texas: How the Common Dandelion Helps Win the Day! - 04/22/09 09:22 AM
Yes, today's photo is a weed, a common weed, known as the dandelion. The dandelion is a perennial, herbaceous plant with long, lance-shaped leaves. They're so deeply toothed, they gave the plant its name in Old French: Dent-de-lion means lion's tooth. The flower head can change into the familiar, white, globular seed head overnight. Each seed has a tiny parachute, to travel far and wide in the wind. A strong wind can carry the parachutes miles away from the parent plant. A dandelion is really many tiny flowers bunched together. After a dandelion blooms, each of its tiny flowers

texas: Thoughtful Thursdays... Is there a group for TTs? - 04/15/09 08:25 PM
Is there a group for Thoughtful Thursdays? I searched and located a couple of entries with text that included Thoughtful Thursday, but did not locate an "official" group. If this is an error on my part, please let me know and Ill join the Thoughtful Thursday group. Meanwhile, I missed Speechless Sunday and Wordless Wednesday this week. I've received a few emails from Activerain friends asking me IF I'm OK. Yes, I'm alive and well... just inundated with work! I will not complain about that, but it sure makes me dull, duller and dullest - LOL! Easter Sunday was the only

texas: How do you rejuvinate your body & soul when your Biz get's you down? - 04/01/09 10:41 AM
Sometimes when my loss mitigation business get me down, I need to do something to perk up my spirits. Yesterday was that kind of day! I didn't have a whole lot of time, so I Googled "gardens Argyle TX." I followed the link and discovered Argyle Acres. It sounded like it was the right place for me to fill my eyes with nature's colors and warm my weary soul. So, I printed out the map, grabbed my camera and jumped in my car. It was only after I was half-way there that I thought I should have called first, but it

texas: When's the last time you had BBQ? Well, that's been too long! - 03/21/09 11:55 AM
I'm a Southern gal who LUVS bar-b-que (BBQ)... Whether it's BBQ chicken, BBQ shrimp, BBQ beef brisket, BBQ fish... I could do a Forrest Gump litany on how many ways to do BBQ, but I digress. My most favorite BBQ is baby back ribs! When I received my SAVEUR magazine this month my mouth fell open... I moaned and salivated on the spot. On the front cover was the most decadent display of RIBS I could ever imagine. That's when I knew winter was over and spring had sprung into full force for my taste buds. Another favorite of mine

texas: Cold Front Blowing in Lewisville, Texas... my first post to "Clouds at Activerain" - 03/02/09 09:38 PM
While I was out driving around running errands one afternoon in Lewisville, Texas I looked up and saw this amazing cloud formation building as a cold front was blowing in. Of course, I had to pull over, jump out with my camera and dodge traffic to capture it before it changed again. This is what people like me do whenever we see something we think is amazing, beautiful, strange, fascinating and want to share with others... or just look at for ourselves. My family thinks I'm crazy about my obsession with photography. My friends know I'm crazy... about shooting photos

texas: Sunset Over Central Texas - 03/02/09 09:29 PM
All of you will learn soon enough that I'm a little crazy about photogtraphy and love my new camera. It's a terrific tool for self-expression and it gives me tremendous pleasure to share my images with people. Whenever I'm running around or traveling somewhere my camera is always with me. This photo of Sunset in Central Texas occured while I was driving back to the Dallas/Fort Worth area after spending a week on South Padre Island, Texas. Just another one of many mad dashes to pull my car over to capture a photo before the light or something else changed.

texas: All that Jazz—It was sizzinlin' HOT! - 02/27/09 05:52 PM
All that Jazz—it was sizzlin' HOT! Last night I had the distinct pleasure of attending a jazz concert at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Headlining the evenings musical entertainment was the Dave Brubeck Quartet. I was looking forward to this event, but I was completely blown away by the music from Brubeck's All My Hope (1979) and Pange Lingua Variations (1983). The combination of a full orchestra, grand chorus and jazz quartet was absolutely one of the best musical experiences of my life. At 88 years of age, Dave Brubeck is killer on the piano! Bobby Militello's

texas: A Glimpse of the Past... & Renewed Passion for Life from Honolulu to the Heart of Texas - 02/20/09 11:57 PM
In September through October 2007, while my husband, Bruce, was in Queen's Medical Center for cancer treatment, occasionally I needed a place of solace and peace. Queen's had a lovely chapel where I could go during his surgical procedures and treatments where I was not allowed to be present. These were difficult times as we didn't want to be separated, but sometimes they wouldn't bend the rules. So, I found myself alone more often than desired. And even though the medical staff was very kind to us,

texas: How to Have a Terrific Time and Get a Tax Right Off! Or enjoy professional/personal reflection - 12/20/08 09:03 PM
South Padre Island, Texas—Beautiful beaches, warm Gulf waters, fishing, boating, bird watching, shopping, seafood fresh from the Gulf and additional year-round activities make South Padre Island a terrific vacation destination. During the "off season" it's a great place to get away from the maddening crowds and share time with your family or on your own to decompress, re-focus and blow out the cobwebs. Plus meet great, friendly people—locals and visitors alike!During the week after Thanksgiving I made a trek to South Padre Island, Texas. It was a time of personal and professional reflection. I didn't have a schedule to

texas: A beautiful day to celebrate! - 10/25/08 10:58 PM
A beautiful day to celebrate! (edit/delete) What a beautiful day to celebrate the first anniversary of Bruce's flight into a world of joy! I took my kayak to Lake Grapevine near Flower Mound, Texas armed with a couple of Bruce's favorite things—Shiner Bock beer and a hot dog plus rose petals to scatter across the water at sunset. This was a venture for two this year... just Bruce's spirit and me on the lake. Just before sunset a Great Blue Heron flew up on the shore. He looked straight at me, then turned to greet another Heron that flew up beside
