The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, (The Stimulus Bill) is investing $6 billion in energy efficiency. Through 2010 homeowners will be able to claim a 30% tax credit when you make your home more energy efficient. The tax credit will be 30% of the purchase price for new furnaces, energy efficient windows and to insulate your home. Talk with your tax expert to find out what you need as proof when yourfile your taxes.

While I don't agree with many of the things in The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, (The Stimulus Bill). There is one part that will help those of you looking to buy your first home in 2009.  You are also considered a first time home buyer if you have not owned a home for at least 3 years.
Those who buy their first home between January 1, 2009 and November 30, 2009 can claim a tax credit of 10% of the purchase price up to $8,000 on their 2008 or 2009 income taxes.
