lise howe realtor: Visit the National Gallery This Weekend! Expand Your Horizons! - 11/10/11 07:22 AM
The National Gallery of Art was created in 1937  by a joint resolution of Congress, accepting the gift of financier and art collector Andrew W. Mellon. During the 1920s, Mr. Mellon began collecting with the intention of forming a public gallery of art in Washington. In 1937, the year of his death, he promised his collection to the United States.  On March 17, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt accepted the museum, then housed in the newly built building (now the West Wing) and the collections on behalf of the people of the United States of America.

DID YOU KNOW.......
The number of homes taken back by the banks topped 100,000 for the first time in September?
REO for the third quarter of 2010 reached a new record as lenders took back over 288,000 properties, a 7 percent increase from the previous quarter and a 22 percent increase from the previous year.
Foreclosure and REO activity are expected to abate over at least the next month or two, but not for any positive reasons such as an improving economy, markets clearing, or job creation. Instead, they are expected to abate because of the missing and fraudulent paperwork.
If these freezes turn into … (3 comments)

lise howe realtor: Lise Howe Focus on Cleveland Park, Washington, DC - 10/13/10 11:34 PM
Cleveland Park is one of those very special wonders of Washington DC that make the city human and yet exquisitely elegant.  Once a single farm of about 1000 acres belonging to General Uriah Forest, an aide-de-camp of George Washington, Cleveland Park can trace its origins to the 1740′s. Forest and his business partner, Col. Benjamin Stoddert, called the area about Forest’s farmhouse Rosedale. Dating to about 1793, the farmhouse structure is still surrounded by open space reminiscent of its original setting as gardens and farmland. A number of years ago, neighbors banded together to preserve the area which is now held … (0 comments)

lise howe realtor: Westmoreland Hill's Historical Origins - 02/10/10 08:20 PM
One of the many joys of Westmoreland Hills in Bethesda Maryland is its great neighborhood park, tucked away in the back of the neighborhood.  Probably only a few people in Bethesda realize that there is a link to the Civil War in this wonderful neighborhood park with its playground, softball field, multi-use field and two tennis courts.
Located at Westmoreland Hills Local Park, Battery Bailey was a man-made hill constructed to support cannons aimed at protecting the reservoir of water for the City of Washington. It was located between Fort Sumner and Fort Mansfield, constructed during the Civil War as a part of … (0 comments)

Just north of the District of Columbia on Massachusetts Avenue is a very special community - Westmoreland Hills.
Composed of nearly 500 homes, this elegant community is placed among rolling hills and tall shade trees in close in Bethesda, MD.  The oldest house in Westmoreland Hills was built in 1923 - a charming clapboard NE style colonial at 4516 Wetherill.  However, most of the homes were built in the late 1940s and 1950s.  Traditional colonials are interspersed with a few split levels which give the neighborhood a little change.
Currently there are six properties on the market in Westmoreland … (1 comments)
