Does Cold Snap in Houston = No More Hummingbirds Until Next Year? - 09/28/10 09:17 AM
Does Cold Snap in Houston = No More Hummingbirds? My coworkers know I love hummingbirds, and recently one of my colleagues brought in a video of the hummingbirds swarming around their feeder. I had thought it was too late to get any hummingbirds, but with the information from the people at work I thought I'd try, and so I put up a feeder. Well, I've had my feeder up for about 10 days. This morning we had a cold snap and now I haven't seen a hummingbird this morning at all. Has anyone in the Houston, Tomball or Magnolia area seen a hummingbird today? I

Love Horses?? - 09/25/10 05:18 PM
Love Horses?? Painted Horses Spotted in Vintage Park, Houston, TX -- Auction October 16th! Until October 16th you can see artists painting these life size horses. Some of the horses are babies. Very cute. There is no entry fee. If you have been to Anchorage, Seattle or some other cities in the West you are familiar with the artists decorating, bears, salmon, horses, buffalo or other animals and placing them at downtown street corners. In this picture, you can see the pictures on the far wall of the mock ups of the horses. This beauty has some great colors. This blue and green horse has a

$$$ Change Your Mindset To Save Money -- Change Your Overall Lifestyle!$$$ - 09/25/10 04:15 PM
Great Ways to Save Money -- Change Your Overall Lifestyle! I ran across a great article in MSN Money today, 6 Big Bold Ways to Go Frugal. Here is an overview of the article with my comments. 1. Get Rid of Your Car -- this is okay for those with access to mass transit or a bicycle, or if they live near their office or even better yet work from their home. 2. Take in a Renter -- the people in the article have had good experiences with this, and even paid off their houses in 15 vs. 30 years, but be

Hempstead Train at The Pavillion and Black Metal Artwork! - 09/23/10 05:27 PM
After a realtor meeting in August, I happened stumble upon this cute exhibit. It included a train and some black gates at a park pavillion near downtown Hempstead. Here is the left gate under the pavillion. Love the train motif on the gate. Here is the right gate. The detail work is lovely of the horses and cows. I can even see the top part of the horse harness that sticks up over the mane of the horse. I see a windmill as well. I also saw this lovely garden sign in Hempstead. Great little gazebo.

A View of the Sunset at Stonehenge Would Be Awesome Today -- The Autumn Equinox!! - 09/23/10 04:19 PM
Happy First Full Day of Autumn! The actual minute of end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn seems to be different with each different source, but my source said the change to Autumn for this year occured on September 22nd, 2010 at 11:13pm EST. Along with the change of seasons this year is a full Harvest Moon. The equinox is when the length of time for night and day are the same. It is also when the sun will rise directly to the east set directly to the west. I would love to be at Stonehenge today -- I believe the stones are arranged so

Construction Update at Lone Star College -- Tomball! - 09/22/10 11:36 AM
Construction update at Lone Star College -- Tomball! These pictures were taken during the week of September 20th, 2010. This picture was taken from the second floor of the Tomball College Community Library. This is a close up of the same picture. Can somebody tell me what the little box shaped pieces of steel are? Maybe to support large mechanical pieces? Here is a view from my real estate office which is across state highway 249 from the college. The view is obscured by the trees, but you can still see the left side of the building. Behind the little Lone

SOLD **30711 Roadie Pass, Magnolia, TX** - 09/22/10 11:02 AM
SOLD **30711 Roadie Pass, Magnolia, TX**. This great little house was in supurb condition and is now sold. It was diamond in the rough, just waiting for the right buyer. Luckily, I was able to negotiate successfully so it was a win-win situation for all parties. Here is a shot of the interior. There weren't even any holes in the walls from pictures. The house was so new that the previous owner had not had time to decorate like she wanted. When you are ready to sell your Tomball, Magnolia or Houston home, give me a call.

A Cheery Good Morning From a Morning Glory!! - 09/22/10 10:41 AM
Good Morning! Yesterday on my way to work I noticed some beautiful light purple morning glories blooming. Even at 65-70 miles per hour I knew they were morning glories because they were on the ground right next to the freeway, and also climbing on the trees and bushes that were planted along the overpass on state highway 249. It is amazing that the delicate flowers could tolerate such a large amount of exhaust from motor vehicles, but they seem to be thriving. Later in the day an open house I happened to notice the same color of morning glory, so I snapped a picture.

"The American", A Movie Review - 09/17/10 11:59 PM
The American, a movie review. I must start off this post by saying that the person beside me in the ticket line said he went to see this movie and ended up leaving the movie early and asking for his money back. That said, my expectations were low for the movie before it started. I have liked George Clooney since he was on ER back in the 90's. He has always exuded sensuality. The movie itself was calm, no screaming or shouting, but lots of bloodshed. If you are anti-gun, don't go see this movie. It is like James Bond with intense paranoia. He

My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- Mount Adams - 09/16/10 08:32 PM
My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- Mount Adams. A few miles north of Oregon is Trout Lake Washington. That is where we stopped at a ranger station and got this stamp. The National Parks service has a wonderful program where you can buy a National Parks Passport book (about $7 last time I looked) and stamp it with the date and sometimes wonderful pictures, like this one. The date stamp is similar to a postage cancellation and allows you to use it as a keepsake so you know when you visited certain locations. Wow, I just love this view of the mountain.

My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- The Bonneville Fish Hatchery! - 09/16/10 08:18 PM
My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- The Bonneville Fish Hatchery! This is undoubtedly the fanciest fish hatchery I have ever visited. It is arranged amongst beautiful gardens. And it also has a large enough area that walks through it could be considered great exercise. This is one of the ponds that has some of the smaller fish in it. I think they were small salmon or trout. I just couldn't resist taking a picture of this beautiful pom on this Hydrangea bush. What a beauty. Here is a picture of the map for a self guided tour of the Bonneville Hatchery.

My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- The Timberline Lodge! - 09/11/10 03:11 AM
My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- The Timberline Lodge! What a quaint lodge this is. When you enter the lodge, you feel like you have stepped back in time. It seems like something Teddy Roosevelt would have liked. There are heavy timbers and art deco fashioned lights in the common area of the lodge. There is a sturdy feel to this lodge. Here is a look at the front entrance to the lodge. Here is my chalet number 10. It had 8 bunk beds, the table and chairs, and a sink. What a great place to bring your family during

My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- Awesome Sunset Pictures at the Coast! - 09/11/10 02:45 AM
These sunset pictures were taken today off the coast of Oregon, near Indian Beach and south of there. The trees on this hillside seem to have been cleared. I like the effect the cloud has on the sun in this picture. It is not unusual to see a tree on a sea stack, but this one looks a little lonely. The lady in the picture was enjoying the last rays of the day. Love the pinks in the sky. Great cloud formations on the left and the ones on the right look like shimmering gold with

My Excellent Oregon Adventure -- Smith Rock State Park - 09/10/10 02:48 AM
When you visit Oregon, you really need to make time to go to Smith Rock State Park. The colors of the rock and the shapes are amazing. You will also probably see some people rock climbing. This is the sign at the entrance to the park. This is the view from one of the parking lots. The trail on the mountain across from the parking lot looks like fun. Another view from the same parking lot. There are some level hiking trails on this little peninsula. The two views above are on the river walk. I

My Oregon Adventure -- Bonneville Dam & Salmon Fish Ladder - 09/09/10 02:39 AM
I love going to dams and hydro electric facilities, but Bonneville dam also has the fish ladder so that was an added bonus. I was lucky that this lady and the children with her provide a scale so you can judge just how big this turbine really is. This is one of the exhibits on top of the visitors center. (We traveled to Cascade Locks later this day and took pictures of the bridge there). The fish ladder was really amazing. I had hoped to see more fish jumping from one section up to the other, but found out that

My Oregon Adventure -- Cool Airport Shots and Mount Hood - 09/09/10 01:50 AM
This Chick-fil-A cow was a very unexpected discovery in Terminal A near the Frontier Airline ticket counter at the Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH), also known as Bush Intercontinental Airport. Very clever!! This railroad track is at the Denver airport near the food court for departing planes. Across from the railroad tracks is this strange sculpture (can I call it that??) with a flat globe and four blue air pieces behind it -- they almost look like sleds with runners. Here is another picture of the flat globe. Here is a cute Frontier plane tail. It

Free Boat Ride -- The Galveston Ferry! - 09/08/10 03:01 AM
Free Fun on Galveston Island. Have you been to Galveston lately? Well the Ferry from Galveston Island to Boliver is the best deal on the island in terms of entertainment. It is a free boat trip -- and sometimes you can see dolphins swimming alongside the ferry. There are about three ferries in operation. The one in the picture has these great seats that you can sit on while riding the ferry. You can walk onto the ferry or drive your car onto the ferry. If you are a bird lover you will like the sea gulls, pelicans and other

Fire in the Hole -- Carino's in Bend, Oregon - 09/08/10 02:41 AM
Visit Carino's today for a wonderful meal you won't soon forget. They are about the friendliest group of restaurant staff I've had the pleasure to meet. Located in Bend Oregon, this great restaurant features Italian recipes for the whole family. The open concept kitchen is awesome. It is fun to watch the food being prepared. I think this is the (12 layer?) lasagna. I'm still full from my Chicken Scallopini that I got at Carino's or this would look really good to me. They decorate with these unique serving dishes. It adds a bit of color and old

Where did I take this picture? - 09/07/10 01:40 PM
Where did I take this picture? I was on vacation and was driving on the highway and happened upon a sign for this attraction. I could not resist turning around and driving there to take a look. Hint: It was associated with a President of the United States. It was not as big as I thought it would be, but I certainly recognized it when I saw it. Where am I?

Happy Anniversary Karen Sturdivent -- Perfect Red Roses - 09/03/10 01:39 AM
Happy Anniversary Karen Sturdivent. These perfect red roses were from her husband. I think she said she has been married for 25 or 26 years. She brought these flowers into the office because it was Friday and she did came to attend a "sell your gold party" and didn't want to leave the flowers in the car where they might have gotten hot in the blazing Texas afternoon. I think the first picture is one of the most perfect roses I have seen. The florist who put this bouquet together did a very nice job. See, another

Hurricane Ike Damage -- 2 Years Later! - 09/03/10 01:19 AM
Hurricane Ike Damage -- 2 Years Later! Don't underestimate the power of a hurricane. Please stock up on supplies for the hurricane season or know your evacuation route. This is on the Galveston seawall on the west end near 61st street. Obviously the building has not reopened for business. Several of the concrete pillars are missing, as well as the bottom floor of the business. This house is on the west end of Galveston Island near Bermuda beach. From the damage to the house, the main brunt of the storm was the front and left side of this house.

What Is This A Picture Of? - 09/02/10 03:00 AM
What is this a picture of? Obviously it is an aerial photo, you can see part of the left wing of the plane. Five years ago my husband and I went to Switzerland, and Rita hit the Gulf Coast at New Orleans. Two years ago we went to Yellowstone and Ike hit Galveston and Houston. Hope everyone on the Gulf Coast and the East Coast is prepared with supplies or evacuation routes. Take care and stay safe. I'll post the answer to the picture tomorrow night.

Are You Ready For A Hurricane? - 09/02/10 01:45 AM
Are you ready for a hurricane? September 1st through 15th is traditionally when hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast. These pictures were taken on Galveston Island the last weekend of August 2010, but show damage from hurricane Ike, which hit the Galveston coast in September of 2008. This house is in Spanish Grant, a subdivision on the west end of Galveston. This house is also on the west end of the island. This one looks like it is about ready to fall over. Wow, the roof really looks sad on this one. Now I can see why I
