For those of you who love all the Thanksgiving fare and want to make some tummy room for that turkey with all the trimmings - here's your chance to work off those calories in advance by joining Rockland Road Runners in their 5 mile Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. Now, in its 20th year, it's become the largest running event in Rockland County, NY and attracts people from all over the NY metro area as well as Rockland. The Jewish War Veterans together with the Town of Ramapo, Rockland County, NY is sponsoring their annual event - a concert to Salute Our Veterans. I received an email today that was sent out by the Town of Ramapo, NY to alert residents about bears that were sighted in the neighborhood and what to do in case you see one. Of coarse I thought nothing much of it, until I happened home at around 4:00 this afternoon and saw several police cars in my neighbors drive.

As part of the festival and corresponding with the 150th anniversary of the Civil war, it will be showing the documentary film Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray.

The end of October brought with it the first snowfall of the season. I think mother nature got her seasons mixed up and a touch of winter arrived before fall was well underway. The trees which hadn't yet shed its leaves had a tough time withstanding the weight of the 6-7 inches of wet snow and though we've weathered storms with 3 times that amount of snow, the fallen trees, limbs, and wires from this one reeked havoc all over the county and tens of thousands were without power for days.
