If you are relocating to DC - Then let me be the first to Say - Welcome to the DC metro area.  Composed of DC, Maryland and Virginia, there are lots of housing options to explore, depending on your job, interests, and price range.  If you are looking for privacy and securit, you might consider a gated communities. It is important to understand that the DC area does not have as many gated communities as you might find in some other parts of the country.  Having said that, there still are enough communities here to offer a good choice - with different styles, prices, and … (1 comments)

washington dc: Picturesque Autumn Day Trip - Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive - 10/22/10 04:32 PM
Arynne Crane, who works with me, took a day off and went to the Skyline Drive to enjoy an escape from the office (and me I suspect.)  She certainly picked the best day imaginable and she took some of the most spectacular photos which I begged her to let me share with you.

Skyline Drive begins in Front Royal, VA, approximately 1 hour and 20 min drive from Washington DC.  The fresh air and serene surroundings that await you are certainly worth any traffic you may encounter on Rt 66.  This winding roadway runs along the crest of the colorful Blue … (2 comments)

washington dc: Atlas District / H St Corridor Features and Facts - 10/21/10 11:10 AM

Atlas District / H St Corridor
Brick sidewalks, colorful row houses & mature trees line the residential area surrounding The Atlas District, aka, The H St Corridor.  This is still one of DC’s most affordable areas and now may be the best time to purchase one of the many renovated homes in this bustling neighborhood.   As the trolley project nears completion, the home prices most likely will increase the value and sales price of homes near H St.  With a new restaurant, lounge or art gallery opening every time you blink, there is no other neighborhood where you’ll find sword-swallowing bartenders, live … (1 comments)

washington dc: How Much is that Condo Fee Going to Cost You? - 02/04/10 03:07 PM
If you are in the market for a condo in DC, you should definately keep an eye on the condo fees that you will be paying.  Unlike a coop fee which covers your portion of the overall taxes on the building and possibly an underlying mortgage (both of which may be tax deductible), condo fees generally do not include any items which are tax deductible, and instead are an additional expense on top of an already potentially hefty mortgage payment.  Buyers should carefully compare monthly fees when they are shopping for a condo to make sure they know what costs are covered.

washington dc: Logan Circle Update - 11/03/09 01:51 PM
Logan Circle is now one of the best areas in Washington, but it wasn't always the case. Logan Circle is a recently restored community, filled with urbanites, restaurants, and the best Whole Foods in the city with a colorful past. Now it is a gracious neighborhood with upscale condos, beautiful Victorian townhomes and newly constructed apartment buildings.
Did you know that Logan Circle itself wasn't always known as Logan Circle?  Until 1930  Logan Circle was named Iowa Circle.  Finally, in 1930 Congress passed a Law changing the name of Iowa Circle to Logan Circle in memory of Civil War General and Senator John A. Logan (D-IL). … (1 comments)

washington dc: The Views in DC are Monumental! - 04/30/09 01:50 PM
For the last 2 weeks I have been showing properties in downtown DC  to a couple who want a balcony for morning coffee or a roof terrace for dinner parties. The thing that I have been struck by time and time again as we go around the city is how incredible the views are from so many condos in downtown DC.  I step out onto the balcony and turn my head to the right or left - - and there it is - a national landmark. Frequently it is the Washington Monument, peeking over the nearby buildings.  Then my thoughts immediately turn to the Fourth of July … (5 comments)

washington dc: Cherry Trees Are Blooming Again - 04/08/09 01:35 PM
It happens every year! The 3750 cherry trees around the Tidal Basin burst into bloom and the city explodes with tourists.  Most of the trees are Yoshino Cherry, but there also are Kwanzan Cherry, Akebono Cherry, Takesimensis Cherry, Usuzumi Cherry, Weeping Japanese Cherry, Sargent Cherry, Autumn Flowering Cherry, Fugenzo Cherry, Afterglow Cherry, Shirofugen Cherry and Okame Cherry.
In 1912, the people of Japan sent 3,020 cherry trees to the United States as a gift of friendship. The First Lady, Mrs. Taft, and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese Ambassador, planted the first two cherry trees on the northern bank of the Tidal Basin. … (8 comments)

washington dc: Glen Echo Proves that DC is More Than The White House - 02/02/09 01:29 PM
DC is filled with lots of little neighborhoods and communities, both in the city and outside. Like other parts of America, the DC metro area reflect the history of our country as it has evolved over the last 200 plus years. Washington is more than the White House and whichever administration is here.
One of my favorite communities is Glen Echo, a very small town of 125 houses in Montgomery County just over the District line along the Potomac river.  Glen Echo began in 1889 when two brothers, Edward and Edwin Baltzley, bought land along the Potomac River from the Walhonding Road area … (2 comments)

washington dc: There is more to Washington than Politicians! - 01/27/09 02:20 PM
Welcome to Washington, which is not just home to Presidents and other politicians, but regular people too. Even if you aren't planning a trip to DC any time soon, I would like to share a little of my hometown. Maybe you will come to Washington some time - and I hope you look me up! It's a great city and I love to tell people a little of its history and some of its quirks. It's like any hometown, but more famous!
You probably saw the concert on Sunday afternoon of the Inaugural weekend in front of the Lincoln memorial.  Did you … (5 comments)
