nas jrb new orleans: Military Buyers and the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit - 04/24/10 10:08 AM
If you are in the market to buy a home, you can’t throw a stick without hitting a REALTOR who is waving a sign and screaming about the end of the world first time home buyer’s tax credit on April 30th.  Overlooked in their zeal to rope in as many buyers as possible is the fact that there are exceptions to the rules and it’s a big one for members of the US military.

With a steady stream of service members relocating to and from NAS JRB New Orleans and NSA New Orleans, it’s important for you to know … (3 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: Moving From the West Coast to the Gulf Coast | Your PCS to NAS JRB New Orleans - 01/21/10 08:49 AM
A little bird recently put a bug in my ear (yeah, I’m know I’m mixing metaphors or whatever you call them) and told me that there are going to be a good number of military relocations from San Diego to NAS JRB New Orleans in the next couple of months.
If you are amongst those that leaving behind sun, sand and an ocean view, let me welcome you to New Orleans and to the West Bank.
I was recently in San Diego and Newport Beach and I have to say that I was hard pressed to leave. It’s a stunningly … (8 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: Sunday on the West Bank at the 2009 N'Awlins Air Show - 05/04/09 09:04 AM
We spent Sunday in Belle Chasse at the 2009 N’Awlins Air Show and it was AMAZING!
I haven’t been to an air show since I was in high school and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. We started out early in the morning, stopping for breakfast before heading over to NAS JRB New Orleans. Even before 9 am, people were streaming through the gates and spreading out over the huge area next to the runway that the show took place on.
The Virtual Army Experience was on hand, so we all signed up for our “mission” and took our … (8 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: New Orleans LA Named One of the 15 Coolest North American Cities - 01/23/09 09:15 PM
What does New Orleans have in common with Washington DC, Chicago, Santa Fe, Denver and others? It's been named one of the 15 coolest North American cities by msn.com, and rightfully so. After all, what other city in the U.S. can rival New Orleans with its rich history, stunning architecture and gourmet dining?
While the typical visitor takes in the sights and sounds of the French Quarter and eats their way through the city until they are ready to pop the buttons off of their pants, residents know that New Orleans and the surrounding areas have so much more to … (19 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: That's No Way to Treat A Soldier - 09/16/08 09:43 PM
I received an email yesterday from a couple who will be relocating to the NAS JRB New Orleans base soon.  They had been in regular contact with an agent in my area who was sending them listings week after week.  "Had been" being the operative words.
The agent was johnny on the spot with homes for sale - right up until the couple mentioned that they were not sure if they wanted to buy or if it would be a better choice to rent during their limited stay.  All communication from the agent came to a screeching halt.
Way to … (40 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: The Parks of Plaquemines - A New Belle Chasse LA Community - 08/21/08 08:22 AM
Belle Chasse is growing again! Take a drive down Woodland Highway and you'll see the signs. Slow down enough and you can see that just behind the tree line there is a flurry of clearing activity happening. A new residential development, The Parks of Plaquemines, is in the works and awaiting approval from the Parish Council.
Since Belle Chasse continues to be one of the highest demand areas to live in on the West Bank, especially for military relocations to NAS JRB New Orleans, it's a relief to see some new construction on the horizon.

I had a chance to … (3 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: Algiers Federal City One Step Closer to Reality - 08/15/08 08:15 AM
I can't begin to express how pleased I am that the proposed Federal City in Algiers seems to be moving forward!

What is the Federal City?
Scheduled to open on the existing Naval Support Activity in Algiers, the City is expected to house multiple military offices, with 2,000 Marine personnel to be transferred to the installation and the eventual addition of other federal, state and local offices.  The plan was developed when the NSA facility was slated for closure as part of BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure).  I'm actually already seeing the results of BRAC in other states … (8 comments)

nas jrb new orleans: NAS JRB New Orleans: A Welcome Home Troops Celebration - 07/27/08 02:58 PM

I was lucky enough to attend the Welcome Home Troops party this past Friday at the NAS JRB New Orleans base. The celebration was held to honor all of the troops who have come and gone from the base for the past year and all of the stops were pulled out.

There were inflatables for the kids to play on, a rock climbing wall for everyone and some deliciously cold sno-balls...then there were the clowns and the visits from Dora, Diego and the mascots from both the Hornets and the Zephyrs were on hand as well.

nas jrb new orleans: Military Relocations to NAS JRB New Orleans - 01/03/08 05:27 PM
Welcome to New Orleans!
Moving into a new area is always a bit of a challenge, especially when you don't have the luxury of a lot of time to decide on a new home.  As a military transferee with orders in hand, you are faced with deciding where to live rather quickly.  Most people who have never been to the New Orleans area don't know much about us except for what they've seen on TV.  Speaking as a native, I can tell you that there is a whole lot more to the city than Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street.
A little about … (18 comments)
