I recently read an article stating that bankruptcies are not nearing an end, but in fact, they are steadily increasing! U.S. consumers and businesses are filing for bankruptcy at a pace making 2009 the seventh-worst year to date, with more than 1.4 million petitions having been submitted. Information gathered from the nation's 90 bankruptcy districts found 1.43 million filings, which is an increase of 32 percent from 2008. There were 116,000 recorded bankruptcies in December, up 22 percent from December last year. South Florida consumers and businesses filings increased approximately 28 percent in 2009.
