life: My Closing Almost Didn't Happen Because of an ANKLE MONITOR - 01/29/13 02:52 AM
I'm anxiously awaiting for my closing that occurred on Friday to fund today.  We had a client approved for the mortgage, but at closing there were issues.  But this time, it wasn't the typical closing issues, the seller forgot to tell his probation officer that he was moving.  If he left the residence he'd be arrested.  So we spent all day Friday and Monday anxiously awaiting for the funding.
It seems that the seller was arrested and can't move without getting permission.  So, by the end of the day yesterday, we believe that the seller did get the probation officer to … (61 comments)

life: Be Tolerant....to a point...then draw the line. - 09/20/12 11:35 AM
I like to think of myself as a tolerant person.  I like most people and have great friendships...even with those who aren't of the same beliefs of mine.  Even with those who  are completely opposite of me.  That kinda make life fun...but there's a degree of reespect that keeps us having fun and making things civil even in the lines of opposite views.
What really gets me is this.....
WHO IS THE REMORA IN YOUR LIFE? What's a REMORA?  A remora is a fish that attaches itself to other fish and in particular, sharks.  It leaches off the other bigger fish.  You ever … (11 comments)

life: If You Can't Make Money in this Market...... - 06/28/12 11:04 PM
Today, I'm meeting with a loan officer for a review of his production.  Not good.  He's closing 3-4 transactions per month as a full time loan officer.  In this market, if I went downtown Chicago, I could hand out flyers on any street corner and pick up 3-4 deals a day if I wanted to.
Today I laid off a processor at another branch because the branch manager isn't laser like in focus, getting a lot of deals through the door.
Both of these guys have the goods, and, when focused, are as good as anyone in the business.  It's so … (5 comments)

life: Two Days Straight - 06/21/12 01:15 AM
It's been a great time getting back into the swing of things.  Two days in a row...albeit posting very little of value here in the rain.  Im just thrilled to be back in the game and posting on two consecutive days.  My business is rocking and I'm buried.  Signing on new loan officers and signing lots of mortgages.  It's been years since we've seen this amount of production.  In any event.....I spent the last 3 days going through 1,700 e-mails after heading up to northern Canada with my two oldest kids.
More Meaningful Posts to Come...I promise! Just Landed..... … (3 comments)

life: It Really Is a Wonderful Life, Isn't it? - 12/12/10 03:30 PM
No, this isn't my backyard today. The environment in this picture is a lot warmer than my backyard right now.  Even my dog, who "lives for winter" has had enough.  I have so much to do, but I figured that I'd make tonight a night all about the family!
Even though it is to get to well below    -20F degrees Fahrenheit tonight with the windchill, my daughter and I cooked some "Juicy Lucy" burgers on the grill tonight along with some home made french fries baked with an Olive Oil brush and a salt rub.
We finished up the night with me … (7 comments)

life: Were you on Active Rain on Christmas? If so, Why? - 12/26/09 12:54 PM
Bottom line.....Awesome Christmas.  Holy Christmas.  Fun Christmas and family Christmas.  I still ended up doing Active Rain later at night.  I even posted a new post.....Christmas....Need I say more??????.  Why would I do this?  On Christmas to add fuel to the fire.
Did you post on Christmas?  Why?  Isn't that day held in esteem higher than every other day?  I sure hope it is.  I always have a personal boycott to businesses that are open on Sundays.  I think and feel that everyone should have a day off.  But here I am posting on Christmas.  Why?

I made Christ the … (19 comments)

life: Real Estate and Itunes....the Story of My Life!!!!! - 01/20/09 01:01 AM
I spent a lot of time working on a fun blog here.  It was a chore going to Youtube and getting the appropriate links, but because of the music of my soul, I just couldn't resist. So, here's the STORY OF MY LIFE  with music and real estate:
Let's Get This Party Started!  I have two jobs in Real Estate.  I'm a real estate attorney who practices in Illinois, but I spend 90+% of the time as a practitioner and originator and Vice President of Cherry Creek Mortgage.  I specialize in helping people achieve the American Dream .  It's a lot of work but I … (12 comments)

life: 2009 will be better with a Life Plan!!!! - 12/30/08 01:00 AM
Every year I vow to get better than the prior year.  There are a few reasons why I've become successful in the past few years.  The primary reason is that I always only pick a few major things that need changing so that I can really tear it up next year.  It may be weight loss, or working out or reading for personal growth or being better at being connected wtih family.....whatever, but my huge list of to dos are gone.  I have two or three critical things to help me just kick it.
Next....I re-visit my life plan.  My life … (10 comments)

life: It Hit Me Today!!!! - 12/22/08 02:30 AM
Had the most awesome weekend.  Started last week.  I had the Christmas party for the law firm that I work at.  I came prepared in a fine set of Billy Bob Teeth.  Needless to say I was the hit of the party....
You should have seen me doing shots.
Then Friday night I had off, but had to go in and work most of the day Saturday while my wife had prepared for our Christmas Party in our new home.  We had 40 people over and it was a smash.  Then, my best friend, and realtor partner, Joyce Courtney, had … (12 comments)

life: When Milk can't take you any further in your spiritual walk. - 09/21/08 04:10 PM
I've always wanted to be in a great bible study.  I remember when I first became a Christian, I read the bible say like 5 - 7 times sraight.  It was the best thing around.  I was involved in some bible studies.  Life seemed so good.  Then as I grew, I realized that so many bible studies are really geared for the beginner.
I've been invited a ton of them.  I'm excited until I find out that they're really just geared towards the beginner.  Now don't get me wrong, we need stuff to feed the beginner or newly "saved."  But as men, … (10 comments)

life: THE LEMONADE STAND - - - BE A REAL ESTATE MILLIONAIRE!!!!! - 07/18/08 05:18 AM

This past week it got to over 90 degrees in our "locale."  Not brutal, but enough that my 5 kids, all 9 and under were feeling the heat.  We live out in a country part of a subdivision.  It's nothing fancy at all, but at the end of a "dead end" cul de sac there really isn't much traffic for these kids to generate a lot of business, BUT DESPITE THE CIRCUMSTANCES, all they could think of was the fact that they were going to do their first Lemonade stand ever (this picture taken from www.thecancerblog.com/media/2006/03/alex-lemonade-stand-cancer.jpg.  Needless to say.....

life: Loyalty & Persistence - It's hard to come by anymore - 03/04/08 01:23 AM
I know that I'm an incredibly loyal person.  I have worked for the same company for over I am the VP of a national mortgage company as well.  I worked at Norwest Mortgage for 7 years until the merger with Wells Fargo.  I came here in 2000 and am now on my 8th year at Cherry Creek Mortgage.  I'm married for 10 years and have 5 kids.  Same wife too.....
Anywho....I've come to notice that be it in marriage or work that loyalty is only going as far as what's good for the moment.  My branch has incredible loyalty, but I must … (13 comments)

life: I HATE "I CAN'T"!!!! - 02/28/08 02:51 PM
Whe, wa, wa.....!  Winers, baby's, thumbsuckers and just a lot of whining.  I can't stand it...but as much as I can't stand whining and complaining....I just hate the phrase....I CAN'T!  I hate it....
This is a difficult market.  I've been a real estate attorney and a mortgage banker for 14 years.  Although I'm still a young buck, I've seen a lot in my 14 years.  We've been influenced by the markets over the 14 years, but this is the first time I ever remember being "tied to the markets".....Having said that, I am experiencing tough moments and moments of success.  But I … (19 comments)

life: Oprah ruined my life....but I got it back! - 02/11/08 10:57 AM
It all started with Oprah Winfrey.  My wife was invited to a show 3 years ago with a girlfriend.  She went to the show and had a wonderful time.  I received a call from her (my wife, not Oprah) after the show saying that she was on "Oprah's Favorites" show.  She calls me and has me drive to the studio and pick her and her girlfriend and the $5,000 worth of stuff that each of them got.  .
After she got her voice back, she showed me all the gifts that she got.  Welllllllll, there were a few boy toys as well.  Digital … (68 comments)

life: Coaching???? - 05/12/07 08:54 AM
I'm a life coach as well as a coach within the industry.  Im also the VP of Cherry Creek Mortgage and married to a wonderful wife for 10 years.  We have 4 (almost 5) kids.  We're to have our 5th in July.  Balance is so important.  Really feel that I could never be where I am today without my coach.  I think that we get "sucked in" to our daily routine.  Without an accountability partner it's so hard to stay on task.  And it's important to stay on task for the right thing as well.  For me...it's God and family first....work … (3 comments)

life: Do Realtors Like to Grow or Just like being Busy????? - 05/03/07 03:09 PM
One of the most exciting as well as disappointing things about real estate is that there are so many that just like insanity.  Remember that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
I'm a top lender in my area.  Im in the top 3 nationally within my company.  What sets me apart is that I partner...yes...partner with my realtor referral partners.  That means that I care about their life plans, their visions and their goals.  I want to partner with people who think that partnership planning is important because that allows for huge growth … (4 comments)

life: Balancing Chaos??????? - 05/02/07 04:06 AM
A great thing about our business is that you can run your life, run your business and run around.  Vacations, payroll, self-employed and visions are soooooooooooo much fun.  You really get to do all these things.  In fact, you MUST do all these things, in fact you HAVE TO do all these things.  Boy is it great.  I love this!  I'm married, we're pregnant with our 5th kid right now.  I'm the VP of Cherry Creek Mortgage.  I'm a practicing attorney.  I originate loans and I'm a branch manager.  I coach 5 originators.  Oh...I'm also the VP of a parochial school in Saint Charles.  I am … (8 comments)
