For those of you who didn't make it to closing by June 30th - on time for the original homebuyer tax credit deadline, here's some good and welcome news. The closing date deadline has been extended. Via Elizabeth Veilleux (Ballenger Realty): Congress has passed a bill extending the Homebuyer Tax Credit closingdeadline from June 30, 2010 to September 30, 2010. The extension appliesonly to transactions that had ratified contracts in place as of April 30,2010, and have not yet closed. Additionally, Congress has extended the National Flood Insurance Program(NFIP) through September 30th. The bill is retroactive and will cover thelapse

For all those new and repeat buyers who had hoped to cash in on the Federal Tax credit that are still awaiting clearance to close and hoping to make it before the deadline of June 30th, you'll be happy to know that there's still hope for an extension. Via Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company Realtors): Inman News has just reported that the House of Representatives has passed a stand alone bill that would extend the settlement deadline on the $8000 Federal tax credit for first time homebuyers. Homebuyers Tax Credit - Major Modifications Old vs. New (edit/delete) Yesterday, the House voted to approve the extension and expansion of the homebuyer tax credit. The legislation was part of a piece of legislation that extended unemployment benefits as well. The legislation extends the availability of the tax credit to purchases on or before April 30, 2010. Home Buyers must be in contract by April 30, 2010 and will have an additional 60 days to close and complete the transaction. The New Homebuyer Tax Credit will remain $8,000 for first-time buyers, but previous homeowners or current homeowners who purchase between December 1, 2009 and

By now I'm sure we're all confused about the modifications in the First Time Homebuyers tax credit - Old verses New.
