A meticulous, industrious man; prolific and proficient artist, he was never good enough - as hard as he tried, his writings indicate a compulsion to deride his own work, hoping for the elusive stage of one day 'getting good enough'.
I have reflected over the years that often, it isn't necessarily those most talented who achieve success. The most successful may have only a fraction of the talent, but they believe in it, right - OR WRONG.

Van Gogh sold but one painting while alive, of over 1000 drawings and 600 paintings. However in his varied career, he was commissioned early on to draw street scenes and paint portraits.

At first dark sombre pieces, his studies developed a brighter style of painting. In Paris 1886, connecting with impressionism Van Gogh was also influenced by the post impressionists, eager to learn and develop. Among the associations were Gaugin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Emile Bernard, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Camille Pissarro, and Paul Signac.

I wrote this analogy of the brief intimacy of dance encounters - now I feel shy releasing it!
My date was a wavy-haired blond blue-eyed Hamburg-born Canadian - A 'Hamburger', he called himself! Driving the 4 hr drive from Vancouver to Kelowna in his black Corvette, we were meeting for dinner. I left work this blazing summer evening directly to the lakeside restaurant.

An artist, stager and designer, I have developed views from each discipline of the use of art in Interior Design and Home Staging that tend perhaps to differ somewhat from the mainstream. Thank goodness for a more general understanding collectively of the use of eclectic mix in interiors and away from the 'matchy' thing previously prevalent. Some 'professionals' can tend to be stuck in the 'matchy' mud, as well. The consumer is becoming more savvy and boldly pulling together various elements to work together.
