Addison Pacesetters (the 50+ group) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Beltline Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Ms. Betsy Sterns from the Recreation Department spoke to us.
Here are some interesting tidbits from her presentation:
Betsy has had some interesting jobs before coming to the Town of Addison. She served in the Air Force in Biloxi, helping to clean up after Hurricane Camille; worked in the food service industry; at a Petco store; and as an instructor for a special population program in Yuma, Arizona. She has been with the Town of Addison for the past 9 years.
Betsy's responsibilities include:
investigating if Addison Athletic Club members actually live in Addison (a requirement for continuing membership)
scheduling the Pavillion across from the AAC
overseeing the towel service
providing monthly reports to the Parks & Rec director and the town manager
filing membership paperwork
opening the AAC (5:30, most mornings)
testing the water in the pool
filling the magazine racks
keeping the coffee pots full
In her spare time, Betsy volunteers at Operation Kindness, a no-kill animal shelter.

OK, OK, I admit it! I'm a Yankee. And not a big fan of Mexican food. But.........
I've lived in North Texas for 30 years and every once in a while I get dragged to a Mexican restaurant by friends. Last night was one of those occasions. And I loved it!
Masaryk is a "Modern Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Lounge" at 5004 East Addison Circle, Addison Texas 75001. The food was fabulous! (Except the salsa dip for chips, which was a little too hot for my naive taste buds.) I had the Salmon Masaryk, a pan seared dish smothered with hearts of palm in a buerre blanc sauce, atop pepita pesto mash, with microgreens. My friend had the Pollo Agave, a pan seared chicken breast with sauza tequila and a chanterelle cream reduction, also with the pepita pesto mash and a garlicky spinach.
Chef/Proprietor Gabriel DeLeon stopped by the table despite a full crowd in the dining area and at the bar and visited with us.
If you are in the Addison Circle area, stop by and enjoy a fabulous dining experience at Masaryk. If you're not local, check out their website: www.modmexkitchen.com.

Addison Pacesetters (the 50+ group) meet the first Wednesay of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Beltline Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Mr. Chris McMurtry, Special Events Coordinator, spoke to us.
Here are some interesting tidbits from his presentation:
The schedule for the summer events has changed this year. Symphonic Saturdays will now be in June (too hot in July for the demographic audience). Summer Salsa will now be in August. July Jazz remains in July. So, all the concerts are on Saturday evenings. Cinema in the Circle, the outdoor movie events, will now be on Fridays. And, the theme this year is Summer of Spielberg. June 5th: Back to the Future; June 12th: The Goonies; June 19th: Jurassic Park; and June 26th: Jaws. Stay after the fireworks on July 3rd and watch Raiders of the Lost Ark and avoid the traffic!
Another special summer event is the outdoor production (in the Ellipse at Addison Circle Park) of Guys and Dolls on September 4th & 5th, 2009. The largest of the special events is, of course, the world-renowned Kaboom Town, held every July 3rd. There will be live entertainment from 5:00-9:30 pm. Radio station KRLD will simulcast with the flyover from the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, 7:15-9:15. JACK-FM will simulcast during the fireworks.
Best of all, most of these events are FREE! There is no charge for Cinema in the Circle, Symphonic Saturdays, Kaboom Town, July Jazz, or Summer Salsa. And some Addison Circle retailers and restaurants will serve up special discounts on event days.
Next month, July 1st is the first Wednesday. Come out and join us at Dunn Bros.

Ah, Addison! Not a city, but a "town." The Town of Addison. The best place to live and work in North Texas. There's something to be said about a place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Note the exclamation point in the town's name. Here you'll find the ruminations, rants and raves of one of the town's realtors and residents.
