california: Monday Musing- How do you answer "Where are you from?" - 08/03/09 02:49 PM
I had posted a picture a few weeks ago on my blog showing a beach and making it a game- where was this taken? I had several comments guessing North Carolina, because that's "where I'm from." The last person who used that quote "that's where I'm from" got me thinking- where am I really from? How do people answer that nowadays? Do you say "You're From" where you were born? Where you grew up? Where you spent many years as an adult? Or do you answer that "You're From" where you live now? What if you just moved in to your

california: Speechless Sunday- Guess where this was taken? - 07/12/09 07:47 PM
Okay, it's late on a hot Sunday evening here in North Carolina, so I'll make this easy. This will be a multiple choice question. Where do you think this picture was taken? 1. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 2. Ocracoke Island. North Carolina 3. Halifax, Nova Scotia 4. Talkeetna, Alaska 5. La Jolla, California I love beaches, and have been to every one listed here. So I was amazed, surprised, and delighted when I found this beach at Talkeetna, Alaska, at the merge of three rivers. Gorgeous day, gorgeous place. Wonderful memories. california: It's Not Just the Places you Go but the People You Meet - 09/28/08 09:30 AM
It's not always the places you go but the people you meet that make a vacation memorable. Just found out about the newest group- Vacations on Active Rain and have a short story to add about our latest vacation to Calaveras County California. We were there in June 2008 at the time the latest wildfires in California were breaking out. We drove to the town of Sutter, CA to visit Sutter's Ridge winery. It was already mid afternoon when we left Calaveras, and the drive was longer than we thought. The fires west of the area were causing a lot of pollution.

california: North Carolina & Nationwide Appreciation, + find your area! - 08/11/08 12:45 PM
Wwe all know the 3 magic words in real estate are location location and location. Lately "all real estate is local" is the newest slogan. However, what affects the rest of the country and the world affects everyone eventually, even the local real estate market. While some parts of the country were expericiencing double digit appreciation, we in North Carolina benefited because of increased migration from those areas, and the people bringing their equity in their homes to buy here. We were a little slower to catch on to the "bubble bursting" effect of the last 2 years in homes depreciation, but now

california: Former San Diegan missing the beach. - 07/11/08 11:21 AM
I'm becoming an Active Rain addict and recently found the AR groups for the San Diego area . As a former resident of 16 years in Lemon Grove, I'm missing the beach most of all this summer. The beaches here in North Carolina are nice, but there's not enough to do there. And it's a 2 hour drive just to get to Wilmington! As a Realtor in the Raleigh/ Cary North Carolina area, I'm meeting a great many newcomers from San Diego and California. In North Carolina we don't have license plates on the front of our cars, so people keep their plates

california: Never miss an opportunity to learn & network - 07/08/08 05:12 PM
Just came back from our summer vacation, this time to Northern California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. Even though we had lived in Southern California in San Diego for many years, raising children and working never gave us time to visit the northern part of the state. We were visiting at the time of the brush fires throughout the state, but the scenery at Yosemite was still magnificent. Luckily my friends and family are interested in real estate and houses as well as I am, because whereever we travel, I have to look at model homes, ads in the windows
