WHY WE SHOULDN't BE INCLUSIVE AND NOT EXCLUSIVE WHEN IT COMES TO JUDGING SPELLING AND GRAMMAR! - 03/31/09 02:03 PM
An earlier blog got a lot of folks interested and they responded in droves to the question, 'Why can't we be inclusive instead of exclusive when it comes to judging spelling and grammar?"  The comments range widely, but it seems there are more folks who feel the same way I do than there are those who think just any old quickly dashed off written word is worthwhile - no bothering with spell check, correct punctuation or at least a stab at it or any attempt at using correct grammar.
I vote for encouraging everyone to write, BUT they should at least TRY … (8 comments)

The Trout Streams Are Full of Water and Fish!! - 03/30/09 12:09 PM
Trout fishing in the streams and rivers of Northeast Georgia is an experience everyone should have.  There is nothing like standing in a cold mountain stream and taking time to enjoy the sound of the cascading water as it tumbles through boulders, around fallen trees and around sharp bends on its way into one of our sparkling mountain lakes.
While purists fly fish, I am happy using my old reliable rod and reel.  Pockets full of meal worms, wax worms or giant red wigglers (and yes, sometimes I stoop to using a kernel of corn) I venture forth well armed in … (0 comments)

If you have ever wanted a lake house...now's the time!!! - 03/18/09 10:14 AM
While the mountain lakes of Rabun County, Georgia have long been one of the most desirable second home/vacation spots in the southeast, there has never been more opportunity to find just what you want.
The prices are still holding and that is good for the investment value, but there have never been so many properties to choose from.  A normal inventory would be around 30 properties.  That is less than 3% of the total lake properties on all three lakes - Burton, Seed and Rabun.
As of this date, there are 100 lakefront properties available and showing in the Rabun County Multiple Listing … (0 comments)

Have You Ever Seen A 'Sarvis' Tree? - 03/02/09 12:05 PM
Spring Comes To The Mountains of NE Georgia
My first spring spent in Rabun County was heralded with the blooming of one tree in particular that I'd never seen before.  Covered in small white blossoms, the trees were obviously native because they were sprinkled all over the faces of the mountains.  Since no other trees yet had any leaves and nothing else was yet blooming, I began to ask my newly made acquaintances about the tree. The first lady I asked told me it was a wild plum.  Now, I've seen wild plums before and know that they tend to be more … (5 comments)

Help the President's Advisors Understand Their Housing Facts Are WRONG!!!! - 03/02/09 10:06 AM

I heard our President say, in his weekly radio broadcast on Saturday, that the housing market is in a spiral and "about ¼ of a million people in construction have lost their jobs".  I have also heard that repeated throughout the day as the news media has remarked on it.  (Incidentally, not one of them challenged his figures.)
It is no wonder the President and his staff are not as concerned about housing as they need to be, if the above statement is truly what they believe.
In 2004, 2005 and 2006 Americans were building over 2 million homes a … (4 comments)

Facebook and Active Rain. It's 'The Bomb'!!!! - 03/02/09 08:45 AM
2009 is the year of Internet networking.
Until recently I had no real presence on Active Rain and must admit, I thought FaceBook was only for teenagers.
Wow!  Was I wrong!!!!!!!
During the past three weeks, I have made contact with real estate professionals all over the world through Active Rain.
In only one week on FaceBook, I have been able to connect with 130 'friends'.  Some are from childhood, some from college.  Most are professionals who are valuable networking sources.
It seems to be more difficult for us babyboomers to put ourselves 'out there' on the Internet.  One of my … (62 comments)
