speechless: Speechless Sundays - Crocodile Tears - 03/09/14 10:56 AM
So we did the
UNTHINKABLE..... We had a Catholic Brother stay at our house for the weekend during the largest vocation calling in North America.  We had a young guy who is from Brazil stay with us.  He is a stud, a rock star
He know where he is from and where he comes from and where he's headed and he INSPIRED!  He inspired, inspired and inspired.  My 15 year old boy thought he was a blast.  My 13 year old play hoops with him during his free time....and when it came time to take him back to the airport, my … (12 comments)

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Living the Life with My Youngest - 02/17/13 01:49 PM
I love going to church.  I go almost daily for a weekend mass or just for hanging around a bit in prayer at adoration.  But Sundays are pretty much a mandatory thing in our family.  When I joined Active Rain, my youngest was just a newbie floating around the Bettag household.  Now, this little kindergartner is an over the top angel....just like her mother.  Here she is looking her best with her Sunday best.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Exhausted with Christmas - 12/30/12 03:36 AM
So while the kids just couldn't wait for Christmas, it did have a tendency to take it's toll on them all.
Here is my 4th child, Grant.  He's finishing some last minute shopping for mom and for some siblings....
But, alas, my 7 year old can't shop like mom can and is wiped out.
Good time sleeping in la la land of whatever 7 year old's think of.
It really doesnt' get any better for him....or for dad!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Christmas w/the Bettags - Our Christmas Cart 2 U! - 12/16/12 11:11 AM
Tonight we celebrated a Christmas with my wife, 5 kids and my mom and dad.  This year they are headed up to their place in Door County to spend Christmast with 2 of my other siblings.
Jealous???  You bet...but to have my parents all night...selfishly not sharing them with anyone else, well....let's just say that it was incredible.
Since today was our first day of celebrating the Christmas season, I decided that it was about time that I share our Christmas photo with the rest of the world.  Here I am at all 6'2" of me, with my wife Michelle, and … (4 comments)

speechless: Speechless Sundays - The Next Generation of Riders!!! - 09/30/12 10:56 AM
So....here's a grand finale summer vacation.  One of the most expensive...and least enjoyable...times for me is the boring horseback ride.  I used to work on a dude ranch and really like just letting it all out every once and a while.  But for these three young bucks.....or buckettes....there is nothing more exciting than hopping on a flat, slow, hot and dusty trail.  For me???  The only enjoyment I received was watching them eat it up like ice cream on a hot summer day.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Best Buds!!! - 09/09/12 11:24 AM
So I think to myself....what a great family I have.  I'm saying this after my night tonight with a lot of crazy times with my kids bickering.  Sometimes I call them "THE BICKERSONS," but in general, they're inseparable.
So here is my 7 and 5 year old during the end of summer getaway at Door County.
For some odd reason, these two are inseparable.  Goota love it!
Happy Sunday...and Happy Speechless Sunday!!!!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - One Reason We Love Door County - 08/05/12 10:48 AM
So...we had the best fourth of July ever up in Door County Wisconsin this past summer.  It was a great time had by all.  We have scheduled our summer vacation up at Door County as well.  Here's one overwhelming reason why we keep going back.  For me....enough said!!!!  Hope you enjoy.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Door County over the 4th! - 07/08/12 11:01 AM
So I can't tell you how awesome it was to be in Door County over the 4th of July.  We had a blast and we threw the best fireworks display in Door County this year.  13 years and counting.  With our firework's permit we had over $8,000 worth of fireworks and 300 people in attendance.  3 Yachts watching from the bay as well.  It'll be hard to top next year, but somehow we'll find a way.  We always do!  Here's the sunset from the night before!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Best Sign that I've ever seen at Chuck E. Cheese....NO JOKE! - 04/29/12 11:18 AM
I kid you not...we went to Chuck E. Cheese for my 7 Year Old's Birthday.  As we walked in the first of the two sets of double doors, we went to the next double doors.  And on the wall....was this sign.  We live in a great area that is really a super nice area.  Not a high end area, but in any event...it's an area that has low crime, but....times are a changing.  Next time I go to Chuck E Cheese, I'm telling my kids to get ready for the full body cavity search.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - THE LAUNCH!!!! - 04/01/12 12:58 PM
So last fall, I finally get my raft done in our pond.  I build it with the kids and we all have a blast.  I get a bunch of barrels from Coca-Cola to use as floats, but silly me....I just assume that they're sealed, but I didn't check to see if they were sealed.  Well....this 300 pound contraption gets launched and 3 of the four are good to go.  I had to wait til spring to get it swapped out.  Never have enough people to help lift the darn thing, so I attach a rope to the corner, throw it over … (7 comments)

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Happy Dad and Happy Daughter - 03/25/12 12:31 PM
I gotta tell you that I love being a dad.  It's been 4 years since we've had our last child, Tessa.  Today we're heading to the Daddy - Daughter date dance, but Tessa isn't going.  Rather she's been crying that older sister Claire is going to this Hawiian Themed Dance.  So, in my best efforts to put a smile on her, I try to entertain.  It worked...until I put her down to walk out the door.  In any event....it's still fun being a dad!
I just love the look on her face.  You don't even have to know the kid to … (5 comments)

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Getting Ready for Summer!!! - 03/10/12 11:36 PM
I used to work at a Camp in Colorado when I was in college.  We had a 12 by 12 foot raft.  I was the head lifeguard and the Atheletic Director.  It was awesome.  In any event, many years later, when we got our new house it came with a 1 acre pond.  I couldn't wait for me to build the same 12 by 12 foot raft.
Guess What?
We get about 100 gallons a minute coming up through the underground springs and it's about 40 degrees.  Yesterday we waded out to bring the raft back and today we're going swimming … (13 comments)

speechless: Door County Vacation - Wordless Wednesday - 02/22/12 04:54 AM
Great summer retro shot.....My Oldest Boy, Brett, was on Grandpa's boat this summer.  We went to Door County and had a blast!  It was so much fun.  Here he "parked the boat" (can you do that?) in the middle of Lake Michigan and turned off the engine and let all the kids bail!  Brett had a blast.  It was a lot of fun!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - A feast with my beasts - 01/22/12 09:33 AM
So, I rotate every week with my kids on who is cooking with dad on a Sunday night for the family.  This week, it's Claire, my middle kid and oldest daughter.  It was 20 degrees outside the house and we made baby back ribs and she really wanted shore lunch potatoes and onions.  I really wasn't up for it as it's such a chore to prep.
I will say that it went over well.  I got a beer and Claire had a virgin Strawberry Margarita while we cooked over an open fire.  I've attached a photo of her with the ribs.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - My Masochistic Son!!!! - 01/08/12 10:41 AM
So we have a steam room that we like to hit in our house.  It's especially awesome during the cold winter months of December, January and February.  When we had our only flakes of the season a few weeks ago, we get the steamer as hot as we can and stay there as long as we can, and then when it gets too much to bear, we run outside and hit the snow.  Fortunately, we cool off much quicker than we heat up so we're out there not too long.
Here's Grant getting ready for the Packers in the Playoffs....trying to … (12 comments)

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Bathing Suits and Snow....You B Chillin!!!!!! - 12/11/11 01:19 PM
So.....today was a fun day at the Bettag house.  The 50,000 foot flyover went like this:
Church with the family; Homework; Basketball with just the 5 kids and myself; Watching the Packers Win......and....... Went into the steam room and let the kids run out and play in the snow and run back on it.

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Like Mother, Like Daughter - 12/04/11 08:34 AM

Gotta tell you, I love my women.  I don't think that I show my love for my wife nearly as much as I should, but I'll say that she does rock my world.  She's a great wife and a great mom of 5.  Our first two are boys and "boy" did my wife, pray, and pray, and pray, and pray for a girl.  She got two of them.  I imagine that it's for theses moments for them to bond.  Like I said....a chip off the ole block

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Rock & Roll Daughters, Part II - 11/20/11 10:42 AM

So....this past spring I went on my Daddy / Daughter date with my oldest daughter, Claire.  We went to the Rock & Roll night.  It was a lot of fun.  I have some pretty awesome pictures with us looking like we were serious rockers.  However, this time, we're just laughing and getting amped up for the big night.  It was a good night had by all!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - Happy Halloween from the Princess!!! - 11/06/11 06:19 AM

Pretty fun day last Friday at Tessa's pre-school.  All the parents got to come in and watch the parade.  It was fun.  Of course, Tessa seems as if she just won prom queen.  While I wouldn't want my kids vying for such an honor, I would be thrilled to here being the queen of a great family someday.  Seems to me as if she's go the walk down just perfectly!

speechless: Speechless Sundays - More Ridiculous Fun at the Bettag House - 10/30/11 03:00 PM

I used to work at a camp in Colorado during my summers.  It was a blast.  I was the athletic director and I was the head lifeguard as well.  So.....what I decided is that we had to have a huge pond as well as the same big raft that we hung out on all summer.  12 foot by 12 foot.  Here we are...day #1, unloading the wood.  Me and my youngest 4 unloading the wood.  Today, we are all done except for 4 boards.  We have 2 of the 4 barrels in place and am ready to do the launch!  … (6 comments)
