Several factors have increased the recent need of mother-in-law suites across the nation.  One in particular...Harsh economic conditions.  Many families have discovered that since its now difficult to make ends meet, it is advantageous to have multiple generations living together to hold onto their homes.
Another factor...the growing size of today's home.  In the 1950's the average home was just over 1,000 square feet.  Homes today are double that and even larger.  So this makes it easier for multiple families to dwell together without getting in each other's way.

I think this is great news for you the Seller and the Buyer.  There are very few people that know about this information although this plan has been in existence since 1975 when it was known as the circuit breaker plan for elderly homeowners.  The reason it was called the circuit breaker plan was that it shut off the property tax bill at a certain point much like an electric circuit breaker shuts off the current when the circuit becomes overloaded.
