The Magic of Georgia's Lake Burton - 02/17/09 11:31 AM

The MAGIC of LAKE BURTON
Day dreaming while riding in a boat on Lake Burton, it's easy to forget the troubles that plague your life. Comfort is inevitably found in the gentle rocking motion of the vessel and the sound of lapping waves as you stare into the robin's egg blue sky and watch the Red Tail hawks and an occasional bald eagle soar overhead.
Life on Lake Burton is simple, yet sophisticated.  The mix of lifestyles is evident as are the variations of architectural styles of both the homes and the boat houses.  While some houses are large and … (0 comments)

Lake Burton - A well kept secret - 02/17/09 11:09 AM
The New York Times recently referred to Georgia's 'mountain-lakes' area as 'the Hamptons of Atlanta".  Rabun County, Georgia - "Where Spring spends the Summer" - is unique in that while the area can be accessed in under two hours from any part of metro Atlanta, Asheville, Greenville, Gainesville or Athens, these mountain lakes are still a well-kept secret.  The three lakes in Rabun County are Lakes Burton, Seed and Rabun.  All three were built in the early 1900s by Georgia Power and remain three of the most pristine lakes in the United States.  Fed by the Talulah River and numerous smaller tributaries … (1 comments)

From 15th to Featured - in 4 days!! You can do it, too!! - 02/15/09 04:36 PM
The past four days have been quite a ride.
When they say 'ACTIVE Rain', the operative word is definitely - ACTIVE!!
Four days ago - quite by accident - I stumbled upon a site named Localism.com.  There were two featured agents there for our area and neither of them was ME!  How could that be?
I immediately tried to sign up for the site.  A message came back, "We are taking no new registrations."  That pretty much freaked me out.  What do you mean... not taking registrations?  EVERY site in the world wants new members.  Just who are these people and … (11 comments)

The Ever-lasting Closing Gift!!! - 02/14/09 03:12 PM
Okay, 'fess up.  What is the real reason you give a closing gift to a buyer?
Is it because you like the buyer?
Or is it because you hope they will send you referral business?
Maybe it's a little of both, but one thing is for certain.  If you don't give a gift with 'staying power', there is little reason to give a gift.
It's all about making sure they remember your name.  Not just next week or next month, but two years or five years from now, when they are asked what Realtor they would recommend.
Over the years, I've heard … (8 comments)

Love Always - It's Valentine's Day! - 02/14/09 06:09 AM
It's early in the morning as I write this and my head is filled with memories of Saturday, February 14, 1976.  It was my father's 50th birthday.
Our family had always celebrated Valentine's Day in a special way, probably because it was Dad's birthday, too, but my elementary school years were a time when we made Valentine Boxes out of discarded cigar boxes begged from the local mercantile.  Covered with fancy paper, lacey cutouts made from doilies and sprinkled liberally with glitter, I'd never seen anything prettier.
And the joy of finding a Valentine in that box from every child in the … (4 comments)

Helpful Tip for Remembering a Name - 02/13/09 06:13 PM
Have you ever been introduced to someone and only minutes or even seconds later you couldn't come up with the person's name if someone put a gun to your head?   It's bad enough to have this happen during a social occasion, but when your mnd goes blank when you are working with a prospect, that's REALLY embarrassing!  Not to mention tough on the rapport you are trying to establish.
How can you keep this from happening?
1.  When you are introduced, repeat the person's name.  "Amanda, it is very nice to meet you and Michael."
2.  Repeat it again,  "You … (18 comments)

The Price Is Right...Or Is It?? Agent Open House Tip - 02/13/09 10:35 AM
There is so much information available on the Active Rain blogs.  It's just about mind boggling ( that's boggling - not bloggling).
I've been reading and reading in the hope of finding something I could comment on knowledgeably and perhaps be a bit of help to someone else since I've been learning all sorts of things reading blog after blog after blog.  In fact, I was beginning to get a bit bogged (not blogged) down when I ran across a posting asking why many times there is a such great disparity in the suggested prices given by Realtors who visit open houses.  Now, … (4 comments)

Can You Keep A Secret? - 02/12/09 03:49 PM
It's what each of us who works in the luxury and resort real estate market hopes will happen...one day the phone will ring and there will be someone whose name is recognized in most households  asking about a listing.
First thought," Okay, which one of my friends is pulling my leg?"
Second thought, " Oh my gosh, is this really _________?"
Third thought, " Try not to sound 'star struck'."
After all those thoughts fly around for a bit, we come to discover that many of these folks aren't so different from us.  They want a place where they can have … (1 comments)
