Investing on a Budget - 06/29/08 09:42 AM
Many people would like to invest in real estate, but can't take on two separate mortgages. Many people who don't have a retirement fund would like to own a rental and have that rental income, but can't take on another mortgage. For these folks, buying a duplex or a home with a separate apartment may be the best possibility. It's the best of two worlds, one mortgage and rental income, also. Below is a home located on the north end of Fort Myers Beach. There is a separate 1/1 apartment in the home with patio that may be rented out, either (3 comments)
Fort Myers the" City Of Palms" and what the heck is the name of that Palm? - 06/28/08 11:25 PM
It was past due time. I have been living in Florida since 1990, have seen countless palms and still can name only a hand full.Well maybe a few more. I should care. After all I live in the "City of Palms" the nickname for Fort Myers. To be fair in the XIX century it was then known as "cow town" before Edison and Ford put it more on the map in the 1880's. Much nicer name. So I should know a few names of palm trees. I don't know that many and haven't lost any sleep over it, but lately I had an epiphany. (3 comments)
I was surprised to find out that Florida has been the location of quite a few famous movies and others where "cause celebre" and may be, for some, called the worst movies ever. Number one " Body Heat"- with William Hurt. AT the time quite cuting edge. NUmber 2- "Birdcage" the Miami comedy was hilarous Number 3 " Deap Throat" which I saw as a misguided kid and thought gross and not even erotic but made $300 million world wide. Number4-Coccon " has to be up there as one of the great classics. NUmber 6- "Great Expectations" with Gwyneth Paltrow..but I think its (6 comments)

A bit of News, Good News, for Fort Myers and its Economy - 06/25/08 04:54 PM
City Furniture is opening four new stores in the Fort Myers area. Two will open under the name of City Furniture and two will open under the name of Ashley Furniture. Good news for Fort Myers. But, four stores? People must be buying a lot of furniture these days. Well, the reasoning must be that if there are furniture stores in all areas of Fort Myers, then people won't have to spend much gas money to drive very far.
What Keeps Me Awake at Night - 06/24/08 06:22 PM
Mostly, Frasier. The television show from the 90's. Here on Fort Myers Beach, the show is on Channel 41 from 12:00 midnight to 1:00 AM. Two Episodes. Both my wife and I find the show hysterical. It's great to relax with after a busy day.
Sometimes, thoughts of a rough, fragile world also keep me up at night, but then, the world has always been rough and fragile. In any event, midnight is the not the time to think of these thoughts. Rather, it is the time for sleep, or if not sleep, then Frasier.
Why is a Garden and landscaping so Important when Selling a Home? - 06/23/08 10:06 AM
I often take the pooch for a walk after dinner. While doing so, sometimes I take note of my own neighborhood on Fort Myers Beach and what I notice most is the landscaping and gardens. A nice garden cannot help but catch the eye, which is why Sellers need to take note of what is catching the eyee of prospective Buyers when they get out of the car. If you are a Seller and your home doesn't have much in the way of landscaping and flowers, then make that trip to the nursery. It will be worth it. For easy and relatively inexpensive landscaping, I would (4 comments)
- Livin La Vida Loca by the Gulf/Beach Home on Ft. Myers Beach $599,000 - 06/22/08 01:59 PM
No question, we are living the good life in in Southwest Florida. I can't even imagine going back up north and living most the year indoors because of cold weather. Below is the best deal for a single family home with gulf frontage on Fort Myers Beach. Third house from the Gulf with view of Gulf. A beach cottage. It's just been reduced by $50,000.00. The asking price is $599,000. The home is located on the desirable North End of Fort Myers Beach. 832 square foot/2 bedrooms and 2 baths.
Shorts Sales: who orders the Appraisal? - 06/20/08 12:11 PM
This post was writen in response to Real Estate Agent Michelle Way of Jackson , MS " Short Sales ". I just had too much to discuss on the suggestion from a Loan Originator that a Real Estate Agent is the one who orders the appraisal in a short sale. I never heard of this in Southwest Florida in Fort Myers or Cape Coral
Laguna Lakes Even if the seller is willing to pay for the appraisal it does not mean that the bank's appraisal will be the same. I think that this Loan Originator is just trying (1 comments)
Showing Ft. Myers and Estero, Including Koreshan State Park - 06/20/08 10:40 AM
I'm off agiain today for showings. A very nice lady from Canada and her teenaged daughter, who wants her mom to buy a place where Kayaking is an amenity. Tennis, too. I showed her Luguna Lakes and Sail Harbour in Fort Myers yesterday. She loved Laguna Lakes and the whole complex is NICE.
Today we're off to Estero to check out Villagio and and Bella Terra. If I have time, I'll bring them for a quick visit to Koreshan State Park where there is kayaking. Location: Corner of U.S. 41 and Corkscrew Road in Estero, Florida Located along the Estero River (1/2 mile (2 comments)
Dinner on the Grill Year Round - 06/19/08 06:42 PM
One of the benefits of living in Florida is, of course, cooking outside on the grill year round. Here on Fort Myers Beach, we have two supermarkets to choose from for our grilling subjects if you don't want to leave the Island, a small but friendly neighborhood market, Topps, or the larger Publix. Only three miles off the Bridge and the Island is Winn Dixie and Albertsons. On a hot summer night, there's nothing that tastes better than steak and corn on the cob cooked right on the grill. With a cool salad as a side. Maybe a scoop of ice cream (7 comments)
I'ven even old enough to have heard stories from my uncles and my brother-in-law, a few years older than me, about how Havlicek stole the ball.
Certainly, the spirits of these men and other men by the names of Russell and Auerbach, for instance, were in the hearts of the Celtics of today, led by the Team's Big Three, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. This new generation of Celtics is a pleasure to watch. Congrats, Celtics, (4 comments)
Fort Myers Beach home deals for investors and island lovers - 06/18/08 11:04 PM
Welcome to Fort Myers Beach! This island located along the Gulf Of Mexico some 26 miles north of Naples, 6 miles to the city limits of Fort Myers Beach also borders Bonita Springs in the South, is a special tropical island. You may want to frolic along its 7 miles of white sand beach, party along its numerous restaurants downtown or along Estero Blvd, play Golf or tennis, do some major boating or wander about along its Back Bay towards Sanibel or cape Coral, Fort Myers Beach has a lot to offer.

Fictional Realtors - 06/18/08 09:54 AM
I was watching an old episode of "Frasier" the other night and enjoying the antics of Frasier and one of his girfriends in the show, a Realtor named Lorna. Of all of the professions portrayed by actors and actresses on TV and in Film, there aren't many Realtors. There's an abundance of police officers, doctors and lawyers. There's waitresses and students. But, I can't think of many Realtors. There was Phyllis, the downstairs neighbor of Mary Richards in the Mary Tyler Meore Show, and, of course, Sheridan in Desperate Housewives, but I can't think of any others. Perhaps I don't see (3 comments)
Who Else is Blogging Besides Real Estate Agents - 06/17/08 12:35 PM
Blogging has become popular, no doubt about it. But, what kind of people blog? Real Estate agents blog and blog and blog and blog. Some young women have mistaken a blog for a diary. Would be Singers, Artists, Models, etc. are using blogs as an outlet to display their talent or lack thereof. Celebs have also taken to the blog, for example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alec-baldwin/ Alec Baldwin's blog is political in nature, i.e. mostly Alec's thoughts on the upcoming election and the candidates. http://www.kournikova.com/ Anna Kournikova, the tennis star, writes all about Anna, photos included in blogs. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/erica-jong/ Erica Jong's blog is politics and issue driven. 2008 U.S. Open/John Kennedy, Jr./Fort Myers Golf Courses - 06/15/08 12:04 PM
Tiger Woods was truly amazing yesterday, coming back from a double bogie to now leading the U.S. Open on the final day. Of course, the question is: How hurt is he? He was grimacing in pain when teeing off the last couple of holes yesterday. Davis Love III coming back from an injury and having to go through the rigors of qualifying, was also impressive, but fell back on the last nine and is currently at +4. Ernie Els, known as the Big Easy in tribute to his smooth golf swing and his laid back personality, may still make a run for (4 comments)
Mimi and her posse at the Bonita Springs Beach Dog Park - 06/13/08 11:36 PM
This was a big day For Mimi. Her first outing at Bonita Beach Dog Park. Driving from Fort Myers Beach towards Bonita Springs it's located just before The New Pass Bridge on your right hand, south of the Fort Myers Beach city limits. It's about one mile and a half South of Lover's Key. It's a Lee County Park and Recreation Facility and its free. It's a great place to let your dog or dogs let loose without leashes. Mimi just had a heck of a time frolicking with labs, terriers, bulldogs, poodles, Maltese, collies, sheep dogs and other proud mixed (12 comments)
Is Now Best Time to Invest on Ft. Myers Beach and Are There Short Sales? - 06/11/08 05:28 PM
Now is a good time to purchase a home or invest in a property on Fort Myers Beach, but it is the best now? No. The best time would have been way back when, in the 1970's or even the 1990's. I have clients calling me inquiring into short sales on the Island. Are there any short sales on Fort Myers Beach. There are, not a significant amount percentage wise, but a few. 19, to be exact. The lowest is listed at $229,00. In fact, there are two condos listed at $229,000, both short sales. On of these has almost 1000 square feet, (1 comments)
Another Great Thing About Fort Myers Beach is the Price of Gas - 06/11/08 02:35 PM
The gas prices need not matter greatly on Fort Myers Beach . . . . as long as you don't need to leave the Island, that is. Living on a seven mile island, a bike will do or just the legs, to get around. Then, there's always the trolley that travels thorugh the entire island all day long into the evening hours. You can rise in the morning and take that bike or walk or trolley to the Hevenly Biscuit for breakfast, to enjoy one of Heather's famous biscuit sandwiches on the patio, read the Island Sand Paper or talk with the locals that (0 comments)
The Great Swing State/Is Obama Buying A Short Sale on Ft. Myers Beach? - 06/10/08 08:30 PM
Shall we examine the recent history of elections in Florida? I think not. Do Floridians get too much Vitamin D, i.e. too much sun? Maybe. How will Florida vote in the upcoming presidential election? Will it be Obama or McCain? McCain is obviously more in touch with the people of Florida, generation wise, post baby boomers. But, Obama has recently announced his intent of purchasing a home on Fort Myers Beach. It is a short sale, and there's not many of these on Fort Myers Beach, but he's managed to find a gorgeous beach shack. If the sale goes thorugh (which is dependant upon the Bank's response (5 comments)
We all know that the deals are plentiful in Fort Myers but investors and buyers as a whole should take a closer look at the one of this prime area of Fort Myers. One of the Great Things About Florida is . . - 06/09/08 02:28 PM
. . . . . a garden in all seasons, trees full with leaves and blooms all year round. My wife is into gardening. I take care of the landscaping, which is no easy task, especially in summer. If the lawn is not mowed at least once a week and the bushes trimmed regularly, we will soon be living in a jungle. For those relocating to the area or to those just taking up gardening, I would strongly suggest that you stick to indiginous plants. Northern flowers for the most part won't make it here. And, roses are extremely difficult to maintain (5 comments)
The Red Sox of Fort Myers . . . . . and Boston - 06/09/08 12:25 PM
There was a rumor floating around the last few weeks, that the Boston Red Sox were going to change their spring training home from Fort Myers to Sarasota. As I lived in Massachusetts for several years and my wife is from the Salem area of Massachusetts, I have become a big Red Sox fan over the past few years, even the lean years when it looked like they were never going to win it all.
If this rumor was true, not only it be personally disappionting for me, but the City of Fort Myers, Lee County, would most certainly lose significant revenue. The Red (4 comments)
Just Another Sunday - 06/02/08 09:41 PM
I told my wife the night before that we had to visit three properties in San Carlos Park the next day, not just her rental. She does rental management. I had two new listings to inspect and install lockboxes. San Carlos Park is a an area of Fort Myers, Lee County, located between central Fort Myers and Estero and Bonita Springs. I checked in on her at a little past 11:00 pm. She was painting(a portrait, not the house) and on the TV was the rock group, R.E.M. being featured on Austin City Limits on the PBS station. They looked and sounded (4 comments)
