pics: Wordless Wednesdays - A Boy and the Wilderness - 06/27/12 07:28 PM
I just got back from Northern Canada with my two boys.  We did a ton of fishing.  It was my first father/son experience with the boys in Canada.
We did so much fishing....one day, my second oldest son, Jake, yelled "DAD!" and he pointed to the shoreline.
We flew it back to Red Lake and got an export permit to bring it home.  The conservation officer said that this was the result of the moose kill.  In any event...
It was one of the best father/son experiences of the Bettag's life....so far.
In any event....it was a lot of fun!

pics: Speechless Sundays - A Church in the Rockies! - 07/10/11 11:07 PM

Very soon, very soon, I will be taking the family and returning to my old stomping grounds just out of Allenspark, Colorado.  Camp Saint Malo was a great camp that I worked at during my summers in college.  It shut down because of greed and stuff, but with the right people up there, this once again has re-opened, albeit not to the extent that it is supposed to.  I will say that we do have our family scheduled for a week there, and quite frankly, we can't wait.  The heart of teh Rockies baby!  This was the church that I … (6 comments)

pics: Wordless Wednesday Part II - Tessa's 4th Birthday!!!! - 07/06/11 11:40 PM

OK....today my youngest turns 4.  Yikes!!!!!!  Blows me away.  Her favorite is Dora!  Yes, she likes Dora probably even more than me, mom and her 4 siblings.  However, since she's only 2 years away from her "golden birthday," we thought we'd splurge and bring her best friend to the party.  It's not often that Dora can make the cameo, but we pulled a few strings and got her here!  Lots of fun for all!

pics: Speechless Sundays - What More Could You Want? - 06/05/11 10:42 PM

What More Could You want is an understatement for a dad like me.  I love this sort of stuff.  As a dad, there's nothing greater than those 3 moments a day or week when your kids not only get along, but they actually like each other.  Actually, Ive written about these two before.  In our family, guys don't get along with the girls and vice versus.  Tessa and Grant are like an old married couple.  They love each other and want to hang with each other....always!  Good things for a parent!  Beats the altrernative!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - Best Friends & Goofy Friends!!!! - 06/01/11 06:23 PM

My girl?  She's the goofy one on the right....I'm amazed that she and her friend both actually think that they're funny, fun and cool.  For me????  Well....let's just say that I'm nothing more than good old dad.  Actually, Claire is lucky because she's surrounded by bookends of boys.  So when the girlfriend gets the chance to come on over, well.....she's all over that.  THUS THE GOOFINESS!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Need I Say More???? - 05/29/11 11:36 PM

OK, I really have a lot to say about this one.  It's Tessa, my youngest.  I really wanted to go on some elaborate diatribe about Tessa, but I really can't.  She'll be 4 in July.  But as she tells everyone else....right now shes "Free years old."  I don't even remember when I was "Free."  She told all of the relatives that we're going to have another baby.....I really hope so, but as my wife says....I need a willing participant....SIGH!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - Man's Best Friend??? A Man Sized Dog! - 04/20/11 04:38 PM

The weather here has been so dreary for so long it seems that summer will never come.  For me, it's all about the dog days of spring.  With the dog days of spring in mind, here's a photo of my Bernese Mountain Dog Otto.  You can even see "otto" on his name tag if you zoom up close enough.  Otto doesn't care about the weather...he only cares about affection.  WOOF!  All 135 lbs of him!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - Da Coach! - 03/30/11 11:44 PM

Was a lot of fun, going to this session with Da Coach, Mike Ditka.  Really, even as hard core Packer Backer, I had a lot of fun seeing Da Coah, talk about faith, life and even Da Bears.  Really, I was and am a hard core Packer Backer, but in reality, there was so much fun and drama and history with the 1985 Chicago Bears, taht even as a Cheesehead, it's hard to say no to someone so great!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Daddy Daughter Rock N'Roll Dance - 03/28/11 12:32 AM
Another one of my pictures from our Daddy - Daughter Rock and Roll Dance.  We had a lot of fun, Claire and I.  Of course, I got to play air guitar in front of everyone to AC/DC's Back in Black.  Let's just say that Claire was impressed wiht my moves!  It was a lot of fun. But just seeing her getting dolled up a bit makes me nervous for my future.  I want to be her dad, but I want her off the market too!  We had a blast!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Clowning Around in the Kindergarten Play - 03/20/11 11:56 AM

OK....another Speechless Sunday photo.  My guy is on the right.  Grant!  His buddy is on the left.  They had to play in a kindergarten circus  for the annual circus parade.  Some were elephants.  One was the Master of Ceremonies or Ring Leader.  Monkees abounded, but I think my kid hit the jackpot when he got labeled the clown.  Wonder if it's a sign of things to come!

pics: Wordless Wednesday - Packer Party in Bear Country! - 01/26/11 10:24 AM

OK, it's my clan, plus a couple of my great neighbor's kids.  The sad thing is that their parents are Bear's Fans, but we still got them to join the real crew.  This past weekend we were outnumbered greatly, but I have the youth of America believing in the Packers making a great run at another Super Bowl.  We had a lot of fun even it we live in the Chicago area.  Lot's of fun, but during halftime, we needed to stop the madness to get apicture of all of those who are the brave Packer souls living in Chicagoland!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Daddy Daughter Rock N'Roll Dance - 01/23/11 11:35 PM

OK....whast a great time my daughter, Claire, and I had a wonderful time at her "Girl Scouts" Daddy / Daughter date night.  Last year the Daddy Daughter dance them was the 1950's kind of a sock hop.  This year, the theme was Rock N' Roll.  So, my wife got her all dressed up in the best outfit that she could do.  So my wife got her all dolled up, but she really looks more like an 80's chick!  We had a blast at the dance....we tore it up the entire time.  She's my doll.....it was a great time!!!!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - My Son & The Great Outdoors during Fall Break!!!! - 10/13/10 09:52 PM

Here's my big dog!  He's up in Rocky Mountain National Park doing the lake climb.  We go to Bear Lake, Nymph Lake (that's where we're at for this photo), Dream Lake and Emerald.  It's our first day, so we do an easy 4 mile hike to help the family to get acclimated.  A lot of fun for all of us!  Needless to say, it was just so great being out there in nature without anyone else!  How fun!

pics: Speechless Sundays - A Dad's true Love! - 08/29/10 09:23 PM

OK....so from time to time, someone comes along that is working it.  You know that they'er working it.....they continue to work it....then they milk it, but at the end of the day.....You love it.  Even though you know better!  Tessa....today was your day.  Yesterday wasn't and tomorrow probably won't be.  But whatever charm you have, you poured all into one little container today!  You da bomb baby!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - Puppy Love - A dog and a girl - 07/28/10 01:26 PM

Donny Osmond had it right when he sang that old song "and they called it Puppy Love."  It seems to me that it's the best statement ever for Tessa and Otto!  Otto is only 15 months old, but between the two of them, you're looking at two great pups!  How cool is this stuff.  You couldn't write it any better.  Not sure if Tessa loves Otto more or Otto loves being loved more.  Neither seems to care.....both seem happy!

pics: Wordless Wednesdays - Mom, & Lake Michigan on the 4th of July - 07/14/10 03:02 PM

You know what I love about the 4th?  It's a holiday that just doesn't have any gifts, any presents, just celebration and gratitude.  It's awesome because you get to see, right here, that my wife and Grant, or "G" as I call him, are relishing the moment!  And in this case, it's moments!  A lot of fun here in Door County, Wisconsin during the summer.  All I can say is that it was one of a number of moments!  Happy 4th!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Home on the Range! - 02/28/10 10:25 AM

OK....pretty cool stuff here.  I have this guy that I work with.  He owns a ranch in Nebraska.  Pretty neat stuff.  They ranch all throughout the entire winter.  Anyway....I thought that it was really cool for him to share his pictures with me on the stuff that they do throughout the winter.  I'm amazed that they ranch through the negative numbers.....well below zero.....say down to -20F.

pics: Wordless Wednesday - Daddy Daughter Sock Hop - 02/10/10 08:16 PM
Have to add some words here.  I got my 1988 glasses that were copying the 1950's fashion.  That's the best I could do on a 45 minute notice.  Yes....my wife forgot to tell me that there was a theme because she spent the day working on my 7 year old daughter.  All I needed in the background was "Love and Marriage."  We had a blast and were the only couple that danced the entire night.
BTW....I couldn't find my pocket protector! … (13 comments)

pics: Wordless Wednesday - Daddy's Little Girl - 01/20/10 08:52 PM

OK.....so she's dumping her baby fat, and I'm taking it on!  Gross!  Well.....either way, it's great for me to hang with my little girl!  I love Tessa.  She's awesome!  She has a bit of spit fire with her, but it's all positive.  She never whines except when she's super tired, but she's not moody one bit!  It's a real joy to be your dad Tessa!  Daddy loves you!

pics: Speechless Sundays - Packer Warrior Ahead of the Game - 01/10/10 08:44 AM

I love Jake's optimism!  He's really dialed down.  He knows what he wants, who he wants, who he roots for and eventually who he's gonna play for!  Can you say.....GO PACK GO!!!!!  Needless to say, after school, come winter or summer, there's a lot of football in the Bettag house.  Sporting great team paraphenalia like this....can you blame them?
