walking: Glimpses of San Francisco - Yellow! - 04/24/19 08:43 PM
Many people have heard that the distinct neighborhoods of San Francisco provide much of the charm of The City. For a REALTOR like me who loves to walk, I catch glimpses that often would pass by someone riding in Uber, Lyft, or driving themselves.
Recently I have been struck by the beautiful colors I see as I walk to and from appointments, as I walk to my office, bank, shopping errands, and as I walk for the sheer joy of walking.
Perhaps it's because we've had a couple of unseasonably warm spring days this week, but today I'm thinking YELLOW!

walking: A San Francisco "good-bye" to 2017 - 01/01/18 10:59 AM
While much of the country is keeping warm indoors, we're fortunate to be able to enjoy being out and about (much to Tanner's delight as well as ours.)
Playing in the bay at Crissy Field is Tanner's first choice for a great outing, and we enjoyed doing just that a couple of days ago.
However, on New Year's Eve day we enjoyed a 5-mile walk through Golden Gate Park, out to Ocean Beach near the Cliff House and meandered back to our car.
This is one reason we pay the big bucks to live here! Our houses tend to be small, and very expensive -- … (16 comments)

walking: Tanner at The Candy Store - 01/15/17 09:16 AM
I'm fortunate to have Rachael and her wonderful Golden Retriever, Tanner, living a few short blocks away from us.
Tanner is lucky that I love to walk, and if I'm not running a lot of errands or shopping, I often take him along on my explorations.
One recent afternoon, after the rains had stopped for a while, we took a fast walk down Franklin Street to Lombard Street On the way back up Van Ness Avenue I decided to pop into my favorite candy store: The Candy Store on Vallejo Street where I occasionally treat myself to licorice!
The best assortment of licorice … (20 comments)

walking: How to be a safe pedestrian in San Francisco - 01/10/17 05:36 PM
Living in San Francisco is often exciting and delightful, especially for those who move here from the suburbs. If you live in one of the northeast neighborhoods of The City - think North Beach, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow, the Marina - one can often opt for a car-less lifestyle. Public transportation on major arterial streets is reliable, ZipCar, Citishare, Uber and Lyft offer ride services when needed.
A big part of the car-less lifestyle is we walk more, which for most of us is a healthy, natural choice - we walk to our favorite mom-and-pop stores, walk … (19 comments)

walking: It happened again yesterday.....twice - 06/10/16 07:08 AM
If you have read many of my posts, you know how much I enjoy living and walking in San Francisco. The urban lifestyle, complete with doing my errand running and most of my shopping on foot is delightful.
However, it happened again yesterday....twice in fact, within a matter of blocks from my home, and my heart is saddened.
Two accidents between moving vehicles and pedestrians, one fatal. At approximate 10:45 yesterday morning, a bright sunny day, a paratransit vehicle struck and killed a woman who had just exited the bus. She was crossing with street in front of the bus, with her walker, … (16 comments)

walking: Living in San Francisco: being a Pedestrian in The City - 01/14/16 04:19 AM
In San Francisco, as elsewhere in California, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing a street.
Even though this law is upheld vigorously in San Francisco, accidents between pedestrians/motor vehicles and between pedestrians/bicycles occur all too often.
Remember, pedestrians don't fare well in a collision!
As you walk to restaurants, movies, shopping, etc, you can increase your safety by following these simple tips:
follow the traffic lights and don't start crossing a major street when the pedestrian countdown has begun always look for cars making turns onto the street you are planning to cross--too often drivers are looking for a break … (7 comments)

walking: An Eclectic Saturday - 10/25/15 04:09 AM
Saturday was the type of day I enjoy the most, a balanced mix of work, fun, exercise, music and good food. How could that not be a great day?
The morning was spent at my computer, scheduling appointments and other tasks relating to a new listing. Bringing a property to market here is like choreographing a ballet--chaotic and time-consuming at first, but the joys of seeing it come together are exhilarating. Phone calls were made; emails sent and received, loose ends tied up.
By Noon it was time for my husband and I to head out. Our first stop was at Studio Gallery … (8 comments)

walking: Baker Beach, San Francisco, on a hot day - 07/20/15 03:50 AM
We're having wonderful weather in San Francisco. Some days end with the fog coming in, cooling us off. Mornings can start foggy, with sun arriving in various neighborhoods at different times. When moving to San Francisco, knowing which areas are more sunny, which tend to be foggier, is important. Not everyone loves the fog, although many do. Just one more point to consider.
Yesterday dawned clear; then high clouds covered the sky for a few hours. Fog was nowhere to be seen. By mid-day, skies were blue and temperatures were rising.
Our afternoon hike, from Lands' End near the Cliff House across town … (21 comments)

walking: What to do while waiting for "that" call... - 07/10/15 01:53 PM
I'm sure I can speak for most Realtors® when I say that sometimes we sit and wait for a call from a client. We know it's coming, and when clients are thoughtful like mine are, they often give me a heads up when to expect it.
Yesterday afternoon was one of those times. When a last-minute glitch arose, my buyers let me know they wouldn't have the answer they were awaiting for several hours. We needed to wait to prepare and submit their purchase offer.
So, what to do?
Knowing I didn't have to sit at my computer, the three of us (my husband, … (44 comments)

walking: A Room with a View - San Francisco style - 04/11/15 03:46 PM
Perhaps it was the view out the window at St. Mary's Hospital that inspired me, perhaps it was the 12-minute bus wait (I'm not the most patient person), or perhaps it was because I was in dire need of some fresh air and exercise - but when I left this evening I had a delightful walk home.
From the room one looks down onto Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle; Sutro Forest is the tree-covered knoll behind the University of California Medical Center; the Sutro Tower and Twin Peaks beckon one, and off to the left (out of camera range) woodsy Buena … (9 comments)

walking: When darkness comes early ..... - 03/07/15 12:13 AM

This weekend California, like much of the country, switches to daylight savings time. Soon, evening walks in San Francisco will have more daylight and the views will look quite different. I'll  be able to safely enjoy the many staircases on Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill in Pacific Heights. (My favorite staircases aren't lit as well as the sidewalks, so I avoid them once darkness falls.)

walking: Exploring CreekSide Park in Mountain View, CA - 05/12/09 01:54 AM
My favourite thing to do is to walk and hike in the beautiful parks surrounding me. I have discovered another amazing park that is great for the whole family. It includes a children's playground and trails just waiting to be explored. Have a look at the video I took of Creekside Park in Mountain View .
This park is beside a property I have up For Sale, 181 Ada Ave.  www.181AdaAvenue42.com
