greenville: Will Our Trees Live Or Die? - 07/15/08 02:28 AM
This is a post for any tree experts out there...
We dug out two trees from my sister-in-law's land up in Tryon, NC and brought them home to Greenville and planted them.
As we drove them slowly down HWY 14, the trees suffered wind damage to their leaves. We did not have that cheese cloth stuff to wrap around the canopy to protect the leaves. We bagged the bottom with the roots and dirt.
We planted them that evening in our yard and mixed in a little growth fertilizer in the dirt. We watered them and have watered them quite a … (0 comments)

greenville: Almost There! - 07/15/08 02:10 AM
OK, this is to be filed under that cute little button that says "off topic - humor" as an Active Rain post.
You've been warned that this is "off topic - humor"....
I've got 4 boys. Finally, my youngest is nearly potty-trained! This is a big deal for a parent for three reasons:
1: We can soon save something like $35 a month on diapers!
2: I can finally be done with changing poopy diapers at home, at church, in the car, at the mall, in the restaurant, at the bookstore....you get the picture!
3: It may seem silly to say … (1 comments)

greenville: Heath Ledger - A Sad Loss! - 07/15/08 02:02 AM
I just read an article on Foxnews.com that said that Heath Ledger's parents watched the movie premier for the Dark Knight. They approved of the movie and they were very pleased with their son's performance. They said that Heath absolutely cherished the opportunity to contribute his vision of what this character could be on film. The article also mentioned how painful it was for his family to sit through the movie and be reminded of the loss of their son. How incredibly sad! I couldn't imagine the untimely loss of a son and then watching him perform on the big screen … (0 comments)

greenville: Greenville's Weather - 07/14/08 04:36 PM

I could be lucky, I guess, but I have yet to experience any summer heat and humidity that would make me go running for the nearest snow capped mountain! So far, it hasn’t been anything as remotely extreme as some of the people I’ve spoken to would like me to believe. Am I wrong? Have we had it easy here last summer and this summer? I’m waiting, but nothing so far has been able to scare me away! I’ve been in much hotter weather and I’ve been in much more humid weather! So far, it has been pretty decent weather … (0 comments)

greenville: Free Trees! - 07/14/08 02:21 PM

I’m not sure as to why all of a sudden it is happening, but we’ve got little baby trees sprouting up in our front shrubs area in front of our house. Of course, some birds may have dropped some seeds, but all of sudden, we’ve got at least 4 baby trees sprouting up and growing fast. They appear to be some variety of Maple trees. We love it because they’re much needed on our property! We’ll replant them around our lot, and be sure to water them. After having spent a lot of money to buy Sugar Maple trees last … (0 comments)

greenville: Carpet or Hardwoods? - 07/12/08 05:25 PM
Given the chance, would you finish your entire first floor in your home with hardwood flooring or quality laminate hardwood versus partial or full carpet?
We keep thinking it's getting silly trying to keep our carpet clean, and perhaps it's time to do something different.
We used to need the carpet for our babies to be comfortable and safe on when crawling around and playing. Now, our kids are running around the house like crazy! No need for carpet, just to appease any babies crawling around!
Certainly, even with hardwoods, we would have some nice space rugs.
Is it overkill to … (6 comments)

greenville: Active Rain Points - Do They Really Matter? - 07/12/08 05:02 PM
What's with the Active Rain points thing?
I see you can rank higher and higher, but does it really matter? Is it making a difference in the lives of Active Rainers?
I mean, if people find me by accident via a google search...regardless of my "points". and I can gain business from it...I guess it doesn't really matter about the points, right?
Or, do people visit the site and then only look at the top people on the first page for the city they're researching?

greenville: Summer Seems to Drag Along For The Parents! - 07/12/08 05:00 PM
I'm so happy for my kids to be enjoying their summer. They've earned it after doing so well this past school year.
However, it is so much work! I'm going non-stop! Every day we are off to the pool. We're running errands, we're shopping, etc. etc.
Let's face it, it's much easier to get all the errands out of the way while the kids are in school!
I hate to say it, but the parents need a break from summer break!

greenville: The Coffee Underground - A Very Cool Discovery in Downtown Greenville! - 07/12/08 04:56 PM
Tonight I finally decided to go down and explore a place I had walked past many times before, while walking Main street in downtown Greenville.
I say "go down" because it was down the steps, to the basement level and I believe the name of the place is the "Coffee Underground" or something like that.
How cool is this place? It's awesome! I loved it! It reminded me of the charming, warm coffee shops I used to frequent while living in San Francisco.
Also, it seems it wouldn't end! One long room, then another room for breakfat and brunch and then … (0 comments)

greenville: Shakespeare In The Park! How Cool Is That? - 07/12/08 04:49 PM
I was downtown with the whole family tonight and we walked down to Falls Park. To my surprise there was a "Shakespeare In The Park" production going on and quite a large audience spread out on the lawn enjoying the show.
It was very well done, too! Excellent stage and prop production and wonderful acting from the cast!
What can I say, except that it makes me proud to live here in Greenville where you can go downtown on a Friday night and enjoy such a quality production and entertainment for free!

greenville: Beautiful Night In Downtown Greenville! - 07/12/08 04:39 PM
It was another beautiful night in downtown Greenville tonight. There's nothing like a pleasant walk down Main Street. I think we've got the cleanest, safest most friendly downtown area of any major city in the country (arguably).
Maybe I am naive, but if we've got violent crime in our city I sure as heck don't see it anywhere near Main Street, downtown. Everything just seems too perfect!
I love to people-watch and take notice of the fact that there are families walking around with their kids, young couples, adult couples are frequently dressed up for a nice dinner, etc.
I really … (0 comments)

greenville: This is Really Great, Free Technology! - 07/12/08 04:20 PM
I am so amazed at how wonderful this Active Rain environment is and how easy it is to utilize.
Best of all...it's FREE!
What did any of us do to deserve this powerful, free environment that enables us to learn from others, network and hopefully gain clients?
It is also impressive that we can create this "body of work" and then allow it to be copied to or exist as a mirror image on the Localism.com website.
This is good stuff and I'm looking forward to leveraging it as much as possible!
