Oops! Too late! - 12/29/08 07:36 PM
There is a new listing in my neighborhood.  It just came on the market last week.  I wasn't surprised that today's mail brought a "Just Listed" postcard from the listing agent, but the postcard also told me about the open house.  Unfortunately for the agent, the open house was yesterday!
This is not my listing, but if you are looking for a one-story, 3 bedroom 2 bath zero lot home in Addison Texas, call me!  Priced at $194,900 and there is a pool.  1480 sq ft.

Power Outage Darkens Addison - 12/22/08 08:00 PM
If you live in the Midway Meadows subdivision in Addison, Texas you were in the dark last night.  Electricity flickered on and off for about 5 minutes, starting at approximately 5:50 pm, then went completely off.  When I contacted the TXU "outage" phone line, I was told to expect the power to come back on within the hour.
There is not much you can do without electricity when it is dark outside.  No TV, no light for reading, no microwave.  No fun!
The power did not come back on at 7:00 pm.  Or 8:00 pm.  Those lucky enough to live on the … (4 comments)

"I am Addison!"  That's the theme and slogan for the 2009 Addison, Texas calendar.  Town employees delivered the calendars to home owners last week (in the cold and wet, thank you!) and if you didn't receive yours, there are some available at the Addison Athletic Club.
Of the 15 faces on the cover, I recognized three immediately.  They are starred (*) below.

Good News in Dallas Real Estate! - 12/20/08 10:24 AM
According to David Fair, attorney at Hexter Fair Title Company, there is a BIG difference between the Dallas economy & housing market and  the rest of the country.  The strong DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) economy is keeping our real estate prices up.
We have strong job creation here, continuing corporate and individual relocations, and a vibrant oil & gas industry (especially in the Barnett Shale which created 83k jobs in 2007 and generated $8.2 billion into the local economy).
In 2007 Dallas area created 230 net new jobs per day, and 472 net new residents per day.  Figures for 2008 are not yet in.

Dallas Area Real Estate Numbers Reveal Little Change in Sales Prices - 12/17/08 06:19 PM
Good news for the Dallas real estate market!  The average sales prices in the areas served by the MetroTex MLS are holding firm.  While the number of sales is down across the board and the average days on the market is up, the silver lining is the steady average sales prices.

I specialize in Addison but serve all the areas listed above!

Addison Telephone Survey - It's Not Who You Think is Calling! - 12/17/08 05:46 PM
Two nights ago, I received a phone call.  The polite young woman on the other end of the line asked if I had some time to answer questions about the Town of Addison.  Sure.  Why not?
I was asked my opinion on how the town is being run.  Could I name the Mayor?  Did I know the names of the council members?  If the May election were to be held now, how would I vote?  The woman asking the questions had potential match-ups.  Wait a minute, I told her.  Who exactly commissioned this survey?  She said she certainly did not have access … (8 comments)

The Day the Real Estate Market Stood Still... - 12/15/08 10:09 AM
Absolutely NOTHING happened in the Addison/Far North Dallas real estate world yesterday.  No new listings, no price changes, no homes under contract in option.
I have a link on my website, called Powerpage, that allows anyone to select an area of Dallas, choose the current date or any of the last five days, and then see what's happening.  Imagine my surprise when I checked this morning and found no activity on Sunday!

This is pretty scary stuff!  Having no activity in Addison is one thing.  We are a small community of approximately 15,000 residents, including apartment dwellers.  But nothing in all of … (5 comments)

Overheard at the Addison Athletic Club - 12/10/08 02:31 PM
Yesterday as I climbed the stairway to get to the treadmills, I overheard Paul ask B.L., "How do people find out about the Addison Athletic Club?"  I'm sure he was asking because not just the parking lot, but the whole club was fairly empty.  I pondered that as I walked my 2 miles.
This is my second time living in Addison.  Back in the eary 1980s, before the club was built, I learned about it because I volunteered to serve on the planning committee for the AAC.  My tenure was short-lived because I moved out of Addison before much happened and … (2 comments)

A Hospital in Addison? - 12/09/08 11:52 AM
At the November meeting of the Addison Town Council, Methodist Hospital applied for a special use permit to build a "special surgery" hospital in Addison.  Plans include either a 3-story or 5-story buidling to house inpatients and outpatients for orthopedic, spine and ENT surgery, an emergency room, imaging services, physical therapy and rehab, and a laboratory.  They anticipate having 32 beds for acute care and 4 beds for intensive care.  The developer is Nueterra Real Estate and the architect is BOKA Powell.  Keep your eye on the tract of land west of the Tollway and east of Addison Road, just south … (2 comments)

Blackberry Bold or iPhone? - 12/08/08 01:22 PM
My trusty old Motorola cell phone is on it's way to the electronic graveyard.  It has a cracked case, it randomly turns itself off, and it has seen better days.  I hate to give it up because of the Call Forwarding Cradle - when in this recharger/forwarding unit, it rings the phone in the house and doesn't use up my airtime minutes.  But the time is coming when the phone will just shut down and not reboot.  And they don't make phones that fit in the call forwarding cradle any longer.
So what's a girl to do?  When I first got … (10 comments)

Addison's New Animal Control Officer - 12/07/08 06:50 PM
Michelle Laurence, Animal Control Officer, spoke to the Addison Pacesetters at the monthly coffee klatch at Dunn Bros Coffee on Beltline Road last week.  She was entertaining and informative.  Topics ranged from bobcats to feral cats and from feeding the ducks in Les Lacs (please, don't) to walking cats on leashes (no leash law for cats, but keep your dog on the leash and the leash in your hand).  Michelle's position falls within the Public Works Department.  If your neighbor's dog barks at all hours, call her. If there are opposums, squirrels or other rodents on the loose, she's the one to contact.

Dennis Kraft, the Deputy Mayor Pro Tempore of Addison, Texas passed away last week due to complications from cancer.   Dennis was a warm, sincere public servant and he will be missed.  He was first elected to the Addison City Council in May 2005 and continued to serve on Council until his untimely death. Ah, Addison! Not a city, but a "town." The Town of Addison. The best place to live and work in North Texas. There's something to be said about a place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Note the exclamation point in the town's name. Here you'll find the ruminations, rants and raves of one of the town's realtors and residents.
