Justine Henin's hoped to win a Grand Slam title on her return from retirement, but Serena Williams dashed those hopes with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win in the Australian Open final today. This was Serena's 5th Australian Open Title and her 12th Grand Slam Singles Championship.
We need to be thankful for the William sisters, for there are no other American champions currently in tennis. There are no men in the Men's Final, hardly surprising. Roddick, although disappointing the last few years, holds the claim of being the last U.S. winner of a Grand Slam event; he won the 2003 U.S. Open final.

There's nothing like a soap opera, zings back and forth, to spice up the ratings. First, Jay said that it's the agents who are blame for the mess, not him and certainly not Conan. As the great cold snap of 2010 begins to dissipate and warmer termperatures begain to seep through, the main concern in Florida is crop damage: How widespread and severe?
Temperatures across northern Florida orchards dropped into the mid-20s on Saturday and Sunday nights. In central Florida, they hovered below freezing. For fruit damage to set in, temperatures must drop to 28 degrees for four hours or more. Anything below that for longer periods usually kills a tree. It's Raining Iguanas Outside in South Florida - 01/09/10 01:25 PM
Because of this long cold snap in Florida, large green lizards are falling out of the trees and lying on the ground. It's not fatal. The lizards aren't dead. They are simply cold, like the rest of us. When the weather returns to normal in a few days, they will come back to life. Their state is akin to suspended animation
These exotic igunas are originally from Central and South America. Most of them were household pets at one point and then wandered away or were taken to the wild by their owners when they got too big. They feed on vegetation.

When I woke up this morning and it was cold once again, I began to wonder if I'm even in Florida. Yes, we're used to the odd front drifing in, bringing a cool evening o two, but but not a week's worth, certainly not two week's worth. Our personal discomfort is nothing, of course, compared to the worries of the farmers. In central and south Florida, farmers are trying to salvage citrus and vegetable crops by spraying them in protective layers of ice and covering them in plastic.
