Saturday, Dec. 31: Hit the Ground Running
 
End 2011 on a high (and fast) note, with the 6th Annual Bull Run 5k. The course features a combination of pavement, gravel and hardpack, and offers lots of great spectating options for family and friends. Water and food will be provided for racers and a gift drawing will take place at the end. 3 p.m. Bull Run Regional Park. For information call 703-631-0550.

Celebrate the holidays with lots of laughs as the Alden Studio Rep performs "The Most Amazing Christmas Play Series in the Entire History of the World." Performances will include a brass quintet, solo pianists, singer-songwriters and rock bands performing contemporary, classical, jazz funk, blues and rock music. One of the most respected artists in the new school of bluegrass, Sierra Hull has received five International Bluegrass Music Association nominations and is the first bluegrass musician to receive Berklee School of Music’s prestigious Presidential Scholarship. On "Daybreak," her sophomore effort (her debut "Secrets" was recorded at age 15) the Associated Press describes her sound as combining "the angelic voice of Alison Krauss with the fiery mandolin picking of Rhonda Vincent.” Don't miss this up-and-coming bluegrass sensation. 8 p.m. Reston Community Center's CentreStage.  $30/person ($15/residents).  For information call 703-476-4500.
