Earth Day 2012 - 04/22/12 03:18 PM
Earth Day, 2012 Sunday, April 22, 2012 -- Earth Day. Did the various Earth Day activities in your area give you pause for thought? Perhaps you're ending the day with a renewed sense of appreciation for our physical world and the sometimes fragile beauty that surrounds us. Hopefully you were able to spend a bit a time enjoying a park, a beach, a mountain. Maybe you pitched in and helped clean up a river bank, planted a tree or flowers, pulled weeds from an Open Space preserve. Earth Day -- a time to reflect and make a pledge to ourselves to … (12 comments)

It's 5:00 O'clock somewhere! - 04/15/12 06:57 PM
It's 5:00 O'Clock Somewhere -- I'm sure of it So here it is, Sunday afternoon winding down. Most of the work of the day is finished. We've hiked to the Farmer's Market and to explore the walkways and staircases of the Embarcadero Center, properties have been investigated and clients contacted. Dinner will be soon -- fresh Chilean Sea Bass with Chinese Greens and boiled potatoes. I'm just going through the afternoon's emails, and came across this video, sent out my by friend, Ruthie.   This, as our friend Roger Mucci would say, calls for an adult beverage. Wishing you all a … (13 comments)

Pet Friendly Peninsula Open Spaces - 04/14/12 06:39 PM
Pet Friendly Peninsula Open Spaces Along the spine of the Peninsula, between San Francisco to San Jose and beyond, we're blessed with abundant open space, one of the reasons for the high cost of housing in our area, and one of the many benefits of living here. There are several close-in places that welcome dogs, so if you and your pet are in the need of exercise and fresh air, check out the Open Space Preserve web site to find areas that welcome your pet.
One of my favorite dog-friendly spots is Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve, located on Edmunds … (10 comments)

Lafayette Park has gone to the dogs - 04/13/12 11:02 AM
Lafayette Park has gone to the dogs -- literally! San Francisco has numerous neighborhood parks, and each has its own flavor. Lovely Lafayette Park sits atop a knoll high in the Pacific Heights neighborhood in San Francisco, with stunning views in all directions. A favorite spot for residents in the surrounding condos, apartments, homes and mansions -- and for their dogs.
The social scene at Lafayette Park is the dogs. Yes, there are 2 tennis courts and a small children's playground area. And one small fenced in grassy area is off limits to dogs. But the rest of the park is … (7 comments)

Who Let the Dogs Out! - 04/12/12 08:09 PM
Who Let The Dogs Out! San Francisco is a city that loves its pets! Yes, we love the Giants, too, and some of you will remember that song being played at AT&T Park many a time. But today, I'm talking about pets, dogs in particular.
According to the 2000 and 2005 census figures, there are about 120,000 dogs in the city and only 108,00-113,000 children! Some dogs are owned by retired folks, but not all. And that's where Who Let the Dogs Out comes into play. All those dogs need to be cared for while owners are at work. If … (19 comments)

Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great--Reason #9--City Hikes! - 04/07/12 02:40 PM
Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great - Reason #9--City Hikes!
Some people are surprised that as empty nesters my husband and I chose to move to San Francisco, especially when we both work on the Peninsula. After all, they reason, you like to hike. Well, that's perhaps one of the reasons we did move to San Francisco -- hiking in San Francisco is wonderful.

For example, last Monday I wrapped up work at 4:30, and headed out for a fast-paced 90 minute walk. After being at my computer all day, I wanted the challenge of some hills … (7 comments)

The Sound of Music-A Few of my Favorite Things - 04/06/12 10:43 AM
The Sound of Music makes my real estate business sweet
Being an avid hiker and lover of mountains, it's not a complete surprise that The Sound of Music is one of my favorite pictures. I've even had a couple of Sound of Music moments myself!

Think for a minute about some of the songs and how they relate to real estate:
A Few of My Favorite Things (more about this below) What Will This Day Be Like, I Wonder (how many times has our day completely changed around, often before 9:00 AM) There Must Have Been a Moment of … (25 comments)

Pet Project Contest - 04/02/12 08:14 AM
Mona Gersky has arranged a great contest for the month of April, one that is sure to appeal to many of us here on Active Rain, those of us with pets, and those without. Read all about it, and then plan to join in the fun.
Via Mona Gersky,GRI,ABR~MoonDancer Realty~ Western North Carolina (Buyer & Seller Representation):

As pet lovers and REALTORS, we have the dual advantage of much needed knowledge of resources to help our furry friends and the humans who love them. This seemed like an ideal combination to create the Pet Project Contest.
One of my favorite things … (6 comments)

Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great - Reason #8--ZIP CARS!! - 04/02/12 07:59 AM
Why Living in the San Francisco area is so great - Reason #8 -- Zipcars!I first learned about Zipcars when my daughter lived in Boston. Now I see them heading up and down the freeway between San Francisco and San Jose.
This is a great concept for urban dwellers who might not own a car. If you are walking, biking, riding a bus or taxi every day, your need for a car could be minimal. But what about the times when you truly need a car? To fill that void, in steps Zipcars and its local cousin, City Car Share. Located … (8 comments)
