!! Yes!!!! 92! From my time in Active Rain! I started about three and one half years ago. In that Three and one half years, it averages out to about 25 referrals a year. And to think that I didn't even have just one referral for my first six months. And...I've only had a few referrals over the last six months. I can track why. I haven't been putting focused content on Active Rain as well. As soon as I put focused content, Active Rain works like no other for you!

WHOOSH! ZIP! ZOOM!!!! More and more I visit the blog scroll and see two, three or four blogs that I want to read. By the time that I comment and come back, the entire scroll is gone and those new posts that I wanted to read are replaced by a listing.

It's official. I am 10 referrals shy of 100....all from Active Rain. The first referral was a Bank of America nightmare asking for me to help him with a modification. I can't do anything for him as a lender, but I am going to volunteer my time as an attorney to help him fight the 11.25% interest rate that he has through Bank of America. What amazed me (and again I'm not criticizing people) is that a lot of people think that I was criticizing them, and or they were astounded that I even asked the question.
