illinois: Illinois & Rahm as a 96 Year Old Illinois Company Announces it's Move to Indiana - 08/23/11 10:26 AM
So I'm sitting here a bit bummed out watching the news as Modern Drop Forge is announcing that it is moving to Indiana. Modern Drop Forge has been in Illinois since 1906, but it's moving to our next door neighbor. On Tuesday, the governor, Mitch Daniels, of Indiana is announcing the move. Even the liberal news says that it's the "tax and business environment" that's being blamed for the company's relocation to Indiana. I don't want to make this a which side of the aisle post, but let's be honest, in the last 8 months, Illinois has begged Motorola; Caterpillar Navistar among others

illinois: Illinois Now Has Highest Gas Prices in the Nation - 04/26/11 12:05 AM
Yippee....one more reason for me to love Illinois. I guess we now have the highest prices in the United States now. I'm really curious as to what determines what region has what gas prices? For me, it's simply amazing that we have the highest prices. Our average gas price is $4.27 PER GALLON! Politics aside, I do wonder why: 1) We aren't mining for oil within our own United States; 2) Why aren't we drilling offshore? 3) Why is Illinois higher than 49 other states? People being interviewed are saying that these prices are amazed at how much that they consciously are

illinois: 1 Week after Dodd-Frank, I'm...... - 04/09/11 04:40 PM
Today....I've worked, worked and worked. I wanted to make sure that I got my work done as the temperature was to climb from a balmy 41 to today's temp of somewhere in the 70s with the 80s hitting us tomorrow. We did all of our outside work this morning; We did all of our homework this morning; I did office work early this afternoon, and tonight, I'll probably relax and take it easy a bit.... Just so amazing. Winter has left and Summer seems to have arrived a bit early. I hope not too early as I can't stand the hot

illinois: Illinois 7th Highest Real Estate Taxes in the Nation - 04/08/11 10:41 AM
I do like where I live. In fact, aside from local politics, I love where we live. Comcast came out today with the 10 highest states for real estate taxes. In all truth, I was suprised that we are as low as we are. I always thought we were in the top 3. Well, fortunately, I was off, but not by much. We're the 7th highest tax rate. Does that mean that our taxes are increasing or decreasing? Not really sure. I'm curious as to the tax percentage compared against the value of home. Here they compare it against the income.

illinois: ILLINOIS PLAYS RUSSIAN ROULETTE AGAIN - 2 MORE TAXES THIS WEEK! - 03/11/11 10:02 AM
FIRST!!!!! Wednesday, Governor Quinn said that he wants to tax those who are retired, provided they are recieving $100,000 or more in income during retirement. So what's the beef? No other state is hitting the elderly. Cook County Illinois has the highest retail sales tax in the United States, now this! SECONDLY!!!! QUINN is introducing a bill to tax certain online purchases (that means a lot) for companies doing business in Illinois. During the interview with Chicago businesses, some with an online presence will are saying that they are prepared to move to Indiana even though they don't want to. Last

illinois: Illinois & Quinn Make it official! More Taxes for everyone! - 01/14/11 09:24 AM
On January 13th, Governor Quinn signed a bill to increase taxes starting 2011. The income tax rates in Illinois will increase temporarily to 5% for individuals and to 7% for corporations through 2014. Really though is there ever a tax increase that is temporary. It's just Quinn's way to try to make you feel good! The tax rates decrease for tax years 2015-2024, and again beginning in 2025. Corporations also are subject to the 2.5% personal property replacement tax, so the overall corporate tax rate would rise to 9.5%. Additionally, for corporate income tax purposes, the net loss carryover deduction will

illinois: Proposed Illinois Legislation Hurts Illinois Greatly - 01/11/11 11:08 AM
The legislation currently being considered by the democrats to increase personal taxes by 75% and doubling corporate rates is without thought. As sure as we are suffering, this will kill the little bit of light that once led one of the strongest economies in the midwest. Please be vocal and persistent in objecting to this consideration that needs to be placed immediately on the growing dung heap of Illinois legislative stupid ideas. I, nor my friends, or neighbors (that I have spoken with) have any interest in continuing to subsidize the public employee pensions that have grown unsustainable no matter what

illinois: New Extreme Speeding Law for 2011 could mean 6-12 months of Jail Time in Illinois! - 01/04/11 11:17 AM
Starting Saturday, if you're caught speeding 30 miles over the limit you could spend up to six months behind bars and pay a $1500 dollar fine!!!! per WIFR. Check out the full article at: http://www.wifr.com/home/headlines/Extreme_Speeding_Penalties_to_Come_in_2011_112682914.html. The new law makes fines of $1,500+ dollars, as well as jail time from anywhere between 6 to 12 months for offenders. It makes me nervous. I'm not the leadfoot that I used to be, but still, sometimes you just space out. This law certainly gets your attention. We all need to be aware of this going into 2011....or you may get your room and board

illinois: Illinois Secretary of State to Create Emergency Contact Database - 10/14/09 09:48 PM
With all the crap going on in politics, it's actually refreshing to see that they are doing something nice and well for the taxpayer. They've created the Emergency Contact Database. Just so cool. Check out http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/drivers/ecd/home.html. Join The Emergency Contact Database This database allows Illinois instruction permit, driver's license and identification card holders to enter their emergency contact information into a voluntary, secure database. Starting in August 2009, in the event of a motor vehicle crash or other emergency situation where a person is unable to communicate directly, law enforcement may access this database to help them reach the person's designated

illinois: So I contact Obama's Replacement, Roland Burris - 05/05/09 08:22 AM
So, being the politically active person that I am, I decide to let my representatives and Senators know my opinions on certain topics that have serious consequences to everyone within the state of Illinois. Some topics, obviously, will affect not only me and my family but our children and the generations to come. Sooooooooooooooooooo......I've written all of our state senators and my local representatives. Each has received a number of personal comments back to me agreeing or disagreeing with what I've written to them. I'm sure some comments are actually done by the reps and some by staffers. I have had some

illinois: Crime in Illinois - The Cook County Predatory Lending Database - 02/26/09 09:56 PM
The National Joke is the politics in Illinois. First, you have George Ryan spending time in the big house for crimes against the tax payer. Then Obama gets elected leaving Chicago almost bankrupt and Illinois on the way to a record $11 Billion Dollar deficit. Rod Blagoevich-after the impeachment (AN IMPEACHMENT-WITHOUT A TRIAL (ANOTHER MAJOR JOKE)). Well Rod has been the hit of the national speaking circuit since being freed from "serving our state, while his predecessor is serving time in minimum security learning macrame in an orange jump suit. THAT BRINGS US TO NOW: Roland Burris- Illinois' new senator that

illinois: Blagojevich is Gone As Illinois Governor - 01/30/09 09:30 AM
It's not like it wasn't expected. The man who governed Illinois is now a civilian for the first time in 6 years. Knowing my conservative view, I'm proud to say that I never voted for him in any election. I'm sorry that it hs come to this, but his time is up. I have mixed feelings on this even though I never liked him even oine bit. What really rags me about this is a few things.... I never liked Rod. I felt that he was a snake. I hate to admit that I judged someone on his looks and speaking

illinois: Wordless Wednesday - Illinois Government Humor - 01/14/09 08:05 AM
Illinois has quickly become the prime target of Leno and Letterman....not to mention every other comedian and political talk show host. The Republican, George Ryan, went to the pen not too long ago. Blagojevich seems to be next on the Feds radar. Obama let and is now running our country. Hopefully he won't bring any of these fellas cronies with him. We'll see!

illinois: Microburst Rips through Home and Saint Charles....PRICELESS!!!!! - 08/06/08 12:00 PM
Wow....wanted to write a great post on the ressurection of Brett Favre last night. However, we had a storm that came through our town. I grew up in Saint Charles and never heard or have seen what I saw last night. It started with my brother and sister and our spouses and my father taking my mom out to celebrate for her 70th birthday. We got to dinner and the storm rolled in. The place that we ate at made us leave the restaurant and move to a place with no windows as the epicenter of the storm rolled over. After

illinois: Want to Score Points on Active Rain - - - Follow the Rules - 03/20/08 10:35 PM
I love writing. I recieved a degree in English and Literature and Communications when I was in College. This translates to great things in AR as well. I get to serve my writing fetish by trying to post something of value. Whether it valuable to me or others is for the reader to decide. There are a lot of reasons why people blog on AR. 1) Competition 2) Fun - feeding the soul 3) Get to meet a lot of great people 4) Get lots of great exposure 5) Develop new business Of course I do this for all of the reasons,

illinois: What's wrong with being #3 or do I hire a hit man? - 03/11/08 08:50 AM
AR people say that they belong for the fun. That it's not about the points. It's not about the rankings. I say that's a bunch of BS. It's about relationships, fun, the love of writing, the competition and the points. I think that it's all of it. I was a literature and communications major in college and love writing. I love sports...therefore, I love comepetition. I love it all. I joined AR last May and wanted to be #1 in my city, then my county. That was easy. It'd be harder now b/c the membership has skyrocketed so. But I did
