palo alto: Thanksgiving has past, but it's still autumn - 12/02/16 09:31 AM
While autumn will officially be with us for another couple of weeks, Christmas decorations are popping up all over town. I figured I had best post one more picture of autumn before we say goodbye to my favorite season for another year.
The gorgeous tree in the first photo is in front of a house in Menlo Park, and is one of many that shrieked to me "take my picture" when I was out on tour this past Tuesday. Palo Alto residential streets are gorgeous with yellow Ginkgoes and red Liquid Ambers. The brilliant orange-red of Chinese Pistache trees is seen all over Los … (18 comments)

palo alto: My Visual Treat-Almost Wordless Wednesday - 11/18/15 01:52 PM
As some of you know, I've been laid up this past week after emergency surgery in Mexico.
Today was my first day behind the wheel, and I planned my journey from San Francisco to Palo Alto to avoid the worst of the traffic.
I happily turned the corner on a residential street in Palo Alto, anticipating the beauty I'd see -- I wasn't disappointed. Even through a less-than-sparkling-clean windshield, you can see why I look forward to coming to my clients' house.

palo alto: Silicon Valley -median sales prices since 2010 - 05/23/15 05:24 AM
The Silicon Valley has a booming real estate market at present, but is this a new phenomenon?
That's a question I often hear. I know from being in the trenches, representing buyers and sellers, that the market is strong, but let's take a look just how strong it is in four of the Silicon Valley towns where I work, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Cupertino.
We'll look today at median sale prices for single family homes from 2010 through April, 2015. These statistics come from MLS Listings, our multiple listing service.
Starting North to South, we first have: Palo Alto
Next comes: Mountain … (7 comments)

palo alto: Where are home values increasing fastest? - 02/25/15 01:06 AM
Where in the United States are home values increasing the fastest? Using data from Zillow, NerdWallet.com has compiled a top-20 list of cities.
The Top 10 are of great interest to me; they are all clustered around two areas of the country, my Silicon Valley area of California  and the Miami, Florida area.
Take a look at their chart:

In the Silicon Valley we have 7 of the top 10:
#1 - Palo Alto #3 - Cupertino #4 - Mountain View #5 - Sunnyvale #6 - Redwood City #8 - Menlo Park #9 - Foster City Other Peninsula towns … (12 comments)

palo alto: Let's Go For A Bike Ride! - 02/08/15 12:18 AM
Yesterday, I had a hour between showing property in Mountain View and hosting an open house in San Carlos, so drove back roads between the two towns.
My meanderings took me by the Palo Alto Baylands, where I stopped to eat my lunch, wishing I had time to run on the baylands trails as I used to do quite often. Some of the trails are paved and are often used for biking to Google, Intuit and other high tech firms.
Enjoy! my favorite biker from yesterday

palo alto: How's the real estate market doing on the Peninsula and Silicon Valley? - 10/24/11 04:18 PM
How's the real estate market doing on the Peninsula and in Silicon Valley? That's a common question, and people really want to know. The word is finally getting out that real estate really IS local. As you can see from the charts below, single-family homes are selling, the average days on market are not long, and they sell quite close to the asking price.
The Silicon Valley cities of Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Cupertino are especially strong - high tech is growing. Things are a bit slower in the San Mateo County cities of Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood … (6 comments)

palo alto: Price points for 4-bedroom homes in the Silicon Valley - 07/12/11 04:58 AM
Price points for 4-bedroom homes in the Silicon ValleyYesterday I was contacted by a referral partner whose client will be relocating to the Mountain View - Palo Alto area of California -- in other words, to the Silicon Valley. Until I talk directly with the party moving here, there's no telling which of our communities might be the best fit. A little initial research for homes with at least 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, came up with the following bits of information, which gives a snapshot of housing in our area: All of these communities have good schools, and are within a … (4 comments)

palo alto: Happy Turkeys-California Style! - 11/25/10 08:09 AM
Happy Turkeys-California Style!
San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley are great places to live, as is the entire San Francisco Bay Area. These turkeys likely agree--especially since they aren't in an oven somewhere!
This majestic fellow was strutting around near Rodeo Beach in Marin County when we were hiking in the area recently.
And this flock looked to be enjoying the beauty and majesty of Monte Bello Open Space Preserve in the hills above Palo Alto.
These birds might not have had a official White House pardon, but hanging out in our parklands is a wise choice--for turkeys as well … (10 comments)

palo alto: Wordless Wednesday:Jalopy in the Woods - 04/28/10 02:56 AM
When hiking along the trails in some of our steep canyons, one occasionally rounds the bend and comes across a remnant of the past that makes you pause and reflect for a moment. This old car is right off the Peter's Loop Trail in Portola Redwoods State Park in San Mateo County. So close to the urban areas of the Peninsula like Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City, yet eons away in feel. … (15 comments)
