chinese new year: Earth-Wise New Year - 12/31/08 07:10 PM
Earth-Wise New Year The natural new year comes in so quietly, as not even to notice it. December 21 finds the earth reversing the 'tilt' on its so-called 'axis'. They say the sun 'stands still' for that time as the Northern Hemisphere transitions from the shortest, darkest day of the year to lengthened days from that moment until the Summer Solstice. That sounds like the beginning of the New Year to me - and my favorite day of the entire year. chinese new year: Light Offerings * Yitung Temple Kelowna - 02/19/08 01:01 AM
The February full moon signals the final celebration of 4 weeks of Chinese New Year. At Yitung Temple the ceremony took place Sunday. The Chinese New Year Celebrations make so much sense relating to intention, clearing out, making way for new things. The 4 weeks offers good time for evaluation and reflection of priorities and desired intentions. Light Offerings a significant part of the service, the candlelight symbolizes enlightenment. I love the very meaningful symbols of practical intention. During the 2 week period the Chinese have a custom of giving oranges when visiting friends and family. Just a brown paper bag will do - or better yet, use an earth
