some thoughts in this "downtime" moment... - 11/26/08 10:58 AM
The repetitive nature of the media, with its constant humming of the same theme, hour after hour (is this what cable news created?) has the unfortunate effect of numbing the viewer's/listener's mind. How will we ever be able to let our creative selves out of the box of fear, if we continue to wallow in media "shout"? It's established that never before have the three main sectors of the economy (housing, stock market, banks/financial institutions/credit) been 'down' all at the same time. Clearly, the troubles that beset us (& it's a global problem, not an isolated issue in one particular country)

Salt Spring Sunday thoughts... - 11/16/08 01:47 PM
Sunday on Salt Spring, in the "off season". It's not raining, although the day is a "pewter grey" (that burnished light behind the clouds). The Village is busy, people strolling, some stores are open (Sunday hours), brunch is on at several restaurants, and those who were active in helping with the civic elections are resting up (election was yesterday). The incumbent trustees were returned, and we have a new CRD director. The proposal to increase the number of trustees for Salt Spring was defeated, and the proposal to increase the solid waste project in Burgoyne Bay Valley was passed. The usual

places to eat, things to do...on salt spring island! - 11/10/08 10:38 AM
November 10, 2008. Looking for a great space to enjoy a coffee and a "goodie"??? Salt Spring is lucky to have several! Give yourself a treat, and enjoy a "sweetie" out and about. Rendezvous Cafe is in the Salt Spring Marina complex, facing over towards Moby's and the marina docks. Owned by Bruno and Brigitte (you may remember them from the Saturday Market in the Park, during the "season", and from the Tuesday Farmer's Market in Ganges Village, also "in the season"), this wonderful hint of France, in "downtown Ganges", is not to be missed. Time it for a great quiche,

November monthly market thoughts... - 11/03/08 11:54 AM
November, 2008. It's very interesting that we have a meltdown in the financial/banking centres, plus in the housing market, plus in the stock markets, and all at the same time. This is something very "new", indeed. I'm of the opinion that it's "societal". In the early days of the 20th Century, life was much as it was at the end of the 19th. World War I was the dividing line, and the beginning of the 20th Century model. Perhaps this financial cataclysm, with its global dimensions, is the equivalent. It's definitely a dividing line of some sort, along the same lines
