Many people would like to invest in real estate, but can't take on two separate mortgages.  Many people who don't have a retirement fund would like to own a rental and have that rental income, but can't take on another mortgage.  For these folks, buying a duplex or a home with a separate apartment may be the best possibility.  It's the best of two worlds, one mortgage and rental income, also.

   It was past due time. I have been living in Florida since 1990, have seen countless palms and still can name only a hand full.Well maybe a few more. I should care. After all I live in the "City of Palms" the nickname for Fort Myers. To be fair in the XIX century it was then known as "cow town" before Edison and Ford put it more on the map in the 1880's.    I was surprised to find out that Florida has been the location of quite a few famous movies and others where "cause celebre" and may be, for some, called the worst movies ever.            
Number one " Body Heat"- with William Hurt. AT the time quite cuting edge. 
NUmber 2- "Birdcage" the Miami comedy was hilarous
 Number 3  " Deap Throat" which I saw as a misguided kid and thought gross and not even erotic but made $300 million world wide.
Number4-Coccon " has to be up there as one of the great classics.

A bit of News, Good News, for Fort Myers and its Economy - 06/25/08 04:54 PM
City Furniture is opening four new stores in the Fort Myers area.  Two will open under the name of City Furniture and two will open under the name of Ashley Furniture.  Good news for Fort Myers.   But, four stores?  People must be buying a lot of furniture these days.    Well, the reasoning must be that if there are furniture stores in all areas of Fort Myers, then people won't have to spend much gas money to drive very far.

What Keeps Me Awake at Night - 06/24/08 06:22 PM
Mostly, Frasier.  The television show from the 90's.  Here on Fort Myers Beach, the show is on Channel 41 from 12:00 midnight to 1:00 AM.  Two Episodes.  Both my wife and I find the show hysterical.  It's great to relax with after a busy day. 

Sometimes, thoughts of a rough, fragile world also keep me up at night, but then, the world has always been rough and fragile.  In any event, midnight is the not the time to think of these thoughts.  Rather, it is the time for sleep, or if not sleep, then Frasier.

Why is a Garden and landscaping so Important when Selling a Home? - 06/23/08 10:06 AM
I often take the pooch for a walk after dinner.  While doing so, sometimes I take note of my own neighborhood on Fort Myers Beach and what I notice most is the landscaping and gardens.  A nice garden cannot help but catch the eye, which is why Sellers need to take note of what is catching the eyee of prospective Buyers when they get out of the car.

   This post was writen in response to Real Estate Agent Michelle Way of Jackson , MS " Short Sales ". I just had too much to discuss on the suggestion from a Loan Originator that a Real Estate Agent is the one who orders the appraisal in a short sale. I never heard of this in Southwest Florida in Fort Myers or Cape Coral

I'm off agiain today for showings.  A very nice lady from Canada and her teenaged daughter, who wants her mom to buy a place where Kayaking is an amenity.  Tennis, too. I showed her Luguna Lakes and Sail Harbour in Fort Myers yesterday.  She loved Laguna Lakes and the whole complex is NICE. 
 
 
Today we're off to Estero to check out Villagio and and Bella Terra.  If I have time, I'll bring them for a quick visit to Koreshan State Park where there is kayaking.

One of the benefits of living in Florida is, of course, cooking outside on the grill year round.  Here on Fort Myers Beach, we have two supermarkets to choose from for our grilling subjects if you don't want to leave the Island, a small but friendly neighborhood market, Topps, or the larger Publix.  Only three miles off the Bridge and the Island is Winn Dixie and Albertsons.

I was watching an old episode of "Frasier" the other night and enjoying the antics of Frasier and one of his girfriends in the show, a Realtor named Lorna.  Of all of the professions portrayed by actors and actresses on TV and in Film, there aren't many Realtors.  There's an abundance of police officers, doctors and lawyers.  There's waitresses and students.  But, I can't think of many Realtors.  There was Phyllis, the downstairs neighbor of Mary Richards in the Mary Tyler Meore Show, and, of course, Sheridan in Desperate Housewives, but I can't think of any others.  Perhaps I don't see … (3 comments)

Now is a good time to purchase a home or invest in a property on Fort Myers Beach, but it is the best now?  No. The best time would have been way back when, in the 1970's or even the 1990's.

. . . . . a garden in all seasons, trees full with leaves and blooms all year round.  My wife is into gardening.  I take care of the landscaping, which is no easy task, especially in summer.  If the lawn is not mowed at least once a week and the bushes trimmed regularly, we will soon be living in a jungle.
For those relocating to the area or to those just taking up gardening, I would strongly suggest that you stick to indiginous plants.  Northern flowers for the most part won't make it here.  And, roses are extremely difficult to maintain … (5 comments)

There was a rumor floating around the last few weeks, that the Boston Red Sox were going to change their spring training home from Fort Myers to Sarasota.  As I lived in Massachusetts for several years and my wife is from the Salem area of Massachusetts, I have become a big Red Sox fan over the past few years, even the lean years when it looked like they were never going to win it all.

I told my wife the night before that we had to visit three properties in San Carlos Park the next day, not just her rental. She does rental management. I had two new listings to inspect and install lockboxes. San Carlos Park is a an area of Fort Myers, Lee County, located between central Fort Myers and Estero and Bonita Springs.
