There's a client out there waiting to buck the system. Wants money, but doesn't want to or have the capability to play by the rules.
I was notified by a builder yesterday that there's someone out there (they even gave me the name of the person) who is into scamming mortgage companies through fraud. The person gives false information. They give a legitimate social security number, but they give fraudulent documents, including W-2's and paystubs and bank statements. We'll pull the credit, run it through and automated underwriting system (AUS) and approve the loan. We'll go to closing and get the … (14 comments)

The economy is hurting. People are hurting. Our industry has taken a beating. Most of the rif raf have left our industry. In Wisconsin, the number of licensed mortgage originators (excluding those federally chartered) has plummetted from over 16,000 to just about 600 in less than a year. People who don't belong in the business have left....or so it seems.
I hate hearing that lenders are liars, buyers are liars and realtors....well, they're one step above a used care salesman.

I am excited to report that on August 16, 2008 the 3 Denver Metro Area branches of CTX mortgage along with 100% of their originators will join forces with us here at CCMC. Their offices are located in Lakewood, downtown Denver, and in Greenwood Village! Our president has met personally with all of the employees from these branches and I have to say I'm most impressed with the quality of the people that continue to come on board at CCMC. - they will certainly represent Cherry Creek very well in our marketplace here in Denver. This is huge for us.

Today, at our loan officer meeting, we had a great visit from Megan Burns. She is a principal and CEO of Offer Angels. She is on AR. I never knew her, spoke with her, or met her until she came to our office today. She has a program that is free that allows your clients to compare your mortgage loan with your competitors by comparing APPLES TO APPLES. Not apples to oranges...

This week has been brutal to the mortgage industry. Not only have we seen jumbo rates climb 1.125%, but we've seen the death of American Home Mortgaege. American Home was a great and veritable competitor. I've been one who never wishes harm to my competitors. As long as we're all playing fair and by the rules, I have no issues with a good competitor. Fraud and crooks are intolerable. However, good companies need to be here. Not only for the competition, but the who concept of iron sharpening iron.....

The subprime market continues to fall. Although there are a ton of mortgage companies that offer sub-prime and Alt-A products...they all pretty much roll up to the same 4-6 wall street firms. The problem is when Wall Street decides that it won't accept any more of these loans, then the lender who has that loan that needs to be sold has a major problem. The loan originator and the realtor have a big problem because their homebuyer has a horrendous problem.

American Home Mortgage is laying off thousands of employees according to Originator Times. Originator Times continues....
by saying....With the demise of the mortgage giant American Home Mortgage looming, the company admitted yesterday that is was unable to fund approximately $800 million in loans promised to borrowers Monday and Tuesday. Loans that were not funded included retail loans and loans by their wholesale division American Brokers Conduit.
