twitter: Unfriending is Trending - People leaving Facebook - 05/16/10 03:53 PM
All periods in life come to an end and with it, behaviors associated with it.
The facebook craze seems to be running out of steam. Like the trite expressions scribbled in a high school yearbook, however earnestly meant, "friend4ever" "don't ever change", any one over 25 knows these statements have a limited life span.
It seems now after at least four years of mainstream use and acceptance of facebook, twitter and the like, the social media era is coming to, if not a close, a crossroads.
More than two years ago I wrote The failed promise of Real estate 2.0 or … (2 comments)

twitter: Talking at Cross Purposes on Twitter - 03/19/09 12:12 PM
What do you think of people who have thousands of followers on twitter? Are they connecting better than you?
Do their followers really follow them? Are the mega twitterites getting any business from their prodigious followings?
I recently posted "I agree to talk while you are talking" in an attempt to answer some of these questions.
Please take a look and provide thoughts here or on the HomeGain blog.

twitter: Not enough Twitter? - 01/26/09 07:19 AM
Last week I wrote about the problem of "Too much Twitter". It drew a lot of comments from veteran twitterites who have thousands of followers and who also follow thousands.
But what about most of us who have too few followers? Is it possible to have too few?  Are you getting the maximum value from twitteer if you limit yourself to just a handful of people that  you know and a few others?
I have 70+followers and I follow under 50. This is all very manageable.
Its easy to have followers. You tweet and your followers either read it or don't. Hit or … (8 comments)

twitter: Too Much Twitter? - 01/23/09 09:47 AM
I recently twitted this:
"If everyone follows 2000 people and everyone has 2000 followers no one can follow anyone."
This observation came from speaking with Pat Kitano who has almost 9500 followers and is "following" nearly the same number.
If you have 9500 followers, like Mr. Kitano, or even 2000 followers and you make it a practice as Pat does to follow everyone who follows you, you can't keep up.
Well, if you can't keep up, it follows (no pun intended), your followers can't either.
So, you may have thousands of people tweeting at cross purpose.
If everyone is similarly situated with … (14 comments)

twitter: Is "Innovation" just about technology? - 12/20/08 09:20 AM
Too often I am seeing people associate innovation solely with technology. Innovation is a frame of mind, a way of doing things, or perhaps a corporate culture. Innovation for innovation sake that does not achieve an objective is a waste of time.
Companies that add new "innovative" features that few use or use effectively are spinning their wheels. They may get press or blog mentions, but if the features don't add to the company's bottom line or further some other worthy objective like customer satisfaction, they are near worthless.
Similarly, individuals rush to get on the latest technology so  that they can consider … (9 comments)

twitter: To Twitter or Blog? Active Drizzle Anyone? - 11/28/08 09:48 PM
As Twitter takes off in some circles, many of its adherents are abandoning blogging in favor of a "micro blogging" format. A micro blogger fires off short bursts of information (or "tweets")instead of carefully constructing blog posts.
On the HomeGain blog, Pat Kitano suggested to members of the HomeGain Agent Blogging Network who subscribe to AgentView to engage in more of a micro blogging style. (so far it doesn't look like any one has taken him up on it.)
You can read more on the micro blogging point of view on "AgentView Advice"
