ca: Avatar's Punjabi Burrito, Mill Valley, CA-- - 03/02/11 11:40 AM
Avatar's Punjabi Burritos, Mill Valley, CA
Who says burritos must be Mexican? Not Avatar's Punjabi Burritos most definitely.

This is a wonderful find for hikers, mountain bikers, and everyone who loves tasty, filling food at a low price. Hiking is a favorite past-time of mine, and the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais are wonderful hiking areas. Hiking up and down hills and staircases for hours sure whets ones appetite, and Avatar's Punjabi Burritos was just the ticket for us last Sunday.

Inside Avator's Punjabi Burrito in Mill Valley you'll find three tiny tables; the outdoor sidewalk has a … (7 comments)

ca: Can You Wear Out a Blackberry by Talking Too Much? - 02/11/11 09:39 PM
Can you wear out a Blackberry by talking too much? That's what I wondered this morning as I forced myself out of bed after a l-o-o-n-g 2 weeks.
My Blackberry was fine when I plugged it in to recharge last night. I was too--running on adrenaline.
This morning, I was slow to start, didn't even consider going to my 5:40 AM exercise class, coffee took a long time to kick in. And my Blackberry? It wouldn't wake up at all! It reminded me of a teenager on a Monday morning after a weekend of partying!
After 3 days of almost … (17 comments)

ca: Another question: "How Quickly do we need to close the transaction?" - 01/29/11 12:20 AM
"How quickly do we need to close the transaction and provide the funds?"
This is another question my buyer has, and another great one. The second part of the answer is straightforward; the other not so.
Let's start with the easy part, the question about when funds must be paid. In most of our transactions here in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley areas of California, a buyer writes a check for 3% of the purchase price at the time an offer is made, made payable to the escrow company. I present a copy of the check along with the … (12 comments)

ca: I received a call on a Localism post--how exciting! - 01/15/11 02:07 PM
I received a call on one of my Localism posts -- how exciting!
At the beginning of every summer here on the semi-arid San Francisco Peninsula, mowing weeds to create a defensible fire buffer around homes is essential, and mandatory in areas of high wild-fire danger. One of the more creative ways used to accomplish this is with herds of goats, who eat the grasses down to low stubble.

Last May I wrote a post called, "Goats?? In Redwood City, CA?" It elicited a most unusual response from one person:
Caller: "Hello? I'm xxxxxxxxx and I recently bought a home with … (14 comments)

ca: Predictors of the 2011 Real Estate Market Show HOPE - 01/13/11 11:22 AM

Cindy Marchant has written a great piece about consumer confidence and her real estate predictiosn for 2011. Although she is located in Indiana and I'm on the San Francisco Peninsula, I echo her thoughts.
I'm definitely seeing increased consumer confidence -- it started here in the fall of 2010 and is continuing into 2011. People who have jobs are feeling confident that they will remain employed; they've used these past several years to rein in spending, save more, and reduce debt. Rents are rising. Now they're cautiously stepping back into the real estate market, ready to settle into a home … (5 comments)

ca: Take a Hike -- Pinnacles National Monument, San Benito County, CA - 11/09/10 11:48 AM
Take a Hike -- Pinnacles National Monument, San Benito County, CA Located about a 2-hour drive south of the mid-Peninsula and Silicon Valley, the Pinnacles National Monument makes a wonderful destination for hiking, exploring, and finding peace away from the hustle and bustle of our urban area.

Unlike the cool redwood forests typical of the Santa Cruz mountains, and our nearby grassy oak-studded coastal hills, the Pinnacles is inland, East of Highway 101, West of Highway 152. It is an arid land, with amazing rock formations so rugged that the road dead ends on either side of the park--it's … (8 comments)

ca: Real estate is selling on the mid-Peninsula and San Mateo County, CA - 11/03/10 05:24 PM
Real estate is selling on the mid-Peninsula in San Mateo County, California. Today was a banner day for me -- two transactions closed this morning! Yesterday I wrote about escrow closing on 2448 Coronet, Belmont, CA 94002; it recorded this morning, keys have been handed over, sign removal ordered, status changed in the multiple listing service. And my sellers are in the process of buying a gorgeous home in Tennessee! Also on record today is the sale of a home at 411 Luff Lane in Redwood Shores, CA. Redwood Shores is part of Redwood City, but a community unto itself--a newer development … (14 comments)

ca: Martin's Beach, San Mateo County, CA -- trying to find a buyer - 11/02/10 12:55 PM
Martin's Beach, on the San Mateo County coast south of San Francisco, California is a marvelous spot. About 50 little beach cottages cling to the bluffs. Since they sit on leased land, with only about 10 years left on the leases, they require a niche buyer. I've written several blog posts about Martin's Beach, and about my buyer  "Getting Ready to Enjoy Martin's Beach, CA." From those posts several people have contacted me. Last week I had a phone message from one potential buyer asking for more information. The phone number left for me didn't reach her.  I tried various area … (4 comments)

ca: Cool nights in San Mateo County, California --- Soup's On! - 10/27/10 08:46 AM
Cool, drizzly days are here in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley areas of California. And that means ----
Soup's On! I love making a pot of soup on a gray day, and one of my favorite guilt-free ones is a modification of a WeightWatcher classic -- no fat and plenty of yummy vegetables. Experiment with different combinations of vegetables and herbs, too. Ingredients: 1 cup sliced carrots 1/2 yellow onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, chopped finely 4 cups fat-free broth (I used chicken or vegetable broth) about 2 cuts shredded or diced green cabbage 1/2 cup green beans, … (11 comments)

ca: Keys Given to Buyers This Weekend - 10/11/10 12:08 AM
Yesterday was the morning for a happy task -- giving the keys to buyers of a lovely home. It was an especially sweet task since the escrow period had been fraught with tension, and the seller wasn't able to close or vacate on time. But, it's done and the buyers have moved in!

This home in the Willow Glen area of San Jose, California was listed on August 16 and sold 24 days later to my clients, who are relocating here from across the country. It had been beautifully upgraded, with remodeled kitchen and baths, surround sound in the … (18 comments)

ca: Rain Camp San Jose is Starting Now - 09/27/10 12:17 PM
Rain Camp San Jose is starting now! Rain camp San Jose is ready to go. Venue is delightful -- the Computer History Museum in Mt. Already I've met my AR buddy Chris Alston , as well as other Realtors in my community--and we haven't yet begun!

ca: Hiking at Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, Santa Clara County, CA - 09/23/10 12:33 AM
Hiking at Monte Bello Open Space Preserve As many of you know, hiking in the parks and open space preserves that abound in San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley is one of my great pleasures. It's a way for me to de-stress after a long day, stretch muscles that have sat too long, and breathe in the fresh air. One afternoon last week I enjoyed a hike at Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The trail head is located on Page Mill Road, about 1-1/2 miles east of Skyline Boulevard and 7 miles west of Interstate 280, and is a scenic … (21 comments)

ca: Goodbye to Tea Garden Springs - 09/15/10 10:33 AM
Goodbye to Tea Garden Springs Last Tuesday evening a message popped up in my in-box from my favorite day spa, Tea Garden Springs, in Mill Valley, California. Happily I opened it, expecting a copy of their monthly newsletter, or a note from the managing director, or perhaps a new photo for me to enjoy and use in my business (Blanche is generous like that.) It was a note from the director, but it was far from happy. After serving the community for 16 years, they had closed their doors forever that day, a victim of the current economy. It comes as … (10 comments)

ca: Tyler's Carlmont Nursery, Belmont, CA 94002 - 09/10/10 12:27 AM
Tyler's Carlmont Nursery, Belmont, CA 94002 On the San Francisco Peninsula today it seems there are fewer dedicated plant nurseries than in years gone by. One that has stayed the course is Tyler's Carlmont Nursery in Belmont, California. Located in the Carlmont Shopping Center, Carlmont Nursery has been a resource to the community for years -- they were here when I bought my first house in 1971; they were the ones I turned to for advice, plants, garden books and equipment; it was here I'd buy my bare root roses and learn what to do with them. 39 years later, shopping … (8 comments)

ca: A Hike on Mt. Tamalpais, Marin County, CA - 09/07/10 10:47 AM
A Hike on Mt. Tamalpais, Marin County, CA Labor Day weekend provided the opportunity to indulge in a full day hike, so off to one of our favorite hiking destinations we went - Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, CA We started the day's hike in downtown Mill Valley, a picturesque town set in the redwood trees, near the edge of San Francisco Bay, then headed up the incredibly steep Zig-Zag trail which brought us to the Panoramic Highway, midway up the mountain. A series of other trails lead to the almost equally steep Fern Creek trail which took us up to … (12 comments)

ca: Snapshot of the condo/townhouse market in Belmont, California 94002 - 09/05/10 10:40 AM
Snapshot of the condo/townhouse market in Belmont, California Real estate definitely is local, so here's what's going on in the condo/townhouse market in Belmont, California. Since the numbers of transactions are too low (1 closed sale in July, 2009) to be meaningful, we'll take a look at activity for the first six months of both 2010 and 2009. This market segment continue to be a challenge.Condominiums and townhomes:
Home inventory has increased. There were 17 condos or townhomes for sale in the first half of 2010; 12 for sale in the same period of 2009 Number of closed sales dropped. 8 … (8 comments)

ca: The Hidden Gem, Martin's Beach, California - 08/25/10 12:57 AM
Buying Property in a Hidden Gem -- Martin's Beach, California A few miles south of Half Moon Bay, in San Mateo County, California lies a hidden gem -- Martin's Beach. The rural land known as Martin's Beach is comprised of approximately 80 acres, set between the Cabrillo Highway (Highway One) and the Pacific Ocean. After having been owned by the same family for many years, last year this large parcel was sold for approximately $40,000,000. This sale was made subject to leases of approximately 50 small cottages which cling to the side of the bluff, just above the Pacific Ocean. The … (14 comments)

ca: Early morning beauty - San Mateo County, CA - 08/21/10 10:15 PM
Early morning beauty - San Mateo County, CA When days get busy--in the life of a Realtor or in most anyone's life--it's all the more important to step aside for a few minutes, still the mind, and be aware of the beauty that surrounds us. I snapped this picture with my BlackBerry while on an early morning run yesterday with my friend and colleague, Pooneh Fouladi. We've discovered that 7:00 AM is a lovely time at the Sawyer Camp Trail, not as crowded as it gets on a weekend or later in the morning, and the morning light is gorgeous.

ca: Condo in Mountain View, CA -- SOLD!! - 08/21/10 01:51 AM
