snellville: Snellville/Brookwood Blog is Back- Run the Reagan and More - 02/27/11 09:53 PM
Hi everyone. It has been a minute since I was able to blog. With the passing of my wife's father, I have been the daddy and the mommy for 2 weeks. Suffice to say, it has been busy. Many things have gone on in the last couple of weeks. 1. Run the Reagan was a great success. Last Saturday (2/19/11), they closed Ronald Reagan Parkway. Participants could run a 5K or run the entire highway. They had local sponsors and set up an area for kids to play. My kids had a blast- no, I didn't run but enjoyed the festivities

Location, location, location Where you buy not only affects the home's current and future value, but it also affects your lifestyle. Your agent will be able to conduct a more targeted home search if you outline your preferences in neighborhoods and nearby amenities. Here's a checklist of items you should consider and communicate to your chosen real estate agent. * Urban, suburban or rural * Commute time * School districts * Desirable neighborhoods * Proximity to the airport * Proximity to restaurants and retail * Access to major highways and thoroughfares * Access to public transportation * Health care facilities *

snellville: Gwinnett County Cancels School Tomorrow/State of Emergency in Georgia - 01/09/11 11:11 PM
Gwinnett County canceled school tomorrow. Governor Sonny Purdue, in what is most likely his last act as governor, declared a state of emergency. I was out earlier this evening around 9:00 p.m. in Snellville. 124 was totally covered in just about 30 minutes of snow fall. In the 2 minutes it took to return a movie and go back to my car, the car was covered. Driving is very dangerous now. The downtown connector has an overturned truck. The DOT put a mix of salt and gravel down on the roads prior to the snow to avoid icing over. It appears

snellville: Brookwood Broncos: State AAAAA Georgia High School Champions - 12/11/10 11:54 PM
Way to go Brookwood Broncos! Not only does Brookwood have the best SAT scores in Gwinnett, but they are now state football champions. Brookwood won 52-38 over Colquitt County in a game that saw nearly 1000 yards of offense. Both teams were very impressive. Turn overs turned out to be key, with Brookwood getting some key interceptions at crucial times in the game. Coach Crews, on staff during their 1996 championship run, cited the community and school as some of the major reasons that the year was so successful. He said his team has been working at this since last December. The

snellville: Gary's Bistro- The Avenue at Webb Gin's newest restaurant - 11/20/10 12:22 AM
We ate at Gary's Bistro this evening. What a fabulous meal! I hadn't yet heard about it since it has only been opened for 2 months. They sent out a mailer and we checked it out. I am glad we did. The menu ranges in price from about $8-18 for an entree. Tonight's special was BBQ chicken and mashed potatoes for $8.95. I didn't order it, but they have nightly specials like that. Granite counter tops and semi-open kitchen make it feel warm. The wait staff was friendly and gave oodles of attention to my kids- always a plus. They also

snellville: Gwinnett County Public Schools Wins the $1 Million Broad Prize - 10/19/10 11:31 PM
Hats off to Gwinnett County Public Schools for winning the Broad Prize. The Broad foundation awards "urban" school districts who have demonstrated great gains and the closing of achievement gaps. Last year, Gwinnett was a finalist and took home $250,000 in scholarships for GCPS students. This year, GCPS won! Why did GCPS win? The achievement gap between White and African-American students shrunk. GCPS outperformed other state and Atlanta area districts. Participation in the ACT, SAT and AP exams among African-American and Hispanic students increased between 2006-2009 A greater percentage of the African-American,Hispanic and other minority students are achieving at a high level on state reading
