New Orleans LA Named One of the 15 Coolest North American Cities - 01/23/09 09:15 PM
What does New Orleans have in common with Washington DC, Chicago, Santa Fe, Denver and others? It's been named one of the 15 coolest North American cities by msn.com, and rightfully so. After all, what other city in the U.S. can rival New Orleans with its rich history, stunning architecture and gourmet dining? While the typical visitor takes in the sights and sounds of the French Quarter and eats their way through the city until they are ready to pop the buttons off of their pants, residents know that New Orleans and the surrounding areas have so much more to (19 comments)

An Evening in New Orleans with Placido Domingo - 01/18/09 01:11 PM
New Orleans has always been known for the non-stop party atmosphere of the French Quarter, the glorious cuisine that makes every other city pale in comparison and the annual celebration of Mardi Gras. But there is so much more to the city than a 24 hour party and last night we able to soak in some culture of another type. Since Hurricane Katrina, the Mahalia Jackson Theatre has been shuttered due to storm damage. Flooding and wind damage left the electrical and mechanical system in ruins and mold began its march up the aisles, and across the seats, curtains and walls. (13 comments)

Overall for 2008, Belle Chasse is the bright spot in the West Bank real estate market. The number of homes sold remained steady from 2007, while the average sold price actually increased. We Had a Great Time! Choctaw Ball 2009 - 01/11/09 10:39 PM
I promised to come back today with photos from last night's Krewe of Choctaw Annual Pow Wow. What a night! We spent the day decorating tables, meeting caterers and getting dolled up for the big night.
With over 400 people in attendance, the Pow Wow was a resounding success. The evening opened with the posting of the colors by the Helen Cox JROTC Color Guard and the singing of the National Anthem.
One by one, the court from 2008 was honored.
Then came the entry of the Captain to open the ball. Only my musician hubby (24 comments)
It's Mardi Gras Time on the West Bank! - 01/10/09 09:51 AM
Believe it or not, the official Mardi Gras season of 2009 has begun. Tonight, we will be at Mardi Gras World in Algiers for the Krewe of Choctaw's Annual Big Pow-Wow (ball). I can't wait to see all of the beautiful costumes finally completed - I have big expectations for quite a show from the bits and pieces that I've picked up over the year. The Captain (aka my hubby) has been very secretive lately. He refused to tell me what color his costume is this year, which is a pain in the you-know-what since I normally try to find a (12 comments)
Help Rebuild New Orleans for a Song - 01/08/09 08:29 PM
Connecting with other real estate professionals on Twitter is fun. We get to know each other a little better and build our network, all in 140 characters or less. But, to me, the real benefit of using Twitter is connecting with people locally. Making new friends that know the neighborhoods, the customs and traditions. One evening there was a big discussion about the improprieties of eating king cake before King's Day. We take our food very seriously here. It's a local thing. Those are the kind of connections that are most meaningful to me in a city that is still rebuilding (20 comments)
New Orleans West Bank Real Estate: 2008 Year in Review - 01/07/09 11:18 PM
Thank goodness we can finally close the books on 2008 and say that we made it through with only a few bumps and bruises. It was a rough year for the real estate market all across the country. Despite the bad news coming at you from all of the national media, home sales on the West Bank did not suffer nearly as much as many other communities in places like Florida, California and Arizona. The West Bank report includes the communities of Algiers, Belle Chasse, Gretna, Terrytown, Harvey, Marrero and Westwego. For those tracking by zip code, that's 70114, 70131, 70037, (9 comments)
West Bank Living Has Been Posh'd! - 01/04/09 09:50 AM
I've been offline more than on for the last couple of weeks with the holidays, so imagine my surprise when I logged into Twitter last night and found that West Bank Living had been Posh'd! I don't know who nominated my site, but THANK YOU whoever you are.
Posh'd chooses real estate sites (that don't suck) each week and puts them to a vote. It's a great way to see other real estate sites and maybe pick up a few ideas for your own. You can vote for West Bank Living here.
