about florida: Our friend Bonnie's wild garden - 01/10/08 02:49 PM
Bonnie is a free spirit. We met her soon after we moved from Naples some nine years ago. She was raised in NY and her family relocated to Naples in the 70's. But Naples for all its beauty was not her style and she opted for the Old Florida life style of Fort Myers Beach some 25 years ago.It was pretty wild then. Now its party wild partly conservative.
Her garden shows part of that laiser faire attitude. No pesticides there.Every plant is let in its natural environment. Some years the bougainvilleas, banana trees, buttonwoods were so grown and palms where so high and … (10 comments)

about florida: Running for a Typical Short Sale Package - 12/21/07 01:07 PM

You are not alone opting for a short sale!
Some say they saw the writing on the wall. Its easy to say after the fact. Many owners in Fort Myers and Cape Coral and South West FLorida as a whole are hurting because they were lured by the Real Estate boom, got easy loans, and when the market went down, their equity went down with it and they are against the wall. It is now a fact of American life. There is no shame in doing a short sale. The trick is to be able to work with a lender … (9 comments)

about florida: "Sundance" 42' Yacht charters the Gulf of Mexico - 11/30/07 05:24 AM
I have known Captain David Richardson for over 8 years. He used to anchor his 42' yacht on the back bay not far from our home. His wife would walk our street in Fort Myers Beach to work with her cool mutt Rusty and my wife and her would exchange island news and talk about her dog as he is 15 years old.  What he really loves is sailing. He charters his yacht year long. This is Florida chartering at its best.It is his passion. He makes Fort Myers Beach sailing a smooth and laid back adventure. There is no rush with Captain … (6 comments)

about florida: Enough Already! - 11/26/07 08:25 AM

These days it seems that every hours we see negative posts or news about our Florida Real Estate market, not to mention the other 66 out of 150 major cities in the USA who also have seen a serious drop in price value and sales. Non members of AR and other Real Estate sites know the numbers. People are well aware of the market in Florida. The radios mention it, the local and national TV stations and newspapers mention it and many AR members go on and on, rain or shine, about how lousy the market is. Lets look at the larger picture.

about florida: Florida Cracker House meets the XXI century - 11/18/07 04:37 PM
As I was cruising along Estero island or Fort Myers Beach I saw a garage sell sign and it took me to a 2 hectares property which covers one whole block and ends up with its south side on a gulf access canal. It is indeed a Florida cracker house. These days we migth call them Beach cottage or Beach Bangalow. It has all the details of the pre-air conditioning architecture with the many windows, the board and batten structure,  the slopped front roof which covers the front porch and of course the chimney. The home dates from the 1930's and needs some work … (1 comments)

about florida: Florida Property Tax Amendment: Vote Yes! - 11/16/07 01:24 PM
The fight for a reformed Florida Property Tax started over a year ago. Governor Charlie Crist has been pushing a badly needed reform since the first quarter of his term. Cities, feeling the heat from national government cuts are mostly against it. Where is the money going to come from? I don't think it's a question of where is the money coming from. Its more of a question of greed.

about florida: Mailboxes fight for their place in the sun - 10/09/07 02:03 PM
While driving along the Historic District in Fort Myers, Lee County,  a few mailboxes caught my eye. Compare to the ones in Fort Myers Beach or along the famed Hickory blvd in Bonita Springs, where you might see a dolphin mailbox and next to it a formal black box with gold numbers on it, the Historic District has its own tune.
This red brick mail box with the slick steel opening stands out.But is it the right mailbox for that home?Luckily its home is quite grandiose and does not look out of proportion. Its solid for sure and says: "now … (8 comments)

about florida: Fort Myers Historic District is blossoming (slide) - 08/31/07 05:29 PM

In the last 5 years I have seen The Fort Myers Downtown Commercial District, also known as the Historic District and part of the newly called River District transformed into one of the great areas of South West Florida. The proud Royal Palms and landscaping  breaks Mc Gregor's center and side streets with grandiose beauty. It is after all called the City of Palms.   This pristine  area flows from Bay and Lee Street, Anderson and Monroe Street . nestled between the Caloosahatchee river and a few blocks Est of the famed Mc Gregor Blvd. Its center piece de resistance the Edison estate and … (4 comments)

about florida: Reggae party along the Beach (video) - 08/28/07 09:42 AM
This was taken a few weeks ago in front of the Gulf of Mexico at the Lanai Kai Hotel. Some visitors and residents took some time off to kick back and smell the roses. Many danced and it didn't matter if you didn't dance well. No problem here.Next time I'll try not to dance at the same time I film! This band kept this up beat style for most of the gig and also had to sing a few Bob Marley favorites like "redemption" and No woman No Cry" but most fo the time they just moved along in that intoxicating … (0 comments)

Naples is still buzzing. He had already by then acquired a reputation as one of the premier designers of golf courses in the world. He was the number one player oin the world for over 6 years. The Shark must know something about golf courses.I had to take a look. What stands out is the vision.Greg Norman's philosophy in designing these courses is to incorporate the golf courses with what the sites and nature offer. Anyway, so far its either a normal slide or B and W with effects...lol I am really testing this as its embedded and might just use the normal url...I hope you enjoy the walk! about florida: Martha Stewart KB homes have the right formula in a tough market - 07/22/07 02:03 PM
We all recall when the domestic goddess, business magnate, author, editor, K mart consultant with her own brand with Martha Living, her own show on tv was found guilty in 2004 for selling stocks and obstructing justice and lying to investigators about conveniently selling stocks just before they went down. She got 5 months which I thought a bit steep but she endured it and now KB homes flagship seller are the Martha Stewart KB Homes.
In a market which has seen KB Homes( #7 sales in US ) slump drastically with a drop of 20% in the first quater of 2007 , the homes which … (5 comments)

When I drive by Mound House,in Fort Myers Beach  Florida, which is a sort of old fashioned part frame part brick  2 story home with a length long arc-haded walk way on its first floor and its old world charm, I feel like a kid when we were sneaking at night with flash lights in old homes which were left by its owners for many years. The gate of the State Park called http://www.floridastateparks.org/moundkey/default.cfm also:

about florida: Old or New home in Fort Myers and The Beach. What is the best buy? - 06/12/07 03:20 PM
Why is this home a better buy? This is the question many of my investors ask. What is the best deal you can get for your buck in Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach Beach? You have seen the home. You have been there many times.Your partner and yourself agree that it has charm. The location is terrific. The landscaping is mature and exotic and there is plenty of shade under the grown royal palms. The Jasmin vine covers a whole corner of the picket fence and the fragrance swells your nostrils after the rain.
