New word for our vocabulary this year: Re-defaulting - 12/24/08 02:30 PM
Not surprising - People that over charged their credit cards, over qualified for their mortgage on a home that they couldn't afford in the first place, with an ARM that they could never face when it came due (my dad would say - bit of more than they could chew) faced defaulting and foreclosure went crying to the government and the government replied with mortgage modifications earlier this year and after a short sigh of relief - guess what? They are defaulting again - Re-defaultingSurprising? Not surprising at all!"The results, I confess, were somewhat surprising, and not in a good way," … (6 comments)

Prelim November 2008 Home sale data - fewer agents Salt Lake City - 12/16/08 09:14 PM
We all knew the numbers are falling, but these numbers are surprising - they are prelim and from an un-named source. The hard numbers will be out in the next few days. The real numbers for Salt Lake County (988M pop) for Sept 08 were home and condo sales at 1010 and sales for Oct 08 at 820  - a drop of 18%. The Nov 08 numbers are looking like 539 or a drop of 35%. Following the natl trend, especially after the market slump in late Sept/early Oct. This mirrors the numbers in Atlanta and Charlotte and Austin.

Super Inspector in Coeur d' Alene - 12/16/08 03:28 PM
I talked to Teri Horton of Griffinspect Home Inspections in Coeur d' Lane today about Infrared Cameras. She is wanting to step up and buy an infrared camera. After spending the better part of an hour telling her all of the things that I have found with infrared (or would of missed with out one) and all of the horror stories of post inspection (after move in)problems discovered with homes being inspected the old "legacy" flashlight and naked eye method - she had to hang up and order her camera. So it looks like in a few weeks Idaho will have … (2 comments)

UDOT HOV pass "go fast lane for $1.66 a day" - 12/10/08 08:55 PM
I just renewed my UDOT HOV go fast pass for 2009. What a bargain at $50 a month, compared to other cities at hundreds of dollars a month. I can be in Davis county at 5:30pm and get back to Riverton in under 30 minutes and pass hundreds of cars stuck idling in traffic. Especially coming into snow season and all of the wrecks. It comes out to $1.66 per day. You save that in gas alone not to mention your time. What a great time mangement tool, ranks up there with the GPS. There is hardly anyone in that lane … (3 comments)

homeless deadbeats living in vacant homes - 12/09/08 06:26 PM
I had another home inspector friend get his car stolen in Sandy at an upscale 8,000ft home. He opened the garage and backed his car in the garage, then went inside to turn the heater on. Who ever was sleeping in the basement snuck out the basement exit and went thru the garage and drove off with his car. It makes you wonder what is going on in all of these vacant homes sitting empty.

Infrared cameras, energy audits and thermographic scans of homes - 12/09/08 06:16 PM
People must be opening their utility bills and after the shock subsides they begin looking for ways to reduce their Questar or Rocky Mountain Power bills. In the past few weeks my websites have been hammered with visitors, the like that I have never seen before. Doing my research into the keyword anaylsis and referring URLs - they are searching for: ways to cut my utility bills, or ways to save energy. Most of them are coming from people searching for information about having thermographic infrared imaging done on the inside of their home to see where the cold air is … (5 comments)
