Time to Get Your Green Chile! - 07/31/11 11:56 PM
Time to Get Your Green Chile!
My favorite story for this week is the report by KOB TV about the HATCH Green Chile.  If you are not familiar with the New Mexican tradition, this is the time of the year when you purchase and stack up your freezer with green chile for the rest of the year.  Hatch produces some of the best Chile and as we know there is a shortage so go on out and buy yours.  I'll see you at Chile Tradition...Montgomery and Wyoming.

New Mexico Fire Updates - Sunday July 31, 2011 - 07/31/11 11:38 PM

Life is good in New Mexico these days.  If you recall, the Los Conchas Fire, the State's largest fire,  started in the Jemez Mountain on June 26, 2011.  It was apparently started when a tree fell on a power line.  As of this past Wednesday, here is the latest stats. on the fire.
Fire is 95% Contained
The fire Burned over 244 square miles
Destroyed 63 homes
For all intents and purpose, it is fully contained.  Crews are mopping up the perimeter.
And as luck would have it...the weather is doing just great for the area.

9% Electric Rate Hike for New Mexico Residents
Another Rate Hike for New Mexico Residents courtesy of the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM). After 14 months of negotiation PNM agreed to the 9% rate hike, about half of what they had originally asked the Public Regulation Commission (PRC) for.  This comes at a time when residents are hurting, with the downturn in the economy.

General Motors...A Success Story and a Good Model - 07/31/11 06:42 PM
General Motors...A Success Story and a Good Model
In 2008 everyone all but write-off General Motors (GM).  The decibel level hit the roof, with all the voices against it, yet the OBAMA Administration went against the popular opinion and bailed out GM.  It was the darkest of times for the Auto-Maker.  So let me be clear on my position about the decision to bailout GM and the other American Auto-Makers, it was an AWESOME move.
Nearly 3 years to date, GM has come out of bankruptcy, re-organized, re-tooled,  and re-positioned as a powerhouse in the auto-manufacturing industry.  It is back … (3 comments)

Should Congress Dissolve itself? - 07/30/11 08:17 PM

I wonder what percentage of the american populous have a positive view of our congress? It is difficult to trust what they do because they all seem to be engaged in double-talk.
What get's  me is how they all seem to speak synchronously sometimes..."the job-creators," or "millionaires and billionaires."  The american people are no longer being representated.  Sad to say, but let's face it...that's a fact.  With the high court being stacked "Citizen United" basically closed the book on the american people.
Congress has failed itself so many times over.  When it's not gridlock, it's something else.  Let's look at a few...we did not … (9 comments)

The current debate on whether or not the debt ceiling should be raised shows a lack on understanding on many fronts.
Members of Congress
Members of the media
Some Americans
Let's address the members of congress first.  This should not be a political issue.  The interest of the USA is at stake here.  Maybe we should make it a requirement that everyone who runs for political office be required to take a course in Macro Economics.
Members of the Media are primarily focused on ratings, so they sometimes say the most outrageous things; … (6 comments)

Maceo Parker Rocks the House…Albuquerque SUMMERFEST, 2011
If you missed last night’s SUMMERFEST under the stars, you missed a great one… a little rain and a little wind could not dampen the spirits of at least 20,000 in attendance.  Saxophonist, Maceo Parker really rocked the house.  Now if you recall, he was a part of the Horn Section for the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. He also played with BOOTSIE COLLINS, FUNKADELIC, and PARLIAMENT. We were treated with a little of everything.
Judging by the turnout, the local businesses did great last night. I am already looking forward to SUMMERFEST, 2012.  Hopefully, organizers will … (6 comments)

America’s Default…a consequence of political folly!
As I surfed across the internet today, checking numerous News Sources…by far the biggest headline had to do with the political fiasco that’s going on in our nation’s Capital.  For the first time in its existence, this country is about to default on its obligations….if our country’s leadership does not come to an agreement.
Political affiliation aside, it bewilders me how this can happen.  Whether or not you are standing on principle…AMERICA should be your first concern.  There is no reason why we should ever default on our debt.  As a fiscal conservative, it is time to get our … (7 comments)

The Report Cards are in for New Mexico Schools and the outlook is very dire.  ABQ Journal Staff Writer, Hailey Heinz in her July 23, 2011 article basically laid it out on the table…”87% of NM’s Schools Get Failing Grade.”
Frankly, this is unacceptable.  There is no reason at this point to be consulting with the same bureaucracy to come up with solution for the same problem.  It’s time for new and bold ideas…like dissolving some of these school boards.  It seems to me that these bureaucracies are more self-serving … (10 comments)

We all wanted to see our USA Team as theb VICTORS, buy it wasn't to be.  After 120 minutes of playing time, the US failed to capitalize on the penalty kicks.  The Japanese took advantage and wrap it up 3-1 during the penalty round.  Congratulation to the Japanese. What is the true Purpose of doing Open Houses in Albuquerque, New Mexico
In a conversation with a Seller yesterday, I conveyed to her that an Open House in Albuquerque New Mexico serves to do but one thing..."it serves as a prospecting tool for real estate agents."  She almost lost her mind.  I told her that I would be willing to list her house, but I was unwilling to commit to doing an open house once per week until it is under contract.  Needless to say I walked away from that listing (subject of another blog), with a renewed sense of purpose.

Why should the U.S. consider nationalizing our banks? - 07/12/11 12:48 AM
Bryan Robertson, may be unto something here.  Banks are the cause of many of our economic problems.  Consider the current foreclosure crisis...think it's the the dishonest homeowners that caused them? Think again. A crisis of the magnitude we saw in 2008 is too sophisticated to have been caused by homeowners.  That was the biggest bank heist that happened right before our very eyes...yet nobody gets prosecuted.  See what Andrew Jackson had to say about Banks.

To all the diligent Dads out there - 07/03/11 08:14 PM
Today is the eve of American Independence and this blog caught my attention.  As a single dad of 16 years raising 2 boys it resonated.  It is seldom that fathers are on the frontlines when it comes to their children. All too often they have abdicated their role. I pledge, that I would break that cycle in my family.  I have two brothers, and they too have lived up to their roles as fathers.  It is very hard work to be parents...it takes commitment.  In the end...a tribute like Suzanne has so eloquently paid to her father speaks volumes , and … (0 comments)

Aristotle taught, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Good habits are our best friends. Because we perform them unconsciously, they free us to concentrate on other useful endeavors. On the other hand, the opposite is true for bad habits. This Homeowner Association (HOA) Went Too Far!

New Mexico Governor Suzanne Martinez Calls for short of a Statewide Ban on fireworks

Today, New Mexico's Governor Susana Martinez, appealed to residents and businesses to halt the use and sale of fireworks.  WALMART, SMITH, and ALBERTSON's stores have all taken fireworks from off their shelves.  This sould have happened a long time .  Frankly, there is no excuse for anyone to light anything outside; The situation is too volatile. Temperature is too high, humidity is too low...and there is fuel in abundance. A slight spark can prove to be very devastating.
Thus far in 2011, New Mexico … (10 comments)
