blog: Here Come The Blog Cops! December 1st FTC Changes - 11/09/09 12:49 PM
I've been hearing rumors of this, but this is the first definitive information I've read. Thanks to Ken Cook for this.

Via Ken Cook, FHA Home Loans 678-439-8683:
December 1st, The FTC, Testimonials and your Blog/New Media
December 1, 2010 is the date your blog and all new media advertising meets new enforcement and scrutiny. Meet the Federal Trade Commission 16 CFR Part 255 "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising". Much of the "guide" applies to celebrity endorsements and the use of "disclaimers" such as those which say "results not typical".
The word "endorsement" is used 188 … (8 comments)

blog: Blogging Before Active Rain... and NOW. A Short Trip Through Technology Time =) - 10/21/09 10:22 PM
When I first read the topic for the latest blog contest, I was pleased with the idea, since this was something I felt I could write about. But the days ticked by, and I found myself floundering for the creativity to write this post. I contemplated the avenues I've used in my real estate marketing; the many, many hours I've spent blogging, brainstorming, networking and... follow-upping? (lol. Sorry. I couldn't resist adding another "ing" word there), and the many topics I've covered throughout the years. I even scrolled back through the last few years of blog posts and found myself surprised … (10 comments)

blog: Wordless Wednesday.... Croooaaak - 08/05/09 11:21 PM

Well, it's Wordless Wednesday again. And as usual, my post is not wordless >.<  BUT, I'm not telling you about the photo  >=)  LOL. So enjoy contemplating, surmising, and commenting on this week's photo. (Hope you're not grossed out. Muwa ha ha haaa) And when you're done, I'll tell you what I had to go through to catch this leaping little bugger!

blog: A Very Cool Cake! Photo Taken by Lisa Hill, Daytona Beach Native. Please Take Time to Read the Blog Too! - 07/12/09 11:55 PM
It's that time again... time for a REALTOR® to show another aspect of their personality. So here I am, to throw my hat into the ring on yet another Speechless Sunday. And as usual, I'm unable to be "speechless" =P  But as I share this week's photo with you, as usual I will draw the line at any type of description, or discussion regarding the photo itself. But I want to preclude my photo with a little statement about my personal thoughts about photos and any type of art.
Most of the photos we see here on Wordless Wednesday and Speechless … (15 comments)

blog: 300,000+ Pieces of the Active Rain Puzzle - 03/13/09 09:57 PM
Fellow Rainers, this blog's for you. Yes, it's for you.
I know, I know. You're probably wondering how a post about my 300,000+ points could possibly be about you. But it is! Bear with me and let me paint a picture for you.
To reach 300,000 points, I've obviously written a lot of blog posts, and made a lot of comments. I've even won a couple of contests. But the snapshots of our history pages are what really tell the story of our time spent here. It could be viewed as pieces of a puzzle. To elaborate on this theory, … (43 comments)

blog: Port Orange and Countryside Have Their Own New Real Estate & Community Events Blog! - 01/18/09 12:38 AM
Good news for Port Orange residents... and residents of the Countryside Community. As many of you know, I'm a lifetime resident of Daytona Beach, and I've lived in The Hunt Club in Countryside for the last 10 years. My husband has been on the Board of our Home Owner's Association (HOA) for the last few years... I've lost count of exactly how many. Don't tell him I'm giving him too much praise. We wouldn't want him to let this go to his head =P but he does a really good job  =)  If you've ever served on an HOA Board, you … (4 comments)

blog: The REALTORĀ® Code of Ethics: An Expanded Perspective - 01/07/09 01:08 AM
Over a year ago, I wrote a blog post about the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. In real estate, our Code of Ethics is something that sets us apart from other industries, and even other arms of the real estate industry. There are so many misconceptions of REALTORS®, but the guidelines for every REALTORS®' actions are spelled out in our Code of Ethics. So I wanted to provide this information that will educate the public, and put some misconceptions to rest. You'll also find out how YOU (the consumer) can stand up for your rights!
Last week, I completed my recent CoE … (13 comments)

blog: Florida's Home Foreclosures - 10/16/08 02:07 AM
I was just commenting on a real estate blog post here on Active Rain, with the TV turned down pretty low. I tend to blog this way quite freqently. I don't really like to just sit and watch TV. Actually, I think I'm incapable of doing just one thing at a time. Anyway, I wasn't really paying attention to the TV until I heard a commercial that had just one statement that got my attention. It was about the real estate foreclosure market in Florida.
With the presidential election coming up in just a few weeks, there have been a lot … (11 comments)

blog: Continuation of Blogging, Commenting, Link-Backs, Photos and SEO. A Beginner's Guide - 09/05/08 12:25 PM

A few days ago I wrote a blog post to explain the basics of technology and search engine placement, and how we help each other when we post blogs with links to each other in them. I also addressed the importance of photos, and gave a very basic explanation of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The general idea is that we all need to help each other.
This post is to address the one thing I left out of the last post. It was in the title, but I didn't really address it in the post. The part I left out is … (3 comments)

blog: Blogging, Commenting, Link-Backs, Photos and SEO. A Beginner's Guide - 09/01/08 12:26 PM

Yesterday, I wrote a post that featured bloggers from around the country, who had written extraordinary blog posts for the Things to Do/Places to Visit Group, here on Active Rain. (Thanks for the gold star) Today I wanted to take the opportunity to point out something that most of you probably didn't realize when you read and commented on that blog post, and explain how and why I did it.
With each person that was featured in that post, I inserted their name, their profession, their place of business, and the area they served. I then highlighted all that information … (15 comments)

blog: Congratulations to Me. 200,000 points and counting! - 06/09/08 10:58 PM
This is a silly, lighthearted post. My comments today just pushed my points beyond 200,000. And my last post was my 400th. So here are my official stats...

BTW, I found this cool, freeware tool for screen captures like this. Follow the link to get yours. This is one of the most simplistic pieces of software I've ever seen, but it's not like I needed something fancy for a screen shot.

One thing I'd like to point out about my stats. I have way more comments than I do posts. It's a way of paying it forward. We should … (19 comments)

blog: Blogging & Commenting Protocol. Know your Netiquette! - 05/20/08 12:05 PM
Lately I've read several blog posts from Active Rain bloggers who are receiving derogatory comments on their posts, and are seeing them on other posts as well. I knew this would eventually happen as the site continues to grow, but I was hoping it would be later, rather than sooner.
The scenario I'm about to share, is not one that I had planned on sharing. However, in light of what seems to be a rampant problem, I'm going to do my best to do it justice and not offend the parties involved... well, actually only one party is aware of this … (51 comments)

blog: Port Orange issues new light law - 05/12/08 03:02 AM
Recently, some Port Orange neighbors had a feud over a 1,000 watt light bulb that was shining from one house, onto the other.
As usual, not all neighbors can get along. And in this case a feud between nieghbors over a bright light, resulted in a change in the rules regarding how bright, outdoor louds are allowed to be. This new rule was added to the city's Nuisance Ordinance. It basically allows for safety lights, but not nuisance lights. So you're not allowed to decide you dislike your neighbor, and install excessively bright lights that shine directly on neighbor's house.
Yeah, … (2 comments)

blog: Real Estate Agents and Mortgage Brokers: How to be professional, outside your field of expertise - 05/06/08 12:26 AM
Real estate buyers and sellers, please allow me to vent my frustrations with our current real estate market. I invite you to read along and hopefully, get an inside look at some of the problems that are contributing to today's real estate market conditions.
I was just reading a post by Richard Zaretsky titled "Back to Basics-A Review on Short Sales". His post is chock full of more information than I can digest in one sitting. I bookmarked it for future reference. I also sent a link to one of my clients who is facing eminent foreclosure if we can't get … (4 comments)

blog: Do You Use All the Tools at Your Disposal? - 04/23/08 12:37 PM
Hello, all my fellow REALTORS, mortgage brokers, title companies, home stagers, and all bloggers who are looking for ways to make their blog posts more colorful, refreshing, interesting and/or professional! This post is going to be an open-ended, shared information blog.
There are so many
web sites, widgets, HTML flyers, video sites, blogs, photo hosting sites, photo editing sites and more... that it's next to impossible to keep track of them all. And we really don't need to track them all. We just have to decide which ones best meet our own needs and the needs of our clients. I'm going … (61 comments)

blog: Blogging for Real Estate. Does it work? - 03/27/08 10:08 PM
Yes, this is another real estate blog... kinda. I see the question being tossed around a lot amongst other real estate bloggers, as to whether blogging actually works or not.
Yesterday, I wrote a quick post to this blog, about the 3 new real estate listings I had just taken. But I neglected to mention one thing. The lead that brought those listings came directly through my Active Rain real estate blog. A man who is trying to help his parents get their investment properties sold, after having a bad experience with another local REALTOR®, did an internet search and found my … (10 comments)

blog: Thank You to the REALTOR LIFE group. I won the Back to Nature Contest! - 03/13/08 11:16 PM
It's been quite some time since I posted my blog about Tomoka State Park, located in Ormond Beach. We went there all the time when I was a child. You can read that post here: Florida Parks and Childhood Memories.
At some point, after writing that post, since I had written so many posts about the parks, museums, art shows, beaches, Science Centers and more, all located in the Daytona Beach area, I started the Things to Do/Places to Visit group here on Active Rain. That group is for Localism posts that are primarily to inform visitors, or people who are … (7 comments)

blog: The Relationship Between REALTORSĀ® and their Clients - 03/04/08 11:28 PM
Real estate buyers and sellers, and the agents who help them, this post is for all of you!
I was just reading a post by Lola Audu about some happy real estate buyers of hers who had been approached by a scam artist. Fortunately, the buyers called their trusted real estate agent instead of taking the word of a stranger who was trying to make them believe that their home had liens against it and was going into foreclosure. It’s a shame that these real estate scam attempts are becoming all too common. My reason for writing this post is to … (11 comments)

blog: TypePad? - 01/02/08 08:34 PM

Over the past year or so of blogging about real estate, primarily for Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Ponce Inlet and Ormond Beach, I've used several blog platforms. Active Rain has been my hands down favorite, primarily because of it's SEO power. But as Google changed it's algorithm and left us floundering to keep up, the general consensus here seems to have ended up being that we shouldn't have all our eggs in one basket. As such, many of us have been experimenting with other blogging platforms.
Most of the SEO problems we experience with ANY of the blogging platforms we use, … (7 comments)
