Paperwhite narcissus is one of the easiest, and most popular, bulbs to force.
Here in Bethesda Maryland it seems that it has rained non stop all fall!  I keep predeicting in dire tones that this winter is going to be just as snowy as the fall has been rainy.  Actually I don't think that a snowy winter means a bleak winter, but to some people it does.   Whether you are one of those people or not, you should consider getting ready to fight the short winter days and dark nights by bringing in a little bit of spring with forced … (2 comments)

I just looked out my front window here in Bethesda Maryland, and it is snowing again.  I am trying to figure out how I will get to a photo shoot tomorrow for my new listing - only 1/2 an hour around the Beltway, but it could be an hour tomorrow in the snow! It is beautiful outside in the snow and the weathermen are calling for 4 to 6 inches by early tomorrow morning! Oh well, it is going to snow - or not- whether I fret about it or not.

Trust Harvard to be at the cutting edge!  There is an underground revolution spreading across Harvard University this fall. It's occurring under the soil and involves fungi, bacteria, microbes and roots, which are now fed with compost and compost tea rather than pesticides and synthetic nitrogen.
The results have so astounded university administrators that what started as a one-acre pilot project in Harvard Yard has spread organic practices through 25 acres on the campus.
