grace cathedral: Yoga at Grace Cathedral - amazing stories - 04/13/17 05:41 PM
One of the benefits of living where I do in San Francisco is that every Tuesday evening I can grab my yoga mat and walk to the top of Nob Hill, to Grace Cathedral, and join the 600-700 yogis who practice there each week.
One man I see most weeks is Charles Weinbar. In a wheelchair, he is an inspiration to anyone who might think, "I'm not in shape" or "I'm too old and stiff" or "I'm not as strong/lithe/limber as the 30-somethings who make up the majority of the attendees."

Watch his story as told to AARP, get inspired about what the human … (27 comments)

grace cathedral: Day 6 - thankful for living in a kind-hearted City - 11/20/16 03:57 PM
Today I've been feeling especially thankful to be living in a City that has heart, a City full of people ready to be a positive force of good.
I've written before about the yoga sessions that are offered, on a donation basis, at Grace Cathedral almost every Tuesday evening. These are attended by 500-600 people each week (no typo, five hundred to six hundred people). Donations are requested from those who can, and those who can't are welcomed just as warmly.
Last week many of these weekly participants came together for a special fund-raiser, Yoga for Change SF. Candle light Yoga was taught … (19 comments)

grace cathedral: Yoga for Change SF, 11/17/16 - 10/15/16 02:28 AM
On Thursday evening, November 17, 2016, you have the opportunity to be kind to yourself while helping others.
Yoga For Change SF is held at Grace Cathedral, located at the top of Nob Hill in San Francisco. Its purpose is two-fold:
raise funds to provide scholarships for students at The Community Preschool, also based at Grace Cathedral; and a chance to practice candlelight yoga for 90 minutes in beautiful surroundings with a like-minded community.
Now in its fourth year, Yoga for Change seeks to raise $30,000 to benefit The Community Preschool, Grace Cathedral. The Community Preschool provides scholarships to 2/3 of its … (3 comments)

grace cathedral: A Once-In-A-Lifetime San Francisco Experience - 02/29/16 09:14 AM
Have you ever said to yourself, "if only I could ______________"?
Thanks to a company aptly named If Only I had an opportunity for just such an experience, one of those once-in-a-lifetime adventures -- a tour of the catwalks and the bell tower at Grace Cathedral at the top of Nob Hill.
Four of us took part in the adventure, my husband and I, a daughter and my son-in-law. We were greeted by the Verger of Grace Cathedral, Charles Shipley III, who gave us a tour of the Cathedral, explaining many of the paintings, stained glass windows, construction of the building itself, … (40 comments)

grace cathedral: Reflect and Regroup - 01/17/14 12:06 AM
Paul Henderson's recent post about the Light Within and and his stained glass window picture made me think of beautiful Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill in San Francisco. Light catches on the ribbons streaming down from the high ceiling, bringing a sense of that light from within.

When walking over Nob Hill, take a moment to pop into Grace Cathedral. Surrounded by its quiet beauty, one can enjoy a respite from a busy world and re-kindle the light within.

grace cathedral: Exploring San Francisco with a pre-teen - 11/25/13 06:55 AM
Exploring a city with a pre-teen can be a lot of fun -- especially when you find new places to go, new experiences to share.
This last weekend our almost -12-year-old granddaughter joined us in San Francisco. Yesterday we had a couple of free hours, so decided to:
1. Take a cable car ride to the top of Nob Hill! We left our condo and walked the 4 short blocks to California and Van Ness, hopped aboard and rode the cable car to the top. Necessary? No, we could easily walk. Worth it? Yes -- the adventure had begun.

2. … (7 comments)
