raleigh: I saved a fish today! - 06/09/10 04:26 PM
Yes, I saved a fish from the massive oil spill in the gulf coast today. Just how did I do that? I got my hair cut. Okay, so, how, you may ask, did getting my hair cut save a fish? Well, my favorite hair salon, Marigold Parlour in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it's owner Dustin Smith, are donating all of the hair they cut from their customers to the efforts to clean up the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Dustin told me today human hair is one of the best things available

raleigh: Raleigh & Durham earn 2 spots on the top cities to ride out the recession list! - 05/12/10 01:20 PM
As a real estate agent and homeowner in the Raleigh/ Durham area, I know we have experienced a slow down during the recession, as everyone else has. However, now there is some good news. On May 11, 2010 MainStreet.com has come out with a list of the top 20 cities in which to ride out the recession. Washington DC is number one, and of course that has a lot to do with the federal government hiring again. The great news for our area is that Durham NC came in as the 13th best city to ride out the recession, and Raleigh NC

raleigh: Carolina Hurricanes Fundraiser- my night of hobnobbing with the Rich & Famous - 03/16/10 01:01 PM
One thing I love about being a Realtor is that you never know what the day or the weekend will bring. On Saturday morning I thought I'd have all weekend to clean the house and work on the yard. But by Saturday evening I was writing a Offer to Purchase for a lovely lady in Cary until after 8pm. Upon waking up on Sunday, I thought I would busy myself with a little cleaning while I was waiting for the sellers reply to the offer. Then, out of the blue, one of my clients/ friends call me to invite me to a "formal" event

raleigh: 32 Valentine's Days in a Row! - 02/14/10 07:27 PM
Here's the beauty of being married to the same person for more than 30 years. He isn't disappointed when you're showing buyers homes until late on Friday and don't make it home in time to go to the play he has tickets for. He can take you to an auto show on Valentine's weekend, and tells you about the photo contest at the show to give you something interesting to do while he drools over the Jeeps and the trucks, You get to pick the place for dinner after the Auto Show, and choose

raleigh: Come in from the Cold, this is Winter in North Carolina - 01/25/10 04:28 PM
The 4 Seasons of North Carolina After a couple of weeks of unusually cold weather throughout the country, and in the South particularly, we here in Apex, North Carolina, had a few days of warm rain last week. And then, finally on Saturday, it was sunny, warm, and bright! You'd think we Southerner's had been trapped in the house for months. People were out with their kids, dogs, friends, and lovers, walking through the trails at the park and sitting on the benches enjoying the day. Yes, we do have winter in North Carolina. However, it's not the frigid cold, deep snow,

Special Financing on over 100 New Homes in the Raleigh area! One of the lenders that I work with at Capital Bank called me to let me know about some homes that Capital Bank has arranged special financing for. Although some of the homes are foreclosures, most of these homes are BRAND NEW Builder spec homes that need to be sold. Here's the situation: Because of the economic

raleigh: An Autumn Day in North Carolina, Lake Wheeler Park - 10/29/09 11:19 AM
A day at Lake Wheeler Park Lake Wheeler Park, part of the City of Raleigh parks system, was developed in the 1950's and has grown into a wonderful place for families and friends to share the outdoors. With many picnic tables and grills for free use for the public, as well as nature trails, fishing, and playgrounds, there is much to do here. History:Lake Wheeler serves as Raleigh's secondary auxiliary water supply, and this 800-acre lake park (650 acres of lake; 150 acres of park and land buffer) has rapidly become a favorite capital city getaway... . In 1958, Lake Wheeler was

raleigh: Silent Sunday- Lake Wheeler Park, Raleigh North Carolina - 10/25/09 01:38 PM
It's a bright, cloudy, cool, lovely fall day, the first weekend day since the leaves started to change that it's not raining. A perfect day for a walk in the park While the crowds are enjoying the last day of the State Fair, barely 5 miles away, my husband, granddog, and I were enjoying the peacefulness of Lake Wheeler. Not a sound was heard except the crunching of leaves under our feet as we walked. Even the swimming ducks were silent.

raleigh: Monday Musing- How do you answer "Where are you from?" - 08/03/09 02:49 PM
I had posted a picture a few weeks ago on my blog showing a beach and making it a game- where was this taken? I had several comments guessing North Carolina, because that's "where I'm from." The last person who used that quote "that's where I'm from" got me thinking- where am I really from? How do people answer that nowadays? Do you say "You're From" where you were born? Where you grew up? Where you spent many years as an adult? Or do you answer that "You're From" where you live now? What if you just moved in to your

The tree are just starting to bloom. And to make it even more perfect, I was visited by my deer family. There are actually 4 deer here, but 2 were lying down while these 2 stood guard about 30 feet from my back door where I was standing. I talk to them very softly and they'll just stand there and listen. My daughter

Right now in this Buyer's market , sellers need to know the value of staging their home. The pictures on the MLS and Internet are what attracts a buyer to even view your home. Notice the difference here as done by a professional home stager in California. If you're looking to sell your home, we can help! Make sure you hire a realtor that knows the value of staging your home. raleigh: My Favorite Bookstore in Town- There's One in Your Town too! - 02/04/09 05:59 PM
My favorite bookstore in town- there's one in your town too! No, it's not one of those big chain stores that sell coffee and atmosphere. It's not a cozy little hole in the wall place in the trendy college area of town. It's not one of those places where someone is singing & playing the guitar for atmosphere as in "Friends" Where am I talking about? The Thrift Store, of course In every size town there are usually at least a few thrift stores. In Raleigh, Cary & Apex, North Carolina, we have

raleigh: Really Late on Wordless Wednesday- Somewhere over the Rainbow - 01/28/09 10:10 PM
Several weeks ago in North Carolina we had a strange weather episode. About 5pm the sky got very dark, then a high wind picked up. Soon we had a torrential rain that lasted about 15 minutes. When the rain storm passed the sky turned a weird shade of yellow. I stepped out on my deck to see that sky and then spotted this beautiful rainbow that spanned the whole sky. Suddenly it turned into a double rainbow! You can't see it in this picture, but it was a full rainbow with 2 ends. Many people in the Apex & Raleigh area saw
