Sometimes a bus/hike adventure to Marin County just seems like the right thing to do. A one-way hike let's one cover some ground, and taking the bus to a trail head is a nice alternative to driving. It's easy to do just that as we discovered on a recent weekend. The Golden Gate Transit runs busses from the Pacific Heights/Russian Hill/Nob Hill area of San Francisco to various spots in Marin. A Typical Evening Living in San Francisco - 06/29/12 05:38 AM
There's really no such thing as a typical evening in the life of a Realtor® ----...but last night might come close. After a long day's work, excitement isn't what my husband and I always want. Time to unwind; time to talk with each other; time for a bit of exercise, some good food, some laughter--that's the stuff a good evening is made of. So here's how our "typical" evening unfolded one night this week: 6:00-Gene arrived home after a grueling 2-hour traffic-snarled commute; I turned off my computer and ended the work day 6:30-we walked to the local CVS (less (4 comments)

International Space Station - when can you watch it zoom by? - 06/27/12 07:26 PM
When can you watch the International Space Station zoom by in your area? Check out the NASA Skywatch site, find your state, then a city or town close by. They give you latitude and longitude, so the engineers among you (like my husband, Gene!) can figure out where in the sky to find it. We looked on Monday evening from our condo window--had a great view. It was so much fun that Tuesday night we walked to the top of Russian Hill to see it again, higher in the sky this time. Such an awesome sight -- Space station overhead, the (12 comments)

.... so starts an old newspaper clipping from the now defunct Palo Alto Times Tribune, believed to have been published sometime in 1967. One owner is quoted in the article as saying she and her husband enjoyed being able to walk to a movie without worrying about parking their car, and that her husband would walk to the train for his commute to San Francisco. That owner moved to the Everett House after (4 comments)

A Place For Mom - a Great Resource for Seniors and their Families - 06/23/12 08:20 AM
Are you familiar with A Place for Mom? It's a great resource for Seniors and their families As a residential Realtor® working in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley, I enjoy working with Seniors. Perhaps it's because I feel close to my own mother when I do, or perhaps its because they are so appreciative of a bit of guidance and care. Whatever the reason, when I can make the selling of their present home go smoothly and well when it no longer is enjoyable or practical for them to live there, I feel tremendous satisfaction. Often the house has (11 comments)

Getting to Know The Mechanics Institute, San Francisco CA - 06/21/12 02:57 PM
Get Acquainted with The Mechanics Institute in San Francisco CA When I was a child, I would occasionally accompany my father on errands to San Francisco, and became acquainted with The Mechanics Institute, of which he was a member. My earliest memory of The Mechanics Institute is that I discovered I could shuffle my feet along the opague glass floors between stacks of books, and then shock myself by touching the brass handrail. I thought that was quite fun. Later, when I was in high school, it was the only library anywhere that I knew of open on Sunday (great for (6 comments)

Angel Cortez gives the WOW factor to homes in the San Carlos CA area - 06/18/12 07:15 AM
Giving the WOW factor to homes for sale in the San Carlos CA area: a shout-out to Angel Cortez, Angel's Gardening Service, Inc, 650-222-8989. Giving the WOW factor to homes for sale in the San Carlos CA area, as elsewhere, is super important, but it's not surprising that sellers who have lived in the house many years can't see that their house is a bit tired and in need of sprucing up.
One way that has been effective for me is to show them through pictures. I'll take a few photos of the house to include with a market (8 comments)

Like many of San Francisco's over 200 parks, it has been suffering from heavy use and time, and is in need of sprucing up. The time has come, and the plans for upgrading Lafayette Park are extensive. All Work and No Play - Recipe for Burnout - 06/09/12 04:04 PM
All work and no play is a sure recipe for burnout. As much as we might enjoy our work, we need to enjoy time off as well. For those of us living in California, a great place to recharge and refresh is Santa Barbara. Even the name is relaxing and enticing, isn't it? Located on the Central Coast, it's within day-trip range of the Los Angeles area, and an easy 2-day trip from the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francsico Neighborhood Parks - Tennis Anyone? - 06/08/12 06:48 AM
Tennis Anyone? One of the delights for most San Franciscans, myself included, are the many neighborhood parks. Scattered throughout the city, they come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny knoll-top areas, to sprawling parklands like Golden Gate Park and The Presidio, both of which encompass many, many arces of land.
Many of the parks have found space for tennis courts, like these Alice Marble Tennis Courts at Sterling Park on Russian Hill. At the top of this modest-size neighborhood park you'll find 4 tennis courts, plus a basketball court with a backboard handy for practicing tennis solo. (3 comments)

FAQ #10: Do You Like Living in San Francisco? Is it for me? - 06/03/12 09:00 AM
Since moving to San Francisco, I often hear, "Do you like living in San Francisco? What prompted you to move there? We've always thought we might like to do that, too." San Francisco, with its dynamic living and distinct neighborhoods is not far from San Carlos, where my office, Today Sotheby’s International Realty, is located. Many people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, in Alameda, Marin and Contra Costa counties, are expressing interest in urban living after spending happy, busy years in the suburbs.
