Peninsula Living: A short excursion to West Marin County - 02/24/10 09:06 AM
Wonderful, relaxing get away time for me this week.
After hiking Monday in the glorious sunshine on Mt. Tamalpais and Stinson Beach, my husband and I headed north to Point Reyes Station. Tuesday it rained all day, which allowed wonderful time to relax and enjoy our stay in the yurt, Windsong Cottage.   We chose not to hike in the rain (a departure from our normal habit!) but instead enjoyed the hot tub (fun in the rain!), getting caught up on sleep and having time for good conversation, a little yoga, and just "being."
We're ready to get out in the weather … (12 comments)

From Anthony Ebright, loan officer in Santa Rosa, California, comes this piece of good news for home buyers. It's oten tough in our high-cost area for buyers to have more than 5% down payment saved; now there's an option to restrictive FHA financing.

Peninsula Living: THE ANSWER: Who Can Name This Building? - 02/17/10 11:43 AM
Last week I posted my monthly game for readers of my newsletter and my Facebook Fan Page, "Who Can Name This Building?"
Of those who contacted me, 8 people had correct answers so were entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to one of our local businesses.
The Answer: Carrington Hall at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California
I learned from one of my callers, a music teacher whose husband had served for many years as the Superintendent of Schools in neighboring San Carlos, that the Hall was named after Dr. Carrington, a gifted musician and music teacher at … (4 comments)

Move Over America ! Move Over Law Now Enacted in 44 States and Effective Jan 1, 2010 in California - 02/08/10 10:12 AM

Our colleague, William Johnson of San Diego posted this recently. Even though I'm in California, I hadn't heard about this new driving law. Take a moment, read the post, and watch the short video. It's a great reminder for us all.

Speechless Sundays: San Francisco and today's Half-Marathon - 02/07/10 06:58 PM
A few words are necessary--today was the Kaiser Permanente Half-Marathon in San Francisco, California. As you can see, it was a gorgeous day, and a prettier venue is hard to imagine. While about 10 of my women runners, many from the Tattersol Running Group out of Stanford, and I enjoyed the run in Golden Gate Park and along the Great Highway, my husband Gene went on a hike. (San Francisco is a hiker's paradise--hills to conquer and lots of parks scattered throughout.
Here are a couple of shots he took:

IF YOU'RE A FIRST TIME BUYER & LOOKING FOR ADVICE .... READ THIS! - 02/06/10 05:37 PM

From a very wise lender in Illinois comes this great piece of advice for first time buyers. The points made are just as true here in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley as they are in Illinois or elsewhere.
While I know very few buyers who didn't need to tighten the belt a bit, especially during that all-important first year, one needs to do so in a thoughtful, considered way. Let me know if I can answer any buying or selling questions as they pertain to our San Francisco Peninsula market. The goal is to make Peninsula Living better!

Jump Right In! - 02/02/10 04:49 PM
I am a great procrastinator, but finally last week--finally--I  jumped right in and did something I had been putting off for months!
Now you might wonder, what was this huge, difficult task?

the one that kept spinning through my mind? the one I lost sleep over? the one that had to wait until it was perfect? the one that I wanted to do but was afraid? I'm almost ashamed to say -- it was the writing and posting of a market report!!!!
Now, I know that sounds silly, but there it was. I haven't (yet) mastered adding charts, wrapping words around my … (21 comments)

ATTENTION Home buyer: effect on your monthly payment when interest rate rises (maybe even up to 8%) by year end - 02/01/10 11:28 PM
From our colleague Pacita Dimacali across the Bay in Alameda, California comes this great post. It started with a report by Steve Harney, one of my favorite real estate analysers, and states in clear terms what we expect to see happening later in 2010--and the effect it will have on buyers.
Questions about how this might affect buyers in San Mateo County and Silicon Valley? Give me a call.

How are YOU Handling Sellers Who Want You To Over-price Their Homes? - 02/01/10 09:37 AM
My colleague in New York, Paula Hathaway, wrote this excellent explanation of the effect of overpricing a listing. The real estate market is different in 2009 and 2010 than it was in 2007, in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley as well as nationwide.  Even with our low inventory, we have many examples locally of properties that were overpriced initially, and not corrected quickly.
If you are thinking of selling your home, call me for details.
