kelowna: Meeting The Right People? OR ... Meeting People Right? - 07/29/10 05:21 PM
Meeting The Right People? OR ... Meeting People Right? It's tremendously encouraging professionally to be grouped with others going your way, who have similar needs and goals. When making a career shift it becomes especially critical to follow the leads of networking that will take you where you want to be. Meeting The Right People? I found I wasn't...... A good friend referred me to ... CBD Network Having left off running business to pursue employment in my field of business, sales and interior design, the trail has been challenging. While I'd developed some great ideas for representing my capacities on a resume, cover and follow-up, I felt lost

kelowna: Nest Disturbance Effective Indeed * Brandt's Creek * Waterfront Park * Canada Geese - 11/09/08 10:47 AM
Sometimes a change in my environment doesn't quite sink in for awhile. A previous post, 'Goose Poop Park' - The Geese - or the Park? dealt with the issue of Canada Geese 'messing' up Waterfront Park in upscale downtown Kelowna. The following spring on my usual walks through the Brandt's Creek reserve area and the waterfront, I noticed FAR FEWER babies. Catching my attention, it puzzled me. It was later that someone told me about the 'authorities' - the city, I suppose would make the decision, to disrupt the nests. The resultant disappointment was the

kelowna: Room Architecture in Interior Design * Living Spaces Kelowna - 11/01/08 10:14 PM
What is the first thing to consider with the design of an empty space? Room architecture. What is the first thing to consider when re-decorating a room? Room architecture. Room Architecture Acknowledge the actual skeleton of a room - the form, lines, millwork, windows, size, scale, ceiling and floor planes Focus FIRST on the actual bones of a room, BEFORE what to fill it up with Recognize the common and extraordinary planes - vaulting, gables, angles, etc. Space is expensive. Make the most of it, instead of diminishing it with excess ‘decorating'. Pay attention to structure and do everything

kelowna: Tango Kelowna * Three Minutes Of Intimacy p2 * The Breath of Dance * Argentine Tango * Dance Cafe Kelowna - 06/29/08 03:38 PM
Exploration of the lingering provocative statement twigged me to more closely consider breath in dance, slowing down in my mind, the nuances of tango engagement. One hardly thinks of the breath, as each is involved with lead and follow, moved by the music. Through music and motion, and when allowed, a new energy is created. Taking over, it breathes life into the synchronsitic movement. In intimate embrace, he leads with stealth, the walking steps, like a panther, they describe it in Argentina. But since the dancers are focused on intuiting the music and the dance, is the breath even noticed? Perhaps not by logical thought, but yes there it is. Almost subliminal through passes, turns, leans, ganchos, the 'ether' of the breath registers somewhere primal as it grazes a cheek, whispers over

kelowna: Kelowna BC * Living Spaces Design Interior Design & Staging - 05/04/08 11:13 PM
Kelowna British Columbia... .. God's country many are wont to call it. Spectacular Mountain & Lakeview Scenery has attracted from the start, travellers from all over the world, now more than ever. Long famous for a climate conducive to growing fabulous fresh fruit, shipping internationally, a thriving internationally acclaimed wine industry has evolved on perfect valley slopes. Kelowna, an international vacation hub, & central BC business center has spread it's irresisitible appeal worldwide. Internationals & Canadians relocate here for the various amenities, hot summers & mild winters. Many purchase vacation, golf & ski resort properties as second & main residences. The retirement population along with the weather has earned the region the nick-name, "Miami North". Scaling from that

kelowna: Kelowna BC * Strong Market * Living Spaces Design Interior Design & Staging - 05/04/08 10:29 PM
Construction has boomed over the past several years. Reaching a feverish pitch with a labour shortage, the provincial government made agreements with other countries (ie: Jamaica) to bring in specialized labor - electricians, plumbers, etc. A long period of provincial economic lows & the international exchange rate, supported & encouraged international investment interest creating development flow in the nineties. The low Canadian dollar made it very appealing to BC's immediate neighbors Washington State & Alberta residents, as well as many internationals to invest in Okanagan recreational properties. This is where I started staging in the nineties (decorating we called it then!) properties for developers' & internationals' vacation &

kelowna: Ski Resort Decor Interiors * Big White Mountain * Okanagan Similkameen * Kelowna * Chalets Cabins Condos * Living Spaces Design - 04/29/08 07:40 PM
With construction buzzing year round in BC, Ski Resort Decor is seasonable in the 'off season'! Obviously spring is the time for getting a great head start on chalet, condo & cabin interiors outfitting & arrangement ready to go for the snow season in November. The rush is really on in the autumn. I've met the 'snowfall' deadlines, but with a lot of scurrying! Svelt Italian Modern decor is making appearances at the resorts. However, if you own a rental property, you likely well know that skiers are rough on rental and lodge properties. Certainly you would not use glass, or otherwise sleek smooth surfaces in these interiors for ski boots & gear to be landing on and scraped across! It is always best

kelowna: Buddhist Temple Kelowna * Yitung * Interview with Master Xhing Ru * part 2 - 02/23/08 08:34 PM
Talks With Xhing Ru What Do We Need? Interview part 1 Master Xhing Ru, along with her associate Xhing Hai came to Canada in 1995. Wanting to work with Canadians and learn western ways, they first lived in White Rock BC, a beautiful seaside location. Soon White Rock became "..too 'Chinese'", says Ru, with many associations of that persuasion. Zhing Ru wanted to learn Canadian customs, so then moved to Richmond - we know of course of the influx of Chinese there. "I want to learn Canadian, western ways. .. can't with so many Chinese - too many!" she exclaimed, shrugging shoulders draped in the gray robe. "Canadians

Thoughts begin to turn toward cheery colors, accents, painting and redecorating. kelowna: Spring Staging * LIVING SPACES * Kelowna Home Selling - 02/23/08 05:36 PM
January and February is when home sellers begin thinking of listing their homes for spring sale. It's a time for also readying the property for the market. March is now quickly nearing! Perhaps the property has been on the market for some time. The local Okanagan and Kelowna market has become very competitive in the strength of recent years. It has also meant that extra efforts need be established to get to the head of the pack. Meadow Suite II Art Print Novak, Shirley Buy Affordable Art Prints The right time to stage is before listing. kelowna: Light Offerings * Yitung Temple Kelowna - 02/19/08 01:01 AM
The February full moon signals the final celebration of 4 weeks of Chinese New Year. At Yitung Temple the ceremony took place Sunday. The Chinese New Year Celebrations make so much sense relating to intention, clearing out, making way for new things. The 4 weeks offers good time for evaluation and reflection of priorities and desired intentions. Light Offerings a significant part of the service, the candlelight symbolizes enlightenment. Buddha taught that all are enlightened needing only to find and nurture the divine life within. each person lit their candle from the large gold one on the altar then, returning to the altar offered a personal wish (intention), placing the burning candles on the altar

kelowna: Kelowna Home Staging * Art In Modern Interiors * LIVING SPACES - 02/16/08 10:59 PM
Art is subjective. It is can be difficult to choose it objectively. Art tends to have a strong emotional impact. It appeals to the creative right brain. That's a great thing when selecting it for personal use and enjoyment. The left brain relates to art by trying to quantify and qualify, it seeks to make a logical decision about it. We need to balance left and right brain processes when selecting art for staging. It isn't the usual way we buy art, so can feel somewhat alien making a 'logical' decision where an emotive one is the usual criteria. (Sorry! but it's why A-types tend to need creatives to help them -

kelowna: Three Minutes Of Intimacy * Kelowna Dance Cafe - 02/14/08 03:29 PM
I wrote this analogy of the brief intimacy of dance encounters - now I feel shy releasing it! My date was a wavy-haired blond blue-eyed Hamburg-born Canadian - A 'Hamburger', he called himself! Driving the 4 hr drive from Vancouver to Kelowna in his black Corvette, we were meeting for dinner. I left work this blazing summer evening directly to the lakeside restaurant. This was the perfect date on a perfect summer evening. Waning light of dusk replaced the hot sun with a balmy breeze that was a breathy kiss on bare shoulders. Walking after dinner, with firm confidence he took my

kelowna: Kelowna Women Midlife Wisdom Support Meditation Group - 02/09/08 11:42 AM
Monday Meditations are now open to everyone - 7pm Mondays. If you are a woman at midlife, there is no question that there are adjustments required to improve the quality of life and health at this time. While there is increased awareness and helpful information, it can be difficult to access needed support. Solid Professional assistance can be lacking in knowledge and understanding of progressive integrative medicine & what is truly helpful. Each woman must find her way - a time to call deeply into our own inner wisdom. For some the transition is a lonely journey. Let's join our strengths together! A longing for
