The ferry between Molokai and Maui is increasing its one-way fare to $68.40 the increase was due to the rising cost of fuel. The last fare increase was in 1995, and since then the price of diesel fuel has risen to $4.40 from $1 a gallon. spokesman at the sea link have been quoted saying "We can't take the losses any longer," "If the tariff doesn't pass, we shut down."

After pain staking hours days, weeks and years, writing, mixing editing and composing. This Maui Magic Due has released their life blood and hard work efforts. I had the blessing to watch, feel and listen to the new music at a release party at Be Happy http://www.behappypaia.com/ (a new local music and art store) in Paia, run by none other then our own lovely Lisa Alo.

Dorthy and Les are unique to me, a soul mate team that smile and brim with joy. You can feel the Mana when they play. The first time I met Les; and had a conversation with him, it ran from absurd (Politics to Aliens) to completely absurd, I knew then he is one of us, A Musician. Something I missed about touring, the long drives (Drive On) the conversations, debates and prolific word tossing.

It's been just about a year since I met them, I have enjoyed their music and friendship ever since.

In these times of disappointment, economical hardship and WAR we can always escape with entertainment and music. Please by any means visit their web site, listen to their art and unwind. Drive On and enjoy life.

Dorthy and Les have been playing with Vince Esquire at the "Hana Hou Cafe" in Haiku every Wednesday night .... http://www.hanahoucafe.com/ This is a great place to get introduced to their music and have some ono grindz.

Vince Esquire (virtuoso guitarist) plays on this CD and Gary Kubota of Star-Bulletin's Maui writer contirbute lyrics with "Hitchhike Highway" The songs are available for download at betzandadam.com Check em out Aloha ha ha

Malcolm and Lynn Shiroma have built a thriving family-oriented karaoke business and are preparing a strategic expansion to the neighbor islands and mainland over the next five years. The husband-and-wife team, who anticipate gross sales to exceed $1 million this year from Krazy Karaoke, are looking at franchising opportunities, which is expected to take the company to the next level.

The couple have found a niche in the competitive karaoke market, focusing on children's parties, baby showers and birthdays at their two locations at the Pearl Kai Shopping Center and on Young Street. The Shiromas also juggle a second career in real estate, operating Property Center Inc. -- a sales and property management company -- from the second floor of the Young Street location.

Hawaii foreclosures rank low on Foreclosures

Hawaii ranked No. 42 in the nation, as compared to the four highest states.

California (Properties with Foreclosure Filings): 64,683

Florida: 35,264

Arizona: 11,620

Nevada: 7,276 Is buying a foreclosure a good deal?

Compared to what? Compared to a market that is priced right and a knowledgeable Realtor who knows their inventory. There are many properties that have no balance owed that are for sale. Mom and Pops who can sell for less down size and move on for much less then a foreclosure.

Short sales can be good yet the work and time involved are going to vary.

I was told that all the inventory and amount of work on Hawaii short sales to date June 1st 2008 will take the rest of 2009 to finish and close. Thats not accounting for whats coming through from July to December 2008. It's just a matter of our economy and riding out the debt owed until it comes to a decent balance.

Also coming up in May is the annual International Festival of Canoes on Maui and the 50th State Fair at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

Many of our residents have already enjoyed our low fares and the convenience of packing their coolers, surfboards, kayaks, and pets in their own car and visiting ‘ohana on other islands.

Additionally, local farmers and businesses have benefited from a more convenient and cost-effective method to move their products and equipment.

We remain committed to offering Hawai‘i residents an affordable inter-island transportation alternative. Seeing our islands from the sea is a great experience that should not be missed!

We look forward to welcoming you aboard the Alakai soon, and from all of us here at Hawaii Superferry, we sincerely thank you for your continued support.

Aloha,

John L.
Where are we heading these days, the islands of Hawaii, this current time of economical dismay, the war, the rich, the poor, the homeless, the needy, the ultra rich and greedy. Just a few headlines I have scored, today this morning 8 am. the inconvenience of a power outage this was like a drill, sort practice of things to come.
A measure designed to expand the venues in which licensed tattoo artists can work will have its final committee hearing in the Hawaii Senate Committee on Ways and Means on Friday.

House Bill 2283 was drafted by a group of tattoo artists, with the help of state Rep. John Mizuno, D-Ft. Shafter-Alewa Heights, who wanted to stage Hawaii's first-ever tattoo convention called Hawaii Inked.

State law requires that all tattoos must be done by a licensed tattoo artist in a permitted shop, in effect prohibiting any type of tattoo trade show or convention from taking place in Hawaii.

The group is pushing for legislation that would create an exception to the law. The original measure proposed allowing the state Department of Health to issue 14-day certificates of registration to tattoo artists to do their work in an educational or trade show setting. Their intent is to promote the emerging tattoo business in Hawaii as well as educate people on its cultural history and related health and safety issues.

However, the latest version of HB 2283 repeals the original tattoo artist licensure procedures on the books and instead would require all tattoo artists to register with the state Department of Health every year for a fee. Initial registration would cost $75 and annual renewals would be $7.50.

It's a change that concerns both the tattoo artists and Mizuno, who say registration would actually soften Hawaii's stringent licensing standards, which is not what they want.

"It's almost like a one-size-fits-all thing," Mizuno said. "You don't have as much oversight with just registration and there's an unintended consequence that there may be unqualified artists practicing. So, where's the oversight?"
